RE: G40 French units in the United Kingdomposted in House Rules
@The-Captain Great addition in our opinion. Those three French units in our game experience end up sitting there the whole game or something close to it. Welcome addition to the HRE sir and gives Allies a little something to counter the new SS Panzer General. Historically some of the best RAF squadrons and individual pilots from game start (1940) were Polish, but not really a way to deal with that as Poland gets obliterated before Turn 1 of G40.

@The-Captain
Thanks for the clarification. Everything you say makes sense. Best thing about the HRE is how there are so many different substrategies within overall strategies which differ each game. Yes, one under-rated part of a Japanese focus on taking the three US (money) islands is that you can negate the ships from Increased Shipbuilding unless the Allies can either rebuild a navy in SZ 10 which hinders an investment in the Atlantic or cause enough trouble in the DEI/Philippines/SE Asia between ANZAC & UK as to make him pay a price for choosing to go in a different direction. -

@barnee Hey Barnee. Sorry I didn’t catch your question earlier. When I said the three US money islands, I was referring to Wake/Midway/Hawaii which with Expanded Pacific is worth 9 IPC’s plus a 5 IPC bonus in play.

@The-Captain Thanks for the clarification. Opens up some new possible Courses of Action for the Allies in India and the Soviet Union which I was not formerly aware of :)

RE: Global 1940 & 1943 Expansions Game Reportsposted in House Rules
@barnee Thanks for posting our game Barnee. Yes, Barnee played the better game but I am improving in our battle matches. With regards to attacking W. Germany, I believe I could have successfully attacked and won as Barnee describes, but my opinion at the time was that it was not a sustainable offense. I think I would have been pushed out with the inevitable counterattack. The Pacific naval battle did seem to me to be a good decision but alas sometimes bad dice win out. I don’t know if winning that battle would have changed the eventual outcome but it would have resulted in me not waving the white flag at that time. All in all a fun game. Looking forward to the next one.

RE: Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansionposted in House Rules
Good morning from the USA to all. Have a general question. Has anybody been able to use the Operation Felix-Heinrich during a game? If so, any tips on how to do so?? I would love to use it since in my games Gibraltar always has a special importance for both Axis and Allies so much so that it is usually the reason why somebody decides to attack the Neutrals if that ever happens. But it seems as if by the time you capture Smolensk, Bryansk, Western Ukraine. Germany got into that position by pushing strong on the Eastern Front which means that US/UK have made some advances either thru the Med or into France and in either case Germany doesn’t have a spare 6 infantry/4 panzers to execute OFH anyways.
Which then leads me to believe that OFH is only possible when facing an inferior Allied opponent. I suppose it could be possible if the Allied game plan was full KJF. But if that is the case, then is Gibraltar really so important as to want to pursue activating OFH? Anyway, for what it’s worth it seems like a really cool thing to pull off but I just never see it being a viable strategy in an actual HRE game against a worthy Allied opponent. Would love to be wrong about this.

@The-Captain Using LEGO in honor of the Captain’s heritage :) MPE is my 15-year old son and he still has his LEGO’s from his younger years. We have our own system for the HRE rules using G40, A&A WWI, A&A Classic and LEGO pieces. So for example:
- Classic G infantry are SS infantry
- WWI chips are 10 chips because our Eastern Front big stacks often run out of red chips
- WWI Russian infantry are Russian Guards
- Elite Infantry are an Infantry with a roundel under it
- LEGO pieces are the Panzer Generals, Commissars, Waffen Armies, etc.
Maybe someday we will have enough games under our belts to earn the free HRE pieces then we can use the real stuff. Until then this is our system for our G40 HRE Board Games using pieces we have readily available to us.

