Great with the input you are giving!

I’m going to present a preliminary bid this evening and make it final on Wednesday. In between further input is welcomed. There’s still time to chip in folks.

When playing I think that our side should have a 3-day-tempo for moves, atleast for US and UK (maybe also for Russia and ANZAC/France, but doesn’t seem as necessary). Allowing people to chime in.

Since we are opening the debate to change 1 unit’s cost, other cost changes can be debated.

hmmm. I think I’d rather focus the conversation on this discrete issue: will increasing the cost of bombers to 14 improve balance and gameplay? If there is a general consensus that it will, then we will incorporate it.

      Might be a good idea.

Why not try it out in a series of casual games and then evaluate? All you need is a bunch of happy guinea pigs and happy editing. 🙂

Nothing prevents you from playing unranked games.

That is very true, yet more league games means more fun. There’s usually a quality difference between competitive and casual play.

    • German airbase in Holland r1

I have thought about an idea for Germany, which I haven’t tried yet, but probably will. The basic idea is to make the British have to choose between a much needed Taranto and wiping out Bismarck. With a standard aircraft carrier buy (along with either 2 transports or 1 sub and 1 destroyer) for Germany in r1, UK can usually easily choose both.

With an airbase and 3 fighters in Holland/Belgium, they simply shouldn’t be able to do both. Germany should of course have landed atleast 1 fighter in S Italy (after for instance strafing Yugoslavia), so that 3 fighters can be scrambled in both places. I also intend to attack sz 110 with 2 subs in order to get more fodder and save valuable Luftwaffe. I think the good division of airforce then should be 2 figs, 2 tacs and 1 bb in both sz110 and 111 instead of the normal 3 figs and 3 tacs in sz 110 and 1 fig, 1 tac and 2 bbs in sz 111. With the two extra subs winging Bismarck, that should be enough force to dissuade UK from scrambling or lose heavily if they do.

If UK then goes heavy on Bismarck, I avoid scrambling and salute the sunken ship for it’s heroic feat, while Italy goes crazy in the Mediterranean.

Should be worth 15 IPC if it works as I think it will. The airbase of course is inflexible, but still has it’s strategic merits. No need for an airbase in Normandy (or even to take Normandy at all) for instance, but bombers can have the same intimidating effect on the Atlantic from Holland, while also being closer to the other fronts.

I’m sure this has been tried, but did anyone live to tell about it? If so, please do. ;-)

Someone said something about attacking the Carolines is too risky. Can’t find the post, but can respond shortly.

With shore bombardment it’s a +95 % battle. The ships we put at risk are 2 tr, 2 cr, 1 bs. It’s sad and hurtful if it fails and we lose them, but not the end of the game.

In my view now is the time and opportunity to get hold of a true key square with low risk of failure. We might not be able to stay there the next round, but the territory is ours and it is important. J will have to go out of their way in order to reclaim it, and it’s usually not worth it for them.

In my book this is a star-move. ;)

I think you are right on target on most points. The first one is not bad, but debatable.

Guess I should be. @axis-dominion has seriously helped me advance a lot with our three games. The two first were sound beatings. I’m very happy to have been able to pull off a win against Goliath. A pretty unfair bid of 9 for Axis (sic), but still wasn’t easy.

    • RE: Thoughts on Allies Strategy

      @barnee

Getting atleast 3 hits in Yugo would be nice. Still, better 1 or 2 than 5. Can perhaps be an optimal strafe with 6 inf, 2 art, 1 tank, 1 fig and 1 tac?

Might want to use the Romanian tank for Bulgaria in order to have as much as possible in Bessarabia next turn. If going for a G2 DOW against Russia, I think I would prefer to get another two tanks to the Baltic, but if all three will be needed there, I’d take all three. Hard to tell on G1 though. :)

Don’t think you’ve asked, but I recently installed TripleA. Can’t say I’ve played there though yet. Tried a game with the AI, but quit it early since I felt the AI did too many bad moves. Maybe there was some deep strategy I missed out on? ;) Have started a game with a friend, but we’ve only managed to get to round 2 so far.

I’ve read some hints here and there about the League and do feel intrigued…

Oh, I agree with that. Didn’t really advice to buy a mIC at first opportunity.

Point was rather that with i e 18 IPC I’d prefer 3 subs over 1 cr and with 16 IPC I’d prefer 2 des or 1 tr, 1 des or 1 sub, 1 fig.

However, perhaps it’s a matter of taste? On my behalf I just try to give my share of tutoring, not aiming to set any traps.

Happens on all maps for me. Usually after having loaded a couple of games. Have to quit the client, not only a game, every once in a while. Somewhat disturbing.

@trulpen I agree as well, but could prove interesting. The planes could be used in Yunaan though.

Now that is something concrete that’s very valuable! :) Then they will come into good use already in turn 2.

Controlling Yunnan will make things hard for Japan, so it’s a good plan. The figs are also very flexible, so will be able to get back home in time were they’re most needed.

There’s also the option of building units in existing factories instead, including a mIC in Cairo, and shifting air to Moscow through Greece and/or Norway.
