    • RE: How many mistakes on Europe 40??? Let's wager ;)

      There has not, not once, ever been a perfect board game.

      And I know some office junkie is going to sarcastically list something like Monopoly or Sorry. No, those where not perfect. Neither is AA50. Or Twilight Imperium, or A&A Pacific 1940.

      But you know what? They’re still great games. I fully expect Europe 1940 to have a few mistakes and still be great. If it didn’t have any mistakes at all, something has gone horribly wrong.

      @Axisgirl:

      @UN:

      As a big-time admirer of Napoleon and the Napoleonic Era (much more than WWII era), I gotta ask why there are “swordsemen” in this game. I know you’ve said multiple times you don’t care about the issue, but it’s a big one. Swordsmen were phased out of mainstray European armies by at least 1700.

      Because!!!

      Come now, I’m genuinely trying to figure out something here. The least you can do is give a reasoning that’s at least a sentence?

      @Dylan:

      @UN:

      The Napoleonic Wars, although I dislike calling it that, as it implies Napoleon was responsible for every conflict that erupted during that time.

      So what do you call it.

      Just the Napoleonic Era. I usually just call it the “Napoleonic Wars” if I need to be more specific.

      @Mysterious:

      Just looked at the calendar and it’s 35 Days away until Europe debuts!!! we’re getting there!

      So on that note, anyone have some special event planned? such as wearing your favorite Power’s uniform and playing the game, going to the park and challenging the chess players to a global game, posting a youtube video about how stoked you are… etc, I will probably be doing something similar.  grin

      Also does anyone here play StarCraft?

    • RE: Larry talks about France

      @fanofbond:

      Yeah but here on the forums it has been acceptedly that the uk player will controll France

      Perhaps, but I think the Brits have enough to worry about. Besides, the Soviet player will be doing nothing for the first few turns except positioning and buying armies, so why not control the French in their final hours, and the Free French units that remain in the Empire?

      UK seems more likely though similar molds right?

      I hope so. They’ll be getting their own infantry mold, but everything else will be borrowed from other Allied units, which makes no sense historical-wise, but I guess Wizards needs to cut their costs somehow. /sourmood

      @fanofbond:

      It will be the uk then since they’re susposed to control France also. But I know I am going to be making a box for france because two powers in one box is going to be a pain the butt. If it was like china with only inf I wouldn’t care butt digging threw two powers with full armies will drive me crazy.  So I’ll make another box in woodshop

      I don’t think it’s been specified which player controls France. Just like it wasn’t specified who would control China in Pacific.

      The French will share a box with another power.

      Welcome to the forums, Axisgirl!

      I’m guessing Italy, since both Italy and France will probably play a smaller role than, say, the Soviet Union or Germany.

      @Axisgirl:

      Idk, 4 Ships and 12 Infantry is way more than ANZAC starts up with. But can you Imagine how long the UK turn will take if they have to play as France, UK, AND Australia?

      Exactly. France’s turn will probably be taken by either the Soviet or American player.

    • RE: Larry talks about France

      @Axisgirl:

      Do you think the box will be longer?

      Maybe, maybe not. That definitely poses a interesting question: will they be forced to break the consistency of the Europe and Pacific boxes and add a 6th box or will the French units share a box with another power?

      August 24th seems awfully far away…

      @Axisgirl:

      You seriously cant count the French. They are going to be used as British peices anyway. and the Sea tanks? (Cruisers) give me a break. 12 IPC for a unit that is marginally better than its predecessor?

      As long as they are their own full power, the French can very well be counted. And no, they will not be used as British pieces according to Krieghund.

      @oztea:

      Pacific 40 was 90% the same as the original pacific game
      Europe would follow the same trend, with the addition of some sensible territories. More distance from US to UK, more expansive russia, Italy added, North Africa more territories.

      *French faction, neutrals, new units…

      Yes, both. The best-trained and best-equipped were sent with the BEF up to Belgium. So they didn’t sent the majority of the French Army there–-just the cream of the crop.

      @McMan:

      @GrizzlyMan:

      6 inf is kind of a lot for just one territory (even if it is the capital).

      Japan starts with eight infantry in Pac 40. In terms of Revised or 42, six is a ton, but for the 40 games, it’s reasonable. I imagine Germany will start with like 10.

      But it’s France, they were next to dead after the low countries fell.

      Not necessarily. They still had quite a number of soldiers available at their disposal. It’s just that the best elements of the Army was sent up to Belgium and was floored, with the remnants escaping at Dunkirk.

      Well it would make sense if it was 6 infantry in Paris territory, three in Vichy, three in Normandy. And of course the tank, fighter, and artillery is all in the Paris territory.

      @UN:

      No problemo. These quote things are quite wonky.

      I wonder if that was the set-up for just Metropolitan France? Maybe he didn’t list the units that are spread throughout the French Empire? 'Cause I asked whether or not they’d  be a speedbump in France proper, not the entire Empire.

      Are you thinking French Indo-China will have 1 or 2 infantry. I don’t see how France could have 12 infantry in France proper… doesn’t that seem like a lot?

      Well, 12 infantry split between Vichy, the Paris territory, and Normandy, all defending against what will probably be a massive Wehrmacht onslaught, supported by tactical bombers, and then there’s the Italians you have to worry about…

      As you can see, I fail at quoting someone from another place. Can someone tell me how to do this?

      Your problem is that you put a slash (/) on your first quote thingy.

      So it should be just

      TEXT

      [quote.]   (first box without the dot in it)

      Also yes, I am surprised he answered. I would have thought he would have been busy with preping for GenCon.
