      Hmm, I’d do a tone of research about the period, myself.  Sounds like you got a firm concept of what you want the game to be, though.

      Just played tonight for the first time, it is a fun game. Thanks for the previous advice.

      Just played my first game tonight.  Almost won, too…well, There were two other newbs, and I’m good at strategy, so it doesn’t really count.

      Maybe they have a reverse bid.  The suckiest players play Axis.  :lol:

      Well, I guess my Lord of the Rings Monopoly doesn’t count…but I’ve had some people who didn’t want to play monopoly because it “had a lot of rules”

      Yes, 5 pages is a lot less than 39, but it doesn’t exactly have a record for simplicity.

      So? If monopoly is too hard for you, you need to give up on board games, I was playing the full version since I was 6.

      agreed

      I’m from Jersey.

      Come to think of it, I haven’t heard someone say monopoly was hard since I was very young, and I think it was my little brother.

      so……lets just say I’m stupid/wrong and drop it.

      Btw, just played my first ever game of Settlers of Catan.  Even after having it explained to me 3 times, I was totally brain dead on it until I actually started playing.  Almost won, too, surprisingly.

    • RE: Why is 1942 scenario so unpopular???

      the discussion has been 42, but has gone into strategy.

      When AA50 first came out, 41 was new and unbroken ground.  Now that some time has passed, I think 42 is still the Axis and Allies setup to play, only with bigger board!  The addition of Italy for a 3 vs 3 game makes it balanced.  Short games still favor Axis and long games still favor Allies.  It’s how it should be.

      Can’t wait for G40!!!

      @fanofbond:

      Yea I’ve seen that before and always get a laugh out of it, but he is right Axis and Allies is the most frustrating and complicated game I have ever played. I like the part where he is playing with the bomber.  Honestly, how many time have you found yourself playing like that with a piece on the board.  Here is the link to another video that is pro- AA and mentions that video.

      Very good response.  You think with all the time he spent playing with that bomber he could have actually been reading the book.  Yeah, Axis and Allies has a long rule book…and monopoly doesn’t?

      Still, Axis and Allies can take a while to understand unless you have an experienced friend to play with.

      Hey, I’m thinking about US, too.  :-D

      I think the Mustang should be the dive bomber.  House rule has it defend on a 4 and do other “fighter stuff”.

      I’m not for Russian reinforcement, but that just may be my circumstance.  The games I play only last about 4-5 turns, and Russian infantry in China is a long term investment.  Too few infantry over too long a period.

      While taking out the Flying Tiger on J1 may or may not be “optimal”, I still think 2 more infantry in Yunnan is a good fix.

      But yeah, China had, what, 300 divisions?  How many is that in infantry pieces?  That comes too…33 infantry conservatively.

      Turn 1 buy for Germany: 1 carrier, 1 transport, 2 tanks, and 2 infantry.  Gives Germany a mobile amphibious attack force that dominates the Baltic.

    • RE: 1942 Fairness

      @Cmdr:

      I have to admit, I really enjoy the idea of closed dardenelles.  I like tech, but life is SOOOO much easier for Russia if Italy cannot attack them directly.

      Perhaps, I guess, 1 allied player vs 3 axis players would also balance things.

      I also like closed Dardenelles, but my group will never agree to it.  Allies have to make up for it by landing in France turn 1.  Yes, Italy retakes it, but it keeps Italy away from Russia, and with NOs, UK trades 3-6 IPCs for 11.

      Imo, # of players makes no difference.  At least wit the people I play with, both Axis and Allies work very well together.  I’ve seen Italy do amazing things.  UK lands in Poland, Italy retakes Poland.

      I have a new KJF '42 that will hopefully turn Japan into a mosh pit.  I’m going to try it out next week.

      A note on balanced 1942: Giving China 2 more infantry to protect the Flying Tiger (a Larry Harris House Rule) allows China to actually last past turn 2.

    • RE: Japan Takes Western United States on Turn 4

      Thanks for the offer, guys.

      I have 3 copies of P40, but haven’t opened them because I plan to resell them.

      Whenever I play, it’s at my local A&A Club with the boards there.  Otherwise, I’d love to play a game.

      Since I can’t actually play you, or at least don’t think it worth to open a whole board for it, I’ll simply concede that you guys are the better players in exchange for my cop-out.

      I almost lost that game, too.  Since you guys know what’s coming, I’ll probably get pwned anyway.
