RE: Accurate Miniature Equivalents for Custom Painting your 1940 E&P
ya, did you use an air brush or hand brush?
Hand brushes - 1/0 and 3/0 for the base coats, 10/0 and 18/0 for the detail work. Short handles, short to medium bristle length.
Good stuff Variable! By the way, make sure you switch your paint jobs on the Guadalcanal Japanese and US cruisers… The molds were switched and the plastic colors are wrong. Compare them to other sets and you’ll see what I mean.
Thanks, I did know about this. The bone head maneuver I made though was I got the new pieces from WOTC ,but forgot I had the old ones too until after I painted the Japanese. So I painted the orange US cruisers, but also painted the orange Japanese cruisers instead of the green ones. Dang it.

RE: Accurate Miniature Equivalents for Custom Painting your 1940 E&P
how do you paint it? do you ues enamal, acrilic? water or oil based? do you paint it all at once or do you do half than the other half? :? i want to re paint my old pieces. i will post some of my old panted pieces from when i was 9, tomarow :wink:
Let’s see if I can answer a few of your questions:
I use water-based acrylics. Mostly Ceramcoat brand. I hold the pieces by hand so, yes, basically paint half the base coat, then the the other half. Washes are done all at once since uniformity is key. Once that’s dry, I go back and paint the details. After everything is done, I coat them with a satin finishing spray by Krylon. I like the semi-gloss look.
Anything else I can help with?

Fantastic! Really like your touches to the aircraft carriers! Huh - wouldn’t have thought I’d like that shade of blue on the cats… but I actually like 'em a lot.
I tried the darker Navy blue first, but it was overpowering. I used it for the base of the roundels instead. If I ever get some Corsairs though, the dark blue will look great on them.
Got the number decals from your guy at I-94 Enterprises.

By the way, next up is the US Navy. Those will take a while, as there are 48 total ships.
In the meantime, you guys can duke out what nation you want to see next: UK, Germany, or Russia.
Can you post pics of each type as you go? I put some up of my carriers tomorrow. Can you do a different ship?

@Brain:
Paint the minis, poof problem vanishes and the game is enhanced! :wink:
Yes I agree. How hard is it to paint your pieces?
I’d have to say that I have been giving this subject quite a bit of thought (more than I should, but I am obsessive). I would really love to have the German set black because I use the newer WOTC black pieces. BUT, if we have to choose between black or grey (and can’t have both), I’m changing my mind to GREY. Here’s why: I’ve painted some other pieces to make special house rule pieces to match the WOTC set. I can tell you, trying to match the mould colors is impossible, except for BLACK. It’s easy to match the black color mould and a satin finishing spray makes it still look “plastic”. So, grey is a decision I can live with on this after all.
1 vote changed from Black to Grey.

@Brain:
I am trying to remember how happy everyone was when FMG first announced that they were going to make new pieces. I am also trying to figure out how we came to this point. :?
I don’t think anyone’s really unhappy; we all appreciate all the hard work that FMG has put into this project. What this is, is a debate over opinion. As such, there really is no true “right” or “wrong” answer. But FMG has given us, the customers, the rarest of opportunities. They are providing us with the ability to shape future products by direct involvement.
Because this is based on opinion, everyone will naturally think they have better reasons than anyone else, myself included, which is OK. We are all putting our $.02 in, falling almost exactly 50-50 on this issue. In the end though, what we all really want and can hopefully agree on, is for FMG to listen to all the arguments, black or grey, and decide what is best for all. I think we will all end up with our set of FMG Germans in the end, no matter what, because we trust FMG to provide us the best possible product they can after listening to our community. They have no equal right now and we all know that.
That said, please keep the debate going and involve new people. A fresh perspective and new ideas should always be welcome!

i dont think im liked verry much all my posts disapear. can any one help me(ie. not remove my posts because u dont like me!).it is really con fusing me! wahhhhhhhhh!
Work on taking your time to make your point clear.
But you really need to take the time to fix your spelling, grammar, and capitalization. No one will take you seriously when your posts look like a three year old wrote them. :|
As for the removal of posts, you must have brushed up against the powers that be. :roll:
… or you had nothing to add to the thread. Staying on topic and helping others is what we’re here for, not seeing how many posts per day we can achieve.