RE: Global 1940 US & UK Lend-Leaseposted in House Rules
@The-Captain Okay, thanks. Those Heavy Bombers are awesome. They are expensive but USA has money and it has a solution to USA’s biggest issue which is getting its power across the ocean. But no problem with the Heavy Bombers. They can take off from Washington, DC, bomb SZ 6 or SZ 112, and land in Soviet Union or London. Literally spans the globe. Now with Allied LL, they can start in Washington, Move to London, join the RAF, and bomb Berlin or Rome all in one turn also. Gives an outstanding counter to all of those Nazi superweapons. Thanks so much for investing alot of your life in creating this outstanding game

Wow! This variant looks really interesting but if I understand correctly, it requires a new map right? If so, is this even possible to play now since the map link provided does not work anymore?? Thanks in advance for any responses to this question.

RE: Strategy Guide Global 1940posted in House Rules
@Cornelis-Post I am thinking that what you said has to be the case otherwise the HR game is broke and I believe that is definitely not the case. I am going to keep the faith that letting Japan reach income levels of 100+ quickly will be a game-loser in the end and see what happens.

RE: Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansionposted in House Rules
@The-Captain New Question for you Mr. Cap. Have you ever playtested additional National Objectives for the HRE expansion?? I got the idea from the YG 3G40 scenario which is inferior to HRE mostly due to play balance issues but also some rule sets that are overly complicated. But there were some interesting National Objectives which are historically accurate and may not upset play balance such as:
- UK bonus from Atlantic being completely clear of Axis naval units
- UK bonus if Burma Road is open and they are at war with Japan
- UK bonus from Operation Husky (control of Malta, Sicily, Sardinia, Crete, Cyprus)
- Italy bonus if those islands are controlled by Axis)
- German bonus from Afrika Korps (presence of certain number of German units in Africa)
- German & Italian bonus from Balkans occupation (Crete, Cyprus, Greece, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania)
6.US bonus from Operation Torch completion (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya)
There were some other bonuses that seem duplicative to what is already in HRE but the six I laid out would in my opinion be interesting optional rules if play balance is not a problem. Your thoughts?

RE: Global 1940 Combat Engineer Unitposted in House Rules
Re: Global 1940 Combat Engineer Unit Happy Friday from Texas Mr. Cap! One question and two observations for the Combat Engineer Unit.
- First observation: Bravo for this addition. Really adds a whole additional layer of strategy to the HRE as they have very unique capabilities to add to one’s overall Battle Plan.
- Second observation: In my gaming, we have found that moving minor factories for Japan westward from Shantung/Kiangsu to be the single most powerful Axis use of the CE and laying mines in Soviet Union to hamper Barbarossa as the single most powerful Allied use.
- The question that we could not find answer to in the CE rules is this: Can a factory be moved to and used in the territory of another member of your alliance?? For example, can Germany build two engineers and then move the Paris factory to Greece after Greece has been captured by Italy?? Or could UK build a minor IC in Persia, then move it to Caucasus and churn out UK units from Caucasus?? I guess the ruling could be different in each case as Greece is a captured territory while Caucasus is an original SU territory.
What is the answer sir

RE: Global 1940 Combat Engineer Unitposted in House Rules
@barnee Thanks for the feedback Barnee. We play exclusively on the board. We do intend to post some game reports after we get more familiar with playing all of the rules. We were not playing with landing craft until recently as we did not quite understand how to use them and unfortunately use of them completely changes the gaming possibilities especially in the Med. Yes, it has become standard Axis play for us to build two factories in China on J1 and after finishing off China to start moving those two factories west. After they are moved, you are well positioned as Japan to have a devastating attack on Soviet Union between those two factories in western China plus a major factory in Korea.

@barnee Rolling for Sumatra attack. Glitch in Triple A somehow resulted in no dice being rolled for this battle. It somehow recognized the infantry/arty as being still on the transport.

RE: Global 1940 Combat Engineer Unitposted in House Rules
@Trout The only counter to that we have found is to keep India as strong as possible for as long as possible as it’s hard for Japan to commit large forces to the SU attack if India can give them a good kick in the gonads from the south.
