      Nevermind OOL. Rather limited and obvious calls.

      Oups, sorry for being new at this. Forgot to ask you about OOL in sz 97. The Italians attack with 1 sub, 1 des, 1 cr, 2 fig, 1 sb, so everything available.

      No scramble. It’s too much to handle for the Italians.

      It was just a test. I’m starting up the game. You’ll get a scramble option soon.

      Happy to play with you, Tirano!

      I’ll add 1 fig in Scotland, 1 sub in sz 98 and 1 inf in Yunnan.

      GLHF! :)

    • RE: Germany playbook: overall strategy guide

      trulpen’s G2 DOW heading for Moscow [OOB G40 2nd]

      This opening is an inspiration from COW. Instead of G1 though, it’s a way for Germany to primarily aim for a G2 DOW against Russia. Saving the battleship is nice, but more of a parenthesis here. There is significant strategic gain with a G2 DOW instead of G3, but Germany needs a solid plan to execute. This route focuses on going directly for Moscow, getting other key sites like Leningrad and Ukraine on the way only if it doesn’t disturb the main goal.

      Purchase (30 IPC)

      Ger: 3 mech, 3 tank - 30

      Combat moves

      1 sub sz103, 1 sub sz108, 1 fig Holland, 2 fig, 2 tac W Ger, 1 tac Ger, 2 sb Ger -> sz110 -> 3 fig, 3 tac Holland, 2 sb W Ger

      1 sub sz118, 1 sub sz124, 1 bs sz113, 1 fig Norway, 1 tac W Ger -> strafe sz111 -> W Ger

      4 inf, 2 art, 3 tank Holland, 3 tank S Ger, 3 inf, 1 art, 4 mech W Ger -> France -> S Italy

      6 inf, 2 art S Ger, 1 inf Romania, 1 fig Slovakia, 1 tac Poland -> strafe Yugoslavia -> Romania, 1 fig Tobruk, 1 tac S Italy

      Non-combat moves

      1 sub sz117 -> sz124

      1 cr, 1 tr sz114 -> sz112

      3 aa W Ger -> Holland

      2 inf Denmark -> W Ger

      3 inf Norway -> Finland +4 inf

      11 inf, 3 art, 3 aaa Ger -> Poland

      2 inf Slovakia -> Poland

      1 tank Slovakia -> Romania

      1 tank Romania -> Bulgaria +4 inf

      Analysis

      Now Germany is optimally set for stacking in E Poland on G2. If possible, do also enter Bessarabia to pressure Ukraine, but holding E Poland is more important.

      Enter in the North by Leningrad as well as Russia then gets pressure on all fronts. If they move in to save Leningrad or such (oh yes, it’s a trap!), all the better since those units won’t make it back to Moscow in time.

      No need to bomb Leningrad, since anything built there in R2 will be useless or suboptimal. Maybe bomb Ukraine, but likely the Russians will retreat from there anyway. Risking a sb and then having to repair the mIC might simply be counter-productive.

      The G2-buy of 66 IPC is simply 3 mech and 7 tank in Germany and 1 sb in W Germany.

      On G3 buy 1 fig, 1 tac and 2 sb in W Germany.

      Continue the invasion by stacking in W Ukraine. Grab Leningrad and Ukraine if possible, but do not deviate resources that are aimed for Moscow.

      On G4 simply buy 4 sb in W Ger and 3 tank in Ukraine. If the latter is not available for building, then just 1 or 2 more sb’s.

      Bomb the hell out of Moscow with 4-5 sb and stack everything in Bryansk, including all available air.

      Italy should’ve set up on its I2 to have 2 tank and all air in E Poland in order to do an essential can-opener of Bryansk in I3, maybe also buying a sb in I2.

      In G5 there will be the glorious battle of Moscow. This should favour Germany with +20 inf, 5 art, 10 mech, 19-22 tanks and a heap of Luftwaffe even if Russia has defensively turtled.

      Lets say Russia has built only inf and has about 65 of them in Moscow. It’s still a +90 % battle for Germany, although likely most land units will be gone.

      Great!

      No worries. I can be slow too. ;)

      I think I caught some info where you stated that you prefer OOB and no bid?

      I’m ok with that (have never played BM), but also ok if the premise has changed.

      Yeah, I missed any entry a few pages back. Sorry.

      I don’t have anything against long-term plans. I use them myself. But hey, why don’t we have us a little game were you execute those plans you just laid out? It’ll be fun.

      Do you think it’s enough to let the UK carry the warships in the Atlantic, protecting US transports, while US can focus most of its war efforts in the Pacific?

    • RE: I don't get Vichy rules in BM. Little help?

      @weddingsinger

      Seems just about right. On the other hand it might be a bit dubious to invest two or three rounds in getting those pro-Axis-territories converted. It takes time and effort, while Italy likely wants to rather go for Egypt.

