Shogun 2?! Awesome.  Haven’t played the first one, but heard it was awesome.

I also tend to hear that the AI for Medieval 1 was the best.

I got the demos for Empire and Napoleon off Steam after I got Portal for free.  They use cloud computing.  Not really my style.  I like having solid copies as well, and Steam charges the same for both “cloud” and hard disk versions.

If the final cost is still the original $60, it will be a miracle of capitalism.  $50?  No way.  More like $80 for all eight nations.  You’ll be paying less than a penny for each sculpt.  When you factor in cost of the actual plastic, labor, electricity, blah, blah, blah, the profit margin per plastic piece could easily be less than a mil ($0.001).  That makes less than $8 profit per set sold.

I haven’t seen FMG’s books, but at $80, FMG would probably need to sell thousands of these to “get their money back.”  This is a major long-term investment.

Inflation only makes the profit-loss calculation more of a headache.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I think I have just solved the Germany Field Gray vs Dark Gray controversy.

1st edition: Germany can be either Field Gray or Dark Gray.  It won’t matter because the Expansion Set will include:

Axis colored Neutrals: Field Gray or Dark Gray German sculpts, whichever is not used in first edition.

Allied Colored Neutrals: Field Gray or Dark Tan UK units, whichever color is not used for ANZAC.

Plain Neutrals: Matching the Gray used for ICs, Airbases, ect.

The alternate FMG dice colors can even be used for the leaning neutrals.

This, I feel, gives added value to the entire line of products and gives the consumer the choice to play with their own preferences, provided they buy the complete set, of course.   It’s a win-win situation.

Hmmm…this is interesting.  Look what I found.  The Anniversary Edition Rule Book says the Germans are still “Gray”.  :? Says so right on page 5:

      http://www.wizards.com/\AvalonHill\rules\AxAl-AnEd_Rules.pdf

Yet, the pieces are clearly black.  Just another WOTC typo?  :|

And look!  :-o Pacific 1940 Rules says on page 4 that ANZAC are “dark tan”, like FMG’s combat dice, but the pieces are clearly Gray…weird.

      http://www.wizards.com/\AvalonHill\rules\AVL1940_RuleBook.pdf

Did they mix up the colors in the factory?

FMG, did you know about this when you decided to make your ANZAC dice dark tan…or it this just a weird coincidence?

      @FieldMarshalGames:

Ok Ok!  The people have spoken!

You all know this is a community project from the start.  Its failure or success will be determined by the community so this color debate will also be decided the same way.

Please take part in the poll.  There needs to be a CLEAR victory for one side or the other… so…

If the poll reaches 100+ I will take it seriously.  If BLACK wins more than 51% of the vote, we will do BLACK.

If the poll goes down and there is not enough voters to make a call… it stays GREY.

      Sound fair?

Poll?  Man, this is what I get for not coming on the forum every day……

No, no poll!  You wanna hear from the people?..Well, this people says, “FMG, you are right, they are wrong.  If Germany is made black, you will be abandoning this customer in particular.  My dice are Gray, I like Gray, Gray makes sense, Gray is better.  Black is stupid.  What’s the point of making a 1000+ piece WWII set if it doesn’t even match the dice?  Do you really want to deal with angry customers who want refunds?  Gray sells very well for the dice, it will sell well for the units set.”

Besides, who made Germany black anyway?

      WOTC:

The same company that made Russia Maroon!  (of all things)

The same company that can’t even spell “Afghanistan” on their $100 game board, on top of making it shaped like Texas.

The same company that can’t even print Pokemon Cards correctly:

      http://reviews.ebay.com/What-Pokemon-cards-are-errors_W0QQugidZ10000000001184987

Field Marshal Games, you are not Wizards of the Coast.

A poll?  Yeah, because we all know democracy is how to keep stupid ideas from becoming reality.

We have a while before the German pieces go into production.  Take your time to think about it.  Listen to your gut.  Not all of your customers visit this forum.  And besides, you have been the most responsive and open company I have ever seen.  You really do care about what the customers want; it shows in the pages of this forum, and it shows in your bottom line.  It shows in the fact you are consistently short of combat dice, even though such a shortage could be easily remedied by raising the price and increasing your profit.

Your combat dice are the Nintendo Wii of board gaming.  Don’t abandon that tradition.  You won’t loose a singe penny by making them Gray, but you just might by making them Black.  Let the vocal minority wine about black all they want.  They can cling to their WOTC unit set with their black Germans with crooked fighters.

I want my Russians Red, and my Germans Gray.  The colors look beautiful together.  I’m looking at the two dice right now.  Those were the colors I saw when I played Axis and Allies for the first time on the Revised board.  I want that on my 1940 Europe board.  I think a poem sums it up nicely:

      Don’t be W-O-T-C, be F-M-G
      Don’t be an X-Box 360, be a Nintendo Wii

Yeah, use an expendable skirmisher unit to draw the elephants away from the main battle.

I never use pigs.  I can never time it right when I light 'em on fire.  elephants simply retreat, and the piggies burn out.

      @THEFAN:

Total respect for the USS Arizona and it’s crew.  Will never forget.  USS NEW JERSEY  My dad was on it in Vietnam.

My brother’s Cub Scout den had a couple of camp outs on the USS New Jersey.

Also, read Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy.  The New Jersey has a prominent place in the story.

    • RE: FMG - JAPAN UNITS

For the Bomber the Mitsubishi KI-21 “Sally” is the best choice.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLKQpceD1mE&feature=related

The Mitsubishi G4M1 “Betty Bomber” is a good one as well, but since it came later in the war, and carries a much heavier bomb load, it’s probably best to save this one for a Japanese Heavy Bomber in FMG’s Technology Set.

The Type 92 Battalion should be the Japanese artillery.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc0H8-O8Z4E

Also, the Japanese Commander Unit should have a Samurai Sword

Infantry 1 ought to have a Type 99 Nambu Machine Gun

Infantry 2  the Type 99 Rifle

If you want a good fighter that isn’t a “Zero” then the Japanese Fighter ought to be the Nakajima KI84:

I have Rome, Barbarian Invasion, Medieval, and Kingdoms.  I think I’ll hold out on any more till I get a computer that can run them on full specs.  Till then, I’ll be on Starcraft.

Besides, I’m way too good at those games.  I average a 10:1 kill ratio even when everything is set to Very Hard.  Also, if i move fast enough in taking cities, I can box the other Roman factions in to prevent them from expanding.  never have money problems.

Starcraft is giving me a new challenge…I love Dark Archons…
