    • RE: Mobiliaztion of Units at ICs

This is the page where you can download it and get installation tips.

      http://triplea.sourceforge.net/mywiki/TripleAÂ

This the warclub where you can game and post in the forum.

      http://tripleawarclub.org/index.php

I had to copy and modify the executable file and create a separate icon to play against the AI. they have a walkthrough for that. But I have an older version (the one they use in the warclub). They may have integrated it into the newer version. I don’t know. Trust me.The AI is not very competitive. I doubt you’ll learn much. And I’m not sure if they have integrated LHTR into it for the new version (mine doesn’t). So you’ll have to be careful because the little things can trip you up if you also game here. Like landing fighters on newly built carriers have to be landed in the territory the carrier is produced in unlike LHTR where it has to be in the IC’s SZ.

    • RE: Hearts of Iron, i.e. advanced A&A

Hearts of Iron is by far the best wargame I have ever played. By now you’ve probably figured out that playing one of the larger countries takes weeks to go from 36’ to 47’. If you haven’t already, go the official site’s forum and download the reasearch assitant. It really helps.

And for the love of God, if you are playing an axis country make sure you have enough garrisons w/police already built whenever you annex a country. I was about a week ( 10hr/day) of gameplay in and I was playing Japan and I had swept Nationalist China down to about 10 or so territories where I had planned to stop so the garrisons I was building could catch up to the frontlines ( I only had about 1/3 of China pacified). All of a sudden a “China surrenders event” comes up. It offered me all of Nationalist China only or China plus all of the warlord states that I had taken if I wanted them. I said “what the hell, I’ll take it all.”. Bad move. The whole country went ballistic. The partisan rate in every territory was around 35%. My foreign IC bonus was crushed and my TC was through the roof. I had to create a puppet state and fed it and Manchukuo as many non-resource bearing non-IC territories as possible. It took me almost a year to pacify the whole country. It also took me six months just to move all of my divisions ( I had about 100 mostly Inf and Mtn) into position to push into British controlled Pakistan and India. It took another 2 months to get their organization levels back to full. As it was, I was still upgrading my Infantry from 39’ to 41’ while I was researching 43’ Inf. I had to quit, it was too frustrating. Don’t ever let your TC get out of control or you’re in for a long hard road (partisans kill it). I think I still have that game saved, but I don’t look at it because it represents 3 full days of my life wasted.

    • RE: Mobiliaztion of Units at ICs

Well, triple-a has an AI but it’s not very good and that’s about the only option, I think.

This may be of absolutely no use to you, but….

I had a vast reservior of Classic knowledge, much like you judging from the number of your posts, when revised came out. So what I did to prep myself was to find a finished game here and print it out. I then played the game as they did. Before I looked at the coming move, I purchased units and made my own combat moves. Once I resolved the combats on a dice sim and finished the turn, I looked at what really happened in the game. I asked myself “what did I do differently?”, “why?”, “Did the player see something I didn’t or vice versa?”, “Whose move do I prefer most-mine or the players?”. Once I got to the point where consistently our moves were identical or I preferred my move over the players, I knew I was ready. I had learned everything I could from that and the next lesson had to be learned in plastic blood. The whole time I was doing this I was also formulating each countries opening moves.

So now here I am, about 20 posts in and I’m already butting heads with people about German IC’s, attacking Hawaii, and Germany in Africa. Unfortunately, one of those guys is Trihero so I think I’m in for a first class *ss-whipping.

    • RE: A&A.org 2006 Fall two-on-two Revised Tournament?

I have been haunting this board for well over a year now and I am very interested in participating in this tournament, which is why I finally got around to registering.

I do have an opinion about the burnout issue, though. I believe that the burnout and turnover rates of the singles tourney was primarily a result of the time limit. I noticed that many of the games had warnings issued and a few of the games were defaulted out because life got in the way of the time limits for some of the paticipants. Nobody can guarantee that they will be available every other day for three months and it shouldn’t be expected of anyone.  Although, with teams it should be less demanding because now there will be three players moving before anybody has to post a new move. Also, I can understand imposing a strict time limit for this tourney if the intention is to finish it before the end of the year so that the 2007 Tournament season can be given a longer lifespan and allow for a greater number of entrants. Now, I’m not saying that a relaxed time limit will fix the burnout issue but it might be worth a try if you run into the same problems as the singles tourney.

Note- this is not a dig on the way the other tournament was run because you guys were more than lenient on the time infractions and nobody seemed to get too twisted about it. I was just saying.

Like I said, if the intent is to finish quickly so the 2007 season can have a whole year to play then Switch’s suggestion seems equitable.

Otherwise, I would prefer a double elim to keep a team from getting kicked out because they got hosed by the dice, especially if it’s early. My suggestion would be a best 2 out of 3 with the first 2 games being run similar to the triple-a style. Each team will play one game as the axis and one as the allies running at the same time. The teams playing will negotiate the bid with the knowledge that whatever they will be getting as the axis they will also be giving as the allies so that should keep the bids from getting out of hand. In case of ties, the third game would be an auction bid with the starting point being the bid from the first two games and going from there. I prefer this way because if we are going to declare a team A&A champion, they will have to show their prowess on both sides of the board and it will prevent teams from riding their preferred side all the way to the champoinship. In order to allow for the extra games you should probably start the tournament as soon as 8 teams sign up.

I also like the week off between games. That should help with the burnout.

      ADS and LHTR definitely.
