      Good morning Captain. Happy Friday to you. I have been struggling with finding a way to use the Waffen Pioneer unit. I have played several games and neither myself nor any opponents have ever once built them. I had an idea this morning that one way to use them that in my mind could justify their purchase based on game strategy is to clear a land mine while performing amphib. For example, in many games I see Germany/Italy battering Caucasus repeatedly with LCV’s but if you just place a few land mines which you can do on R2 using SRM, then that stops it cold as losing the LCV and any units it carries is a heavy price to pay when the odds of the LMs getting at least one hit are quite high. If a Pioneer was able to amphib across Black Sea and either attack OR clear LM’s during Combat Movement but not both, then I could see a Pioneer being of some value then. But when I read the Pioneer rule book, that’s a no-can-do. So essentially I have two questions:

      1. Any consideration of that being allowed??
      2. If not, can you or others on this board enlighten us with when they have actually purchased a Pioneer and were able to use it effectively??

      @The-Captain Thanks for the reply. Yes, I think as I meditate on it. Intel would probably not get used much for the same reason that Weapons Tech doesn’t. Every IPC is crucial and needs to be driven towards producing war machines that can be used right away. No matter which nation one plays, every IPC is crucial and needed to obtain victory.

      @The-Captain Good morning Mr. Cap. Just have a question of curiosity. Germany, Soviet Union, and Britain all had phenomenal historically exceptional spies operating during WWII. Have you guys ever considered a House Rule for that? I wouldn’t even know what to suggest for how that would operate, and maybe the OOB accounts for that through the Tech Research that no good players ever bother to use. Anyway, just a Monday morning thought to pass your way for potential contemplation.

      @The-Captain Got it. Makes sense. The Super Heavy Bombers, Carriers, and Battleships are some of the most powerful units in the HRE.

      @The-Captain Hey there Captain. Got a question regarding Flak Tower. I know that AAA cannot shoot at Super Heavy Bombers but what about Flak Tower? I may have missed it but I didn’t see that addressed in the Flak Tower rules. There’s a statement about Flak following AAA rules except where noted but I am in a game with Barnee currently where I am doing a Sea Lion attack, so I think it best to get answer from you before making the air raid. Thanks!

      Good evening in the New World/Good morning in the Old to all. Have a Type XXI clarification question. I have not played many games where they are making an impact but have one now. I know that they have a hit-and-run capability where they can withdraw after one round of combat and the victims cannot fire back. My question is if they clear the SZ on the first round but wish to withdraw afterwards for strategic board positioning reasons is that okay? I would think so but want to confirm with the HRE community. Thanks.

      All,
      Good morning from USA! Question about amphib assaults. Scenario is 10 infantry attacking a territory via land. In addition, two infantry + four artillery attacking same territory via amphib assault. Can all four artillery pair with infantry on the attack?? Or because only two infantry are part of the amphib assault, only two of the artillery can pair with the infantry. Any of you smart gents know the answer??

      @The-Captain Got it - thanks. I agree that HRE kind of does tech already thru things like Waffen units, U-Boats, Heavy Bombers, Banzai, and Japanese Destroyers so in some ways you have already addressed tech inherently in the current version of HRE.

      Hey Captain. Have you ever thought about creating an HRE variant for Tech? Tech OOB is rarely used, I don’t use it either. And alot of the HRE additional units overlap with some of the Tech. Biggest example of course is the Super Sub tech for G is already covered with the U-Boat special rule. Anyway, just a thought. I don’t even have specific suggestions for what those could be. But as it stands, all of us just ignore tech and never use it. Whether we play OOB or HRE

I can see where if Germany is having enough success with Barbarossa to hold those three territories and then capture Gibraltar too, that would be extremely difficult for the Allies to overcome. The two extra IPC’s from Spain joining the Axis is not unwelcome either.
