      Thank you for all the great compliments folks! I chose this set for its relatively small number of pieces and it represents one of the battles that most interested me in the pacific campaign.

      wow, great stuff! What did you use for the American insignia on the carriers and the stars 'n bars on the planes? are they decals or painted… and if painted, how did you do that with such great detail?!

      I did use decals for the carrier numbers as that is not my strong point. But the insignias are all hand painted with a 5/0 and 10/0 brush. I just go over them a few times to perfect the details.

      It seems to me from Variable’s second post that he didn’t question or misunderstand the meaning of the rule as written, but was rather questioning whether or not the wording reflected the intent of the rule.  It does indeed.

      I just don’t see any other way you could possibly interpret rule #9, and was sticking up for Larry/Krieg because they’re often criticized (by me) for ambiguous rules.  However, this one is not ambiguous.

      Yes, Larry and I took an (unfortunate) attitude early in the Alpha process that the wording of the test rules modifications didn’t need to be as polished as it would be in the final product.  However, that’s changed since you pointed out the error of our ways!  We’re now trying harder to avoid ambiguities.   :-)

      Krieg has understood me perfectly. All I was double checking was the intent of the rules in the case where Japan has not made any threatening moves against the US or UK. I got my answer and prefer we just stick to the facts.

      As for the other stuff between Emperor Mollari and Gamerman01 et al: I regret ever posing the question here. Krieg gave me a simple answer on Larry’s site which is all I wanted. Mods, please feel free to remove any material that does not contribute to resolving FAQs…

      First, thanks for the clarification. I presumed this was the case, but wanted to make sure since Russia has its special situation and this is slightly different rules from OOB.

      Second, I believe the only stupid question is the one not asked. If I’m going to do my part in the play testing, I should be using the rules correctly, right? That is the reason for my question…

      Alpha +.2 Rules Question:

      US is neutral. Successful Sealion (barely) on G2. New rules say US may declare war on any Axis powers on their turn. Japan has not attacked US or UK. Japan still only at war with China. Can/should the US be able to declare war on Japan? I would think not but the rules seem to indicate yes. Larry or Krieg, can I get a ruling?

      I second this suggestion. It’s tough for me to find room for the play aids with the map being the same size as my table. The more compact the better, but not sacrificing usability. Stacking the control markers for similar objectives sounds great.

      I thought of one seemingly important question I haven’t seen asked during this play test process… No one is using the techs, right? I say that because with the right tech, any country could end up with a game breaker. To put it simply, in order for us to achieve this “balance” that we are looking for, all play testers should NOT be using techs. Just wanted to make sure that we minimize the outside “luck” variables in this process.

      I guess what I meant by a lessened can opener is it used to be 1-2 Germany-Italy, with the heavy hit first. Now the heavy hit is second, which, depending on your strategy, could be better I guess depending on how you use it.

      Agreed. Gives much more meaning to North Africa and the Med. And it gives Russia and UK Far East a bit more to worry about. Something from the original Europe game that’s been missing!

      This new turn order simply reverses the roles of Germany and Italy in the “Can Opener”. With France out most of the game, you now have an immediate Italy-Germany 1-2 punch. It reduces the effects of the can opener which is compensated by doubling the number of German troops starting in Germany and giving the Italian navy a better chance of surviving with setup changes in the Med. I like it.

      It also speeds game play by having Italy and Germany go together, as well as all the Pacific Allies go together after Japan. Movement decisions, purchase decisions, and coordinated attacks will be easier and less time consuming now. Good job Larry!

      I had no trouble, but have the newest version of Excel 2008 for Mac (12.2.8) if this helps.

      I noticed the rules are rather incomplete. Is the combat system based on D12? Or D10? Or…?

      Edit: Went back through posts… figured it out (D12). Still would like to see the rest of your rule ideas!

      …which is what? I’m trying to determine what is going to be in each set of Italians. I can’t find where they confirmed the final list of items and quantities. There was talk of other pieces that we haven’t seen pics of yet.
