    • An idea for changing G40 scramble rules

      Has anyone tried incorporating the CAP rules from P41? This would allow the Brits to scramble over the Channel but force them to choose a SZ or spread their air force thin. It would allow Japan and the US to defend island air bases in the same manner but would require a bit more forethought.

      Any thoughts?

      That would be quite helpful now that there are so many of us coming up with great ideas for new rules.

      +1 vote from me.

      If you used a “General” piece for each nation, a player could choose one TT to place him in each turn to “take command” of all friendly forces in that TT. Just a thought, I haven’t tried it out yet.

      Your idea about buying armies using a points system reminds me a bit of the old Citadel game “Space Marine”. Basically, each unit had a card that was worth X points. Each side would spend the points allowed by the scenario and then battle it out. It could work for WW2 as long as you’re not trying to refight historical battles. It would end up being something similar to A&A GC where the premise is historical but the order of battle is completely fictional. I like it as it would allow us to be a “battlefield commander” without having to rehash battles that have already been fought.

      @DrLarsen:

      I figure it would work like this: Saturday play a game then take out the trash.  Play a game then cut the grass.  Play a game then take the wife out to dinner.  Play a game and then play with the wife.

      I guess playing a game WITH the wife is out of the question?  :-D

      Not at my house! A&A, Battle Cry, Agricola… She’s down for it all. Don’t be TOO jealous guys…

      Okay Jack, you’ve got my attention. So let me be the first to ask… Hints? Details to share?

      I was just saying that as far as which roundel designs to use (which flags), the ones you already use would be great. But better quality is always appreciated!

      The stuff you’ve been putting on ebay looks pretty good as far as designs. By the way, thanks for the rockets. Just got them yesterday.

      Thanks for doing this! This is a great resource. I’m still working on my command center, but I’ve discovered the rooms in old houses are a bit small for a G40 table… Still working on it.

      Great work to everyone out there who’s command centers make the rest of us very jealous!

      I like it… It reminds me a bit of BotB rules. But you’re right, a new strategy entirely would need to be developed as well as possibly tweeking the initial setup.

      Jack,

      A few kind words from a fan to help those “black and blue marks”…

      We all have faith in your ability and ambition to deliver the things we want. I know IL and myself, as well as many others have appreciated your support of a WWI setup. Then you were the first and only one to give us “more pieces!” Additionally, you gave us modern A&A and Risk variants that are currently spawning a new game on my table…

      In short, you have always given us what we want. We just want to make sure you understand what we want. That way, we get what we want and you get the thanks (read CASH) for it. That way you can spend more on getting us more things we want.

      I know some of the comments here seem harsh or nit-picky. But I think in the end it will pay off. We’re something like 130 pages into the FMG post and nobody’s even held one in there hand yet.

      Keep doing what your doing and listen to those of us that play the games. It’s worked for Larry, it will work for you.

      P.S. - Can you make a few more copies of Cromwell? I never got one…

      I think the color we’re looking at here is the OOB Russian color from the original A&A Europe. It was decidedly more maroon that the current color. The problem there is we wouldn’t have any mech inf, cruisers, or tac bombers from OOB to match that color, but all other countries would.

      Can anyone out there use this to program the macros for use on a Mac? I simply don’t know how to do this. The file will display for me, it’s just not able to “run visual basic macros”. Thank you in advance.

      @skinny1:

      …do not have room to leave a game set up so I will have to resort to writing down what each nation has for pieces on the board and where they are so I can pick it up at a later date.

      Try using a digital camera for this. Much faster and “a picture is worth a thousand words”. I have done this in the past and it worked great.

      With the scope of IL’s game including many of the British territories in Africa and the Middle East, and the variety of units involved, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained until tanks are brought it to wreak havoc (and break down). Naval battles are epic and Zeppelins with bombs are killer.

      Jack, almost forgot, we need cavalry too. What would the French and Russians do without them?

      @Imperious:

      I want a playable WW1 Axis Allies game in time for the 2014 anniversary date.

      jack, if you can do this i already got the game to support it.

      When your ready to make some really nice WW1 units, let us know.

      I wish you went in this direction in the first place. You wont be competing with anybody.

      Two things to add to this Jack.

      First, I too would love a more expanded line of your WWI line to include much of the above (mostly  needed is  the Zeppelins, balloons, bi-planes, and bombers). You could end up with a lot more of my money if you do this…

      Second, I have built IL’s game for myself and love it. It’s very complete and fun. I did end up doing a bit of a re-write to simplify some things to bring it a bit more inline with A&A. However, many people could enjoy either version with these additional pieces making it affordable to build ( I spent a lot on minis from you and elsewhere).

    • RE: Where to get custom box foam/wood dividers?

      Hey guys. I’m currently working on a storage solution for G40 as well. My prototype holds all the pieces, rules, charts, and maps plus enough room to hold all the original pieces boxes if you like. Without those, there would be enough room for extra goodies that we all like to add to our games. It basically involves some small nuts/bolts boxes and a chest from Ikea. Total cost is around $120 since the little boxes are high quality with customizable dividers. This is more of a “Game Room” solution than a “travel” solution. It’s a bit heavy and bulky. If I can find some less expensive ones, cost could be significantly reduced. I;ll see if I can get some pics up soon. I will post in Variants section when I take them.

      @DrLarsen:

      TT Suggestions:

      1. For your first complete-compatible AA40-assessories set, I suggest the French.  FMG sounds as though he’s going to take his sweet time getting to them, and yet with the WotC chimps absurdly giving the French Soviet vehicles, I sense an opportunity here. AGREED!

      2. You previously mentioned that coloring is one of the expensive issues you struggle with, which makes me think: Now that WotC has a decent French infantryman that works equally well for WW1 Frenchies, maybe doing a run of your old “Central Powers” kit in that same color would sell.  Fantastic Idea! As a big fan of that kit, I would replace my spray painted ones with these any day. Combined with “A&A New Colors” you could make a new 4 color set.

      3. Or maybe even better, you could simultaneously do a new-from-the-ground-up WW1 set in the same color; possibly you could recycle some sculpts for this set (i.e., “Central Powers” tanks, mg’s & artillery + “AA40 Accessories” Frenchie infantry.)  Or even better, do some cool WW1 sculpts from scratch.  Nice WW1 BB’s would be pretty easy to do, for instance.  (Check out the excellent, but too big, examples from Panzerschiffe, for instance.) Probably too much to take on right now.