RE: IL AAG40 map?
@WILD:
@Imperious:
That is already done. Won’t release till a few weeks after the game comes out.
That’s kinda lame, we won’t need it then :?
Trust me, you will! ILs maps are not only BEAUTIFUL, but scalable. Most of us want bigger maps no matter how big they are OOB. I know I do! Maybe one day I can cover the whole floor of the game room…
Like life-sized chess? Are you planning on having LARP-style life-sized Axis and Allies game days? :-P
If only I could… :wink:

RE: Mech Infantry-Halftracks
I agree that we will see the true potential for them in Europe. Think about how far it will be from Berlin to Moscow. Get my drift? If the Germans are to stay on the offensive, they will need troops to the front FAST! Like Robbie was saying, front line fodder to help out tanks and tacs will be key to moving into Russia, I think.

RE: Another new product with plastic AA style miniatures!!!
This would make for an awesome advanced BotB game then!

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread
Ok Ok! The people have spoken!
You all know this is a community project from the start. Its failure or success will be determined by the community so this color debate will also be decided the same way.
Please take part in the poll. There needs to be a CLEAR victory for one side or the other… so…
If the poll reaches 100+ I will take it seriously. If BLACK wins more than 51% of the vote, we will do BLACK.
If the poll goes down and there is not enough voters to make a call… it stays GREY.
Sound fair?
Poll? Man, this is what I get for not coming on the forum every day……
No, no poll! You wanna hear from the people?..Well, this people says, “FMG, you are right, they are wrong. If Germany is made black, you will be abandoning this customer in particular. My dice are Gray, I like Gray, Gray makes sense, Gray is better. Black is stupid. What’s the point of making a 1000+ piece WWII set if it doesn’t even match the dice? Do you really want to deal with angry customers who want refunds? Gray sells very well for the dice, it will sell well for the units set.”
Besides, who made Germany black anyway?
WOTC:
The same company that made Russia Maroon! (of all things)
The same company that can’t even spell “Afghanistan” on their $100 game board, on top of making it shaped like Texas.
The same company that can’t even print Pokemon Cards correctly:
http://reviews.ebay.com/What-Pokemon-cards-are-errors_W0QQugidZ10000000001184987
Field Marshal Games, you are not Wizards of the Coast.
A poll? Yeah, because we all know democracy is how to keep stupid ideas from becoming reality.
We have a while before the German pieces go into production. Take your time to think about it. Listen to your gut. Not all of your customers visit this forum. And besides, you have been the most responsive and open company I have ever seen. You really do care about what the customers want; it shows in the pages of this forum, and it shows in your bottom line. It shows in the fact you are consistently short of combat dice, even though such a shortage could be easily remedied by raising the price and increasing your profit.
Your combat dice are the Nintendo Wii of board gaming. Don’t abandon that tradition. You won’t loose a singe penny by making them Gray, but you just might by making them Black. Let the vocal minority wine about black all they want. They can cling to their WOTC unit set with their black Germans with crooked fighters.
I want my Russians Red, and my Germans Gray. The colors look beautiful together. I’m looking at the two dice right now. Those were the colors I saw when I played Axis and Allies for the first time on the Revised board. I want that on my 1940 Europe board. I think a poem sums it up nicely:
Don’t be W-O-T-C, be F-M-G
Don’t be an X-Box 360, be a Nintendo WiiVery persuasive argument! Got me to think twice…

RE: Table Tactics releasing new line in June
@Imperious:
I received a sample of the new pieces…
These are not in AA scale and are closer to Jeff’s The War Game: World War Two.
I estimate them to be about 85% larger than AA pieces ( tanks)
Also, the sprue they came on has really thick connecting supports and will prove very hard to remove the pieces.
Additionally they all have some round ‘hole’ on the side and the detail is not better than AA pieces.
FMG will be the only one who will get it right it seems. These new Table Tactics pieces seem like they are catered more for M44 or another game/market.
Man, that’s really a bummer… Why would he make them different from the old stuff? I don’t get it. His sprues were always a bit tricky anyway. Darn, I was really looking forward to adding this to OOB and FMG. :cry:

RE: How to balance a round 1 Japanese Declaration of War
How about move the Japanese transport from SZ33 to SZ6. Makes Japan choose targets on a J1 attack, or set up for a J2 attack. Is that more of what you had in mind?
Has anyone considered trying this? I don’t have any opponents available to test it right now…

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread
Okay, so lets put the black vs. grey to bed.
Next question will be, what is the color of the ANZACs? We saw the pic of the mock up ANZAC die. Is that the color? It will be very close to OOB, but also close to Germany now.
I know most of us can tell the difference between British and German units, but close colors make it difficult to survey the board. Remember when the Italians were first released? There were a bunch of complaints that it was too close to the color of Russians. We all wanted Italy in Light grey.
Anyway, the darker the grey the better for me. Or will it be like the color of the test moulds?
