      @Swedo:

      I have no prior experience of painting playing pieces or anything else for that matter. (so be nice)

      I know you said be nice, but I’m going to tell you what I REALLY think instead…. I think they look awesome!

      @Koningstiger:

      They could even partially represent strategic moves in an abstract way, given the scale and time-frame of each turn.

      I consider some of those factories to at least partially represent forward deployment centers. Is that what you’re getting at?

      @Mallery29:

      Give the Allies 10IPC, and go from there.

      I think 10 is way too high. I think 3 or 6, 1 or 2 INF for SSR, is going to be enough.

      It’s a more difficult and confusing transition from 1941 to 1942 if you change most of the units prices instead of the TT values. The TT values are printed right there on the map, but unit prices are something you need to know by memory to be able to strategize your buys.

      Excuse my ignorance, what rulebooks is this a comparison of?

      It’s a comparison of 2 rulebooks for 1941.

    • RE: Kansas City players

      @SUPERFLYPIMP:

      I will head down to tabletopgameandhobby on Thursday as soon as I get out of class, should arrive 5:00 to 5:30.  I will bring anniversary and the two newer A&A 1940 versions.  My vote is for a 1940 global game, (I have played each 1940 version separate but have not played 1940 global yet), but I am not set on a specific game.  Anniversary is a well balanced game too.

      Does anyone know if we need to call to find out if they will allow us to play past 8:00.  If not I could probably scare up a venue in the Leavenworth area.  Please advise.

      The worker when I called said the game room is usually open until at least 11-12, but that it’s up to the people with keys, who are other players. I got the impression that they wouldn’t just give us a key on our first time there. Because it’s up to the players, I don’t think calling makes much difference. If we introduce ourselves to some of those guys, we can figure out their Thursday schedules and know better how late we can expect to stay in the future. I think we should give this venue at least one shot, due to its relatively central location.

      Due to the unpredictable time constraint, I vote we play 1942 2E this time.

      15 seems ridiculous. INF on Egypt, INF on Karelia and 3 INF in Caucasus lets SSR overwhelm Belorussia, Ukraine & West Russia (93% to win ALL battles) without exposing all its ARM or sending a FTR to Egypt. SSR can realistically end its R1 with something like INF ART 2 ARM AAA on Ukraine, 3 INF ART on Belorussia, 3 INF ART 2 ARM AAA on West Russia, 2 INF on Archangel, 5 INF on Russia, 5 INF 2 FTR on Ukraine, and 5 INF on Yakut/Buryatia. I think this puts Germany in a real tough spot.

      Rather than have a bunch of VCs that count for 1 VC each, there could be a bunch of Victory Point (VP) spaces that count for a variable number of VPs each. For example Western United States, Egypt & Caucasus would all count for something. And TTs like Germany, Japan & Eastern United States would count for more than TTs like France, Kwangtung & Hawaii.

    • RE: Indian Fleet Alternatives

      @Vance:

      Russian fighter goes to Egypt.  UK builds 3 destroyers in z35, strafes z37 with everything in range (including z39 transport) and then retreats to z35.   Japanese can sink that fleet but trading expensive ships and planes for destroyers.

      That’s clever. If G1 doesn’t put you in danger of Sealion, then I’d propose a slightly different buy: CA, FTR & DD. Load up 2 INF on the AP. They’re not going to do much in Australia anyway. If you get lucky, then Japan will only get 2 hits. You can peel FTR and SS and retreat to 35. If Japan gets a lucky roll, then the AP from 35 might want to flee to 29 or 33 to avoid giving Japan an extra free bonus AP. Assuming Japan gets 2 hits, placement would leave you with DD, CV, 3 CA & 2 FTR on 35.

      Let’s assume that you and Japan each got 2 hits on the strafing of 37, that Japan peeled FTR and tilted the BB, that you peeled FTR and SS, and that Japan wants to all out attack your navy. They’re 95% to win. That looks bad, but let’s look at the board immediately after. The total IJN is probably 2 BB, CV, CA, SS, 2 AP and whatever they bought. The total JAF is probably 2-3 FTR & a BMR. The US will have SS, 2 DD, CV, BB & 4 FTR in the Pacific theater at the start of US1. That’s pretty close to naval parity before the US has even spent an IPC.

      I wonder how this would compare to the move of UK purchases CV SS FTR, fights to the death on SZ 37, and hopes that at least 1 FTR survives to land on the new CV in 35. In that scenario you would plan to put everything on 35 if you cleared 37, but you’d probably place the CV & SS on 7 if you got rockstomped in 37.

