      Axis and Allies Pacific is one of the best games in the series of Axis and Allies.  It shows how the Allies raced against time to stop the Japanese from expanding their empire in the south Pacific and Asia.  Japan has the advantage even with the adjusted set-up.  Here are some house rules that have helped me balance the game.

      1. Victory conditions remain the same.

      If you are Japan, you win in one of two ways:

      Occupy one Allied capital and hold it until the start of your next turn (must control Japan). Accumulate 22 victory points.

      If you are the Allies, you win in one of two ways:

      Occupy Japan and hold it until the start of your next turn (must control home country). Prevent Japan from collecting any victory points on its turn.

      2. Place 4 Infantry in India before the game begins.

      Provides some help with the India Crush by Japan.

      3. Japan receives one victory point at the end of the first round.

      Same as Japan needing at least 24 victory points.

      4. Japan may not attack seazone 5 in round 1.

      Japan will lose all 3 carriers in a counterattack and will not be able to recover and win.

      5. Submarines must conduct one round of combat before submerging.

      This is how Larry Harris played the game after its release because substalling was an oversight in the rulebook.

      I think you could just announce that it’s a recon force and which ships would be passing through if it succeeds… maybe put the recon force into the territory for combat and the rest of the fleet could be put on the line between the territories until combat is resolved.  If the recon force takes out the blockers in the first round of combat, the ships on the line could then pass through the territory or use their shore bombardment in the territory: but the recon force could not pass through with them and could not bombard with them (they would be out of position, expended munitions, etc.).  If the recon force fails to take out the blockers, then the remaining ships may join the combat or they could stay in the previous zone and either way can’t pass through or bombard the shore.  The recon force would then have to continue to engage in regular combat or retreat.

      Rule number 1 does look like it might be good to include.

      I know that I did not ask this question, but I would like to say thanks for the clearly worded answer.  I think there was once an essay on the subject a long time ago, but I could no longer find it when I had some questions on this subject a while back…again thank you.        Loose Moose

      That’s great about the red Japanese Army ! They are pretty cool.  Just keep in mind all those modifications were after " many games in the books " and two equally experienced players.
      I am still on the “journey” though I have played many times.  I am currently playing around with a No Japan Victory when India falls.  It just seemed like the USN was just getting itself in a position to challenge the IJN when it was "all over ".  I like the idea of fighting for the islands, naval, and airbases……it is what the Pacific War was all about.  Have fun!

      I had to rewrite it.  Oh well, I made it more brief.

      @USA8:

      I just checked out e-bay.  Thanks.  Eventually, I might pick up 42.2 for extra units like Private Panic suggested.

      Well I hope you scored some Industrial Complexes my friend.  I got 24 in my bin, so I’m sure to have plenty and never run out.

      As for combining 1941 and 1942SE for units, I have done the same, plus a lot of extra OOB units on top of that from HBG so I really don’t use chips in my games (those that I have managed to put together).

      Truth-be-told, I actually ditched most of my 1941 units after combining 41 with 42, because a lot of the 41 units are just wrong for the nation they represent (like Tiger Tanks for Japan… gone… Joseph Stalin tanks for America & England, gone… so forth, and so forth).  Mind you, being able to combine Tigers from 41 with Panthers from 42, and IS-2’s from 41 with T-34s from 42, those are pretty awesome things to be able to do.

      It is always good to start by playing triple A, USA8, as a way of learning the basics. That is how many of us started out.

      Of course you can now play other members of the forum using triple A. If you ever want to do that and need any pointers at what to do then just ask.

      It may be hard to find an opponent who wants to play 1941 however.

      @USA8:

      5. Soviet-Japanese Non-aggression Pact
      Neither the Soviet Union nor Japan may attack territories controlled by the other until Germany or Russia has been captured by an enemy power.
      (Is this a rule now anyway?)

      No, it has been discarded.