      There are certainly trade-offs in the deal, but perhaps waiting with S France until G2 is good? And take as many of those areas as possible in I1, like Tunisia and maybe Syria? When converting S France after Vichy has been introduced, all those troops will just disband, including the fleet in sz 93 and land units in S France (as I understand the rules). That’s probably what I would do with those rules in effect.

      Vichy pretty much opens up the opening game for Italy, making them able to put efforts usually reserved for S France and sz 93 to other places.

    • RE: I don't get Vichy rules in BM. Little help?

      I haven’t played with those rules, but I notice no one is providing for you, so I can try to make a contribution.

      I have read the rules and to my eye it seems obviously the case that instead of having a few territories and units here and there that are French, they become pro-Axis. Especially the two ships in sz 93 makes life a lot easier for Italy in their first round. And those pesky infantries in Africa and Syria staying put and becoming easily converted to Axis is another advantage. It also makes an African campaign a little more interesting for the Germans, getting to bolster their transported force with infantry here and there.

      A negative is of course that S France can’t be converted to Axis without the Vichy rule being reverted, losing that income of 3 IPC.

      For the Allies, it gives them opportunity to actually get income from French territories that now have become pro-Axis.

    • RE: We need an allied playbook.

      @crockett36 said in We need an allied playbook.:

      I was thinking SOO for Russia would be cash. Between Africa, the Balkans, Manchuria and Scandinavia, Russia can loot their way to victory, grinding just short of Berlin and then “fighting a land war in Asia.” The Americans will take Berlin or die to make it happen for the Brits. They will then leave Italy for the Brits to take care of and head for Tokyo Bay. Literally. Bombers mug the seazone every round until cleared. Subs bring up the rear to convoy. Meanwhile all the transports from Europe arrive to form a grand armada that lands in Korea. The bombing and convoying halts all production. Up and over. Voila. Strategic Offensive Objectives.

      Does the Axis have any say in that? ;)

      It’s good with offensive plans (like in offense is the best defense), but for instance the only time Russia can go for an income push is if there’s an early Sea Lion on the table or Germany in some other way does not put pressure on Russia. If Barbarossa is executed, those plans for Russia will be rather suicidal since it gives away Moscow far too easily. The to some extent pumped up income will also more or less land in the German loot, helping Germany further.

      I think you need to formulate a bit more short-term and realistic objectives in order for them to be constructive. Like Russia putting pressure on the German invasion in order to stall it as much as possible, UK disrupting Italy and controlling Africa and ME, US neutral crush in Spain or the Allies in the Pacific making joint measures to disturb and preferably contain Japan.

      I’m new to TripleA and quite new to A&AG40 as well (about 10 games under my belt), but feel interested and courageous enough in trying out this league.

      Does anyone care to have mercy with me?

      Prefer to play OOB except for the bid. Not sure what a reasonable bid would be either, but perhaps I’ll find out soon enough?

      @barnee

      Getting atleast 3 hits in Yugo would be nice. Still, better 1 or 2 than 5. Can perhaps be an optimal strafe with 6 inf, 2 art, 1 tank, 1 fig and 1 tac?

      Might want to use the Romanian tank for Bulgaria in order to have as much as possible in Bessarabia next turn. If going for a G2 DOW against Russia, I think I would prefer to get another two tanks to the Baltic, but if all three will be needed there, I’d take all three. Hard to tell on G1 though. :)

      Don’t think you’ve asked, but I recently installed TripleA. Can’t say I’ve played there though yet. Tried a game with the AI, but quit it early since I felt the AI did too many bad moves. Maybe there was some deep strategy I missed out on? ;) Have started a game with a friend, but we’ve only managed to get to round 2 so far.

      I’ve read some hints here and there about the League and do feel intrigued…

      I have a house rule that aircraft on carriers can launch after the carrier makes its movement, cause in real life, if there were carriers in Japan with planes, the planes didn’t take off and attack midway from there, they took off once the carriers got to midway.

      @JayDavis said in Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?:

      I have a house rule, when I play the US, I get the Nimitz in 1941.

      @Peck said in Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?:

      I have a house rule too. German infantry can cross the English channel without a transport because in real life people can swim across too.

      This house ruling is fun!

      I have a house rule too.

      Obviously it’s only the French, aka Frogs, who can swim over the English Channel. It’s called frog suit. Obviously.

      But that is not my house rule.

      My house rule partly reflects the installment of the Vichy government, partly builds on French swimming technology being adapted by the Germans, partly includes primitive rocket science and partly simply because Germans are sauerkraut.

      With my house rule the Germans can bounce over the English Channel. In fact, they can bounce over most of the annoying obstacles, like Gibraltar, Sahara, Himalayas and the Atlantic. They can even bounce behind enemy lines, if need be.

      More or less becoming similar to flying Tribbles.

      That is my house rule.

      I think the game would be more balanced that way and more fun.
