      @kcdzim:

      @reloader-1:

      One problem with making a mold “too detailed” is it starts looking almost cartoonish - plastic is a hard material to work with.

      Agreed.  The scale required and the process of molding means that with more detail you’ll see more mold errors.  I can’t imagine what could be added to the planes at that scale.  Rivets and panels would look ridiculous.  Even outlines for flaps and landing gear would probably look off.  The only things I could see that could MAYBE be reasonably added would be the propellor hub and engine cowling.  Even then, it would be hard to pull off at this scale.

      And I still say, we already have one naval dive bomber and at this scale all japanese dive/torpedo bombers look very similar (Val just has external gear) so I’d rather have a ground attack plane (like the Ki-45 “Nick”) rather than a torpedo bomber (Kate’s not a dive bomber).

      I don’t expect rivets and panels. I just want a zero with a straight tail and complete wings without mold errors like chunks missing. Thats all.

      Of the battle series, GC is my favorite because it still allows purchases as part of the strategy, keeping it open to your style. I’ve always loved historical simulations where the order of battle is used like BotB and D-Day, but I like the fact that GC allows for nearly any strategy you desire.

      Sounds like Japan waited to attack… true? So far this has proven to be more difficult for them than a J1 attack.

    • RE: 6 IPC Tanks and other unit costs

      I will offer up a rationale for the tac/tank combo. Think about Panzers and Stukas for a moment. The Panzers are used to pin down the enemy in known locations. Then Stukas are sent in to finish off enemy defensive positions before the Panzers blitz the line. If it weren’t for the Panzers pinning the enemy units, they would be harder for the Stukas to hit.

      I may be talking out my a$$ though…

      @Upside-down_Turtle:

      The Nakajima B5N2 ought to be the dive bomber

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakajima_B5N

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b46R07QHWi4&feature=related

      It was the most advanced and prolific.

      As for the Zero, the ones WOTC are pretty poor.  I’d like to see a super detailed Zero.  Same goes for the Yamato, though maybe a more common BB would be better.  The WOTC Yamatos already look like Super Star Destroyers.

      I second this. Not sure what other fighter would be a good choice besides the zero but, I would love a nice looking zero if no other suitable choice could be made.

      Yep, the Osprey brand books have great illustrations for all periods of infantry. They don’t cover machines though, so I’ve been going off of AllWork’s stuff with my own little changes.

      @WILD:

      Wasn’t there something called scorched earth a while back. Might have been an option or somebodies official house rule. Can’t remember. It would have been easy to implement something like that in AA50 with the new damage markers. Just roll a dice as you lose the IC.

      This was a Russian NA from Revised I think.

    • RE: Seperation for Naval and Land Air forces.

      @spectre_04:

      “Feel Free to move this thread to the house rules”

      What do you guys think about separating land air forces from naval air forces?
      For example, all the aircraft that start out on carriers (TAC bombers and Fighters) are Naval air units which can operate on carriers.  The Naval units can also operate on land, but the Land units cannot operate on carriers reflecting the special training required for fleet air operations.  I don’t see any reason to make them cost any different, although if one did I suppose the naval variety ought to be pricier since it is more versatile.
      This might help keep Japan from getting such an advantage in air power since they would no longer be able to throw down carrier after carrier for defense in later turns, but would now need to build the naval air forces required.
      Just a thought.

      I sort of planned to do this when painting my pieces. Although, for fairness, I usually let either side exchange one for the other for free. I just don’t like seeing P-38s on carriers.  :mrgreen:

    • Adding Tac Bombers from AAP40!

      This is actually quite simple and easy. They cost 4. Air attack 1, Sea attack 2, Land attack 1. This simulates torpedo bombers. Range is 2. During setup, the carriers that start with 2 fighters should have one fighter exchanged for a tac bomber. After trying it out yesterday, it worked great!

      Actually allworkandnoclay, I have question for you.

      Any particular books you can recommend, you know, for references and illustrations regarding unit camos/colors, etc?

      Good question! You beat me to it.

      @Funcioneta:

      Not a good idea. In Eastern Front, Germans put italian forces between Hungarians and Romanians to prevent they started fight themselves instead the soviets, go figure. Bulgarian didn’t entered in war iwth soviets until soviets invaded them, finnish were mostly fighting by themselves against the soviets, etc. No coherent pattern, you know

      Then make a rule that says these “support powers” can’t leave their country.

      For simplicity sake, I like IL’s idea of

      Axis Neutrals = Light Grey
      Allies Neutrals = Light Brown

      For the “Light Brown”, I’d like to see the off-white from AADD used, unless we plan to use this for the Canadians…

    • RE: Tricked out my AA50th - pics in a bucket

      @trackmagic:

      Did you get the decals from the same place that Viracocha got his? What are the part numbers you ordered?

      I started to paint my pieces. They looked really good when I sprayed them, but the details are hard. I bought a really fine high-quality brush from the hobby store and I still have trouble making thin-consistent lines. I am thinking of starting over and trying to use a toothpick as a paintbrush.

      After re-reading this, I have some advise that may help. With the roundels, for example, British, Paint a yellow circle. Then put a blue ring inside, then a white ring, then a red dot. That way, your rings don’t have to be perfect.

      I didn’t use any decals. I ended up painting the roundels myself.

      Just keeping watching this thread. As soon as the factory finishes the test sculpts of the remaining Italian pieces, I’m willing to bet that FMG will begin the pre-order process for the Italian set. Other sets to follow after that, but so far, no Canadians planned.

      Well thanks to AllWork’s beautiful stuff, I decided to stop staring, drooling, and wanting; and decided to do something about it. So, I’ve started my own project. Not as ambitious as his, I’m painting my Guadalcanal set. Starting with Japanese bombers and transports, here’s the first of it. Just wanted to say thanks to AllWork for doing all the historical research. I’m using his stuff as a guide.

      Also included is my set of Home Factories inspired by Virococchas’s work. Enjoy all-

      @Viracocha:

      Much obliged Variable. What do you think of the abstract HQ’s?

      I like them alot! I’m actually trying to duplicate them myself.

      Get those pics for IL so we all have a painting guide to go by.

      IL, could you throw in AllWork’s pics as well. A lot of people like the Japanese stuff he just did.

      Thanks!

      Would like to see your finished command centers! When I was younger I tried doing an edition with the command centers in their own language - it was interesting.  Somebody with more graphic savviness than me should be able to produce really cool stuff.  Still haven’t had a chance to send take & send those portrait pics. This set is actually my '42 board (the ‘learner’), though photographed on AA50th (which will hopefully be populated by FMG minis - as it deserves!).  The minis pics I posted have actually been done for quite some time, but I just never bothered with taking photos… so I’ll have to go back and see what decals were for what…

      Finally finished up this project, so I thought I’d share. Enjoy-