      Also, all this depends on how SSR1 & G1 go. If Germany has a huge stack of FTR on Ukraine at the end of G1, then I’m probably buying CV & DD for 7 and 3 INF for India.

    • RE: Russia attack west russia with everything that can reach on the first turn.

      @MistuhJay:

      @UrJohn:

      It depends on your strategy.

      –CV, AP & 3 INF

      why would you need a third CV when you start with two already?

      I don’t think you’d need a 3rd CV on J1. By the time its J1, you may be down to 1 CV. If the UK attacks your SZ 37 fleet and wins soundly, then Japan starts off on the defensive. You may want a 2nd CV.

      If you don’t buy any navy/air force on J1, then the US can take the initiative in the Pacific. You will be hard pressed to do everything the IJN needs to do: protect Philippines, Borneo, East Indies, Japan, Kwangtung and Manchuria; chase off or destroy the USN; crush India; and pick up Australia, New Zealand and/or Africa.

    • RE: What round do you all in caucasus?

      The VC win is about making the game shorter for players who care about time. Also, an Axis VC victory isn’t about saying “the Axis would for sure win the war” it’s about saying they have done much better than they did historically.

    • RE: .

      @MistuhJay:

      Because if Japan had actually landed on Oahu, the Allies would have TOTALLY lost the war.  =)

      Obviously not. The VCs are on the map to try to make the players care about the areas that were strategically/politically important to the powers at war. A standard VC victory for the Axis is a way of rewarding the player for doing much better than the Axis did in the real war, not necessarily a way of saying that a total victory would be guaranteed. Honolulu is a VC in an attempt to make the US player care enough about the Pacific theater keep the US Pacific fleet there even if he goes KGF.

    • RE: Russia opening move?

      @MistuhJay:

      If I understand correctly, you’re saying you wouldn’t hit WR on G1 provided the Russians hit Ukraine.  Then what would you suggest Germany do in such a situation?  Possibly take Kar, retake Ukr?

      We’re actually pretty much down to sending everything that can reach to Ukraine except FTR from Russia and sending everything else to West Russia including 2 AAA in NCM.

    • RE: Axis win all the time

      @Cow:

      Forgot to add, no hawaii vc bs.

      This game is bad, much like when they introduced aa50 rules to the revised board, it was bad… the allies had all their steam sucked away from them and the uk battleship got nerfed to to a cruiser, it was stupid.

      Like obviously 2 subs is hitting the usa transports or the uk transports, everytime. obviously landing on europe don’t happen till uk3 or uk4. obviously india stalls japan from taking russia. obviously the allies losing africa is big, because if the allies send stuff there, it is not in europe. obviously germany does not buy armor till 2 rounds before it attacks caucasus. Usually when you start going for caucasus, the allies will see exactly how many men will attack it ahead of time, and india moves toward caucasus to defend it. thanks for playing.

      Obvious game is obvious. Not much action is going to happen.

      I am not going to play a ww2 game to be one with the turtle.

      Obviously Cow is in a bad mood. The game is cool.

    • RE: Best Germany coastal defence

      @Hobbes:

      @MEGAEINSTEIN:

      If germany concentrates power in Berlin and leaves just one infantry in coastal territories this is the best defence.
      Because shore bombardment is useless and next turn germany recovers agin easily that coastal territory.

      Sometimes it maybe more worthwhile to fortify both France and Germany. That way you are denying 6 IPC to the Allies, and those can make a big difference to the UK, and you’re not spending units retaking it.

      Also, France has a VC. You may need to hold it for a round to achieve victory. Or, as in the case of the game I won as the Allies, you may need to hold it to stop Allied victory. I captured France with the UK, liberated Karelia with the US, and captured Kwangtung and Philippines with the US. Kwangtung was an oversight and the Japanese player didn’t think I’d attack Philippines. It wasn’t desperate on my part, but I didn’t think I’d get a better chance while USSR was still in the game because Germany was going the southern route.

      @MistuhJay:

      Aaaw, Hitler looks so sad at the end! I almost feel bad for him. “I just wanted the Tigers…”  =(

      Hitler was a person. He died horribly, seeing all his dreams crushed, a broken, despondent, and despair-filled man. It’s normal to empathize with anyone in that situation, part of what makes us human. I feel bad for the decisions he made to put himself and the whole world in that situation.

    • RE: No IC in Southern Europe?

      @Gerco:

      I would prefer giving every territory a IPC number. I think this is possible when you lower the value of other territories and it would make all land territories more important.

      It’s also possible if you play different versions, like 1942 Second Edition or Global 40. Well, not every territory has a value, but the vast majority do.
