    • RE: Japanese surprise attack clarification

@panzerbaguette My thought is that if you are amphibiously assaulting, it is a two part attack in both the land and nearby sea. Since you cannot split it into two separate discrete combats, the two are intrinsically tied. Thus, ships bombarding or landing troops (or even screening) would qualify for the bonus, as they are taking part in some part of the attack.

On a side note, would you have to use the surprise attack on a screening force if there is one? You sort of lose the element of surprise when you blow up the pickets.

    • RE: On factories, How many can you build?

@chris_henry My thought would be that the rule is specifically no Medium or Major factories cannot exist outside of a nation’s home country. Thus, if you take over one of those, and it is outside of your home country, it cannot be a medium or a major anymore. It isn’t reduced because of the destruction of conquest, but the reduced efficiency and support outside of the nation’s homeland.

    • Southern Norway Coastal Artillery

This may seem like an odd thing to post on, but bear me out.
On the Norwegian setup, there is a Coastal Artillery on the the SZ 12 border.

On several YouTube videos we see it in adjacent to Sea zone 13:

      What is correct?

Keep in mind that this coastal gun is probably based off the famous Oscarborg Fortress: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscarsborg_Fortress
      Which is located here:

      Thoughts?
I believe that the gun should be on 13, and 12 is a setup mistake. The historical status agrees, as does the boards of many prominent community members.

    • RE: Italian campaign in Abyssinia clarification

@panzerbaguette I believe that since it refers to “normal rules” both sides may attack any territory of the other, like any other nations at war. Thus, Abyssinia may attack Italian Somaliland.
Eritrea is only important as it is what Abyssinia wants to take to win and end the war.

    • RE: Japan preference

@broken-mortar I don’t really have a preference, it would depend on the game.

In general, if a side in China looks to be getting the upper hand, I would intervene. Otherwise you have a big problem. Major Chinas are BAD for Japan.
The NEI are something I would attack before Jan 41, or a lot later. After Jan 41, they get several reinforcements, including militia on most islands, and a coastal gun on Java. If you attack them before that, they are pretty easy
      .
Overall, I think what I would do a lot of games is attack China, then strike the NEI later if I had free units and was planning on war soon.

    • RE: Declarations of War on an Alliance

@mike141500 Usually it ends up giving the allied power some more income increases. For the Axis, nothing happens, and the Soviets are the only commie.

UK and France are interesting, b/c if you attack one, the other goes to full income, but not war. You or them have to DOW. Germany can use that to remove the US’s bonus from Germany attacking the UK to force the UK to DOW them first.
For the US, it gets bonuses from attacks on France or the Commonwealth, but never directly enters the war due to that attack, only by reaching full income due to a bonus from the attack.

    • House rule: Second Admendment

As you can tell from the title, this is a fun one. :)

This rule basically makes the US a absolute pain to attack, and well represents the Japanese and Germans’ fear of the millions of guns in the US.

      Second Amendment rights:
Whenever any land zone in the USA’s home country is attacked, the US immediately receives a free militia in that zone at the end of combat movement phase. Any enemy units attacking are eliminated if they roll of 11-12.

In simplicity, this gives the US the ability to pop up militia if attacked, as well as shot enemy units in the back. It makes attacking the US harder, as it should be, and compensates some for the bad geography in the Pacific sea zone, where on their surprise strike, Japan could send one infantry from Japan to the West coast and take a territory, permanently denying the US a victory point. That should not happen, and this rule makes that far harder.

Same as land. One border for each zone you want to defend against. So you would need 3 forts in Normandy for complete coverage.

      @generalhandgrenade
      According to the rules:
      “1.15 Turkish straits:
The Turkish straits are significantly narrow enough that they are considered a canal for game purposes.”

The Italian fleet could not have combat moved trough is using the optional rule.

    • RE: A list of terrains on some of the harder-to-see land zones?

@hbg-gw-enthusiast I believe that is correct. They are only really on areas where an international border is a river. Otherwise the river just choses a certain territory.
There might be others, but not that I saw.

Note: That (international borders with rivers) does not include territories like Belgian Congo, Mexico, or Argentina, where is river is in the wrong spot or missing.
