Positioning. UK/ANZAC cannot get there island NOs on the first turn. Japan cannot even hit any of the money islands turn 1, so why would she? Also, the US fleet in SZ 35 has no where to really go, other than maybe guam and land airplanes there, where it would be safe, it can be destroyed later. Same with the inf there. And finally, japan only starts with 3 transports, no where near enough to start grabbing the money islands and get units into the south pacific. There are absolutely, in my opinion, no targets that you can hit J1 that you would be unable to hit J2 that would be worth starting the war so early. What is the UK BB/2 transports gonna do on UK1, take samutra and Java? If they do you smash them J2 anyway. All of this in my own opinion of course.

Mess up in exchange rate math with the MSRP would be my guess. Still odd that it is more expensive than aa50 though, very odd indeed.

True, although there are a ton of planes all over. I think defending transports is gonna be a huge deal in this game, as is dancing around everyones airforce with your boats.

RE: Dutch East Indiesposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I hope so, I just hope that the next rulebook for Europe is as good as the one for aa42, this is annoying. ESP as face to face I have a hard time sometimes telling players just because the rulebook doesn’t say it, this is the way it is dangit!

RE: Dutch East Indiesposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
You could be right IL, i’m just going with a past case example of a similar situation in the rules, like when a capital is taken and that nations territory is liberated. Anyway, how would you decide, UK gets celebes and AN gets new guinea would be common sense, but man that would be a pain in the butt rule and unnecessarily complicated.

RE: G U A R D - possible in '42 scenario?posted in 1942 Scenario
Why do people use a 4x4 for a polar express. a 2x2x2 can get 8 units a turn into alaska with transports going with 3 steps.
Step 1: Move from SZ 62 to 64 and unload
Step 2: Move from SZ 64 to 62 and shuck to Bury
4 transports do this, 2 each step per turn
Step 3: Move from 64 to 63, load, drop in 64.Its odd how you have to stagger it, but with a bit of troop buildup and extra transport or two to get it started, or a few units in bury to start, will prime it very easily. Start with 4 transports in SZ 62, make sure you have 4 units in bury first, send all 4 to alaska for drop. Following turn 2 shuck from bury, 2 go back to 62, and 2 new ones from 62 go to alaska.

no idea but I don’t think 2 powers are allowed inside the same trannie, no clue though

absolutely you can do this, and your planes and sub will die. it is kinda cheezy though.

RE: Advantages Incurred from the 1940 Start Dateposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
For US i would assume it would have to do with convoy routes from the lend lease being disrupted or a set turn. As far as soviets I think them and the germans are allowed to attack whenever, it just wouldn’t be a good idea for the first few turns. Larry said something about that somewhere.

RE: Dutch East Indiesposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Original owner would be dutch, since they do not matter it would go to whomever takes it logically. Kind of like how if someone liberates soviet territories after moscow falls in aa50, the liberator takes possession. UK/AN would not get the income, they have no ownership, the US would get it.

RE: Rules Q&Aposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
@Krupp:
A few quick questions im confused about.
1. Can a Minor IC be built on any land territory regardless of IPC value?Only a major may be built on a territory with a IPC value of 3 correct?
2.Without declaring war can i as japan on J1 move a fleet to SZ35 which contains American surface ships?I dont want to attack,i just want them there for j2.
EDIT: 3- WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM damage a minor and major IC can take each?
Thank you.
- Value must be atleast 2 IPCs to build a minor
- Yes
- Double production value, so 6 and 20.

With 12 IPC bombers in germany that can strike anywhere, i’d say its even.

J1 Openingsposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I was wondering, now that most have gotten a chance to look at the board, and a few lucky people have been able to play a game, what are your ideas for J1. Not a unit by unit breakdown (too many), but an overall concept. This is what I wish to try.
Obviously hit china hard, taking Yunnan and advancing as far as possible. I would move the SZ 33 fleet to SZ 45 grabbing 2 inf off of the islands. I would send the SZ 6 fleet down to SZ 36 and hit FIC with the 2 loaded transports. I’d leave the 2 Inf in Siam personally. Then i’d make sure to land as many planes as possible on Hainan, all the strat bombers and i’d try for 2-4 regular fighters. I’d purchase 3 transports and save the rest.
With that, I would be able to threaten any move from UK/ANZAC to get there NO islands, and possibly sink there transports. On J2 I would declare war, start grabbing the Indies and use the 3 purchased transports to hit Philipeans and Kwangtung. With luck I would also be able to sink the UK and/or the ANZAC transports/fleets.
Any thoughts?

RE: Advantages Incurred from the 1940 Start Dateposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I think it would be pretty cool if the US enters the war automatically on turn 3 like in pacific, or when lend lease convoys are disrupted (which should grant like nearly 10 IPCs a turn to russia and/or UK). And in the global game, US enters the war when either axis does something wrong, would be cool for Japan to screw Germany on that one in the board game
And I don’t think Russia should be stronger than Germany, but closer to the aa42 power level differance (esp if Italy was separate) instead of the aa50 power difference (where Germany makes nearly double what Russia does AND has Italy to help). Like say germany makes 40, russia makes 32. Just let Italy be able to hold her own against the UK, like UK makes 30 Italy makes 20.

Who knows, maybe they’ll release a ‘bag o units’ for sale, or maybe FMG will be at that point soon.

RE: Dutch East Indiesposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I believe so, but only if they liberate it from Japan.

RE: Eurasia STRAT - Alliesposted in 1941 Scenario
If I saw that, as G I would purchase all armor for 2-3 turns then dance in moscow on G4, 5 at the latest, right around when japan took India.
Best way for Russia to help hold India is to build a bomber in Cauc and sink the Jap trannie at the Indies then land in India, along with 2ish armor in Cauc to run to india if needed.

RE: The Mid-Game KGF Dilemnaposted in 1941 Scenario
This is what I find works well, now depending on optional rules, etc, this can change. There are a few keys to this.
-
never, ever ever, all G to take there 3rd NO. Starting on R1 stack Kar with everything that can reach and on UK1 land 2 fighters. To follow this, on UK1 you should purchase atleast 2 transports, at times 3, along with a carrier and/or a DD if needed. Begining on UK2 start the shuck into Kar. This will allow you to hold Kar the entire game without using too many of R’s resources.
-
never, ever ever, allow Persia to fall to japan. Starting with the UK stack from TJ/India, added to with Russian Inf on R2, followed up with US airpower (fighers and a bomber or 2 if possible, make Japan protect her transports and her factories).
-
US vs Italy. Shuck into africa, keep inf in morocco and send armor towards Persia. If not playing with interceptors (which I despise) SBR the daylights out of G. Be sure to start the shuck in LA.
The biggest things though are to hold Persia and Karelia. Without Kar G’s income never gets high enough and it is much easier to beat her down. Defending a territory with 3 nations is easier than attacking it with 3 nations. This is how you hold Persia. Typically it will only cost you 2 russian inf on R2, on R3 usually nothing (if you feel like it UK can retake India on UK2 just to irritate Japan, it helps if you send your bomber to moscow if it lives on UK1), and on further turns can take anywhere from 0-3 Inf, and/or a US fighter or two (using algeria as a halfway point). In most games a 40ish IPC russia can hold back a 70ish IPC japan if persia is held. And G will be making little to no money with 5-6 bombers SBRing her every turn without the NOs.

RE: Question about Political Situationposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
yes, the UK/ANZAC should not attack japan unless there is a really good reason to do so.
