    • Homemade Reference Sheets

I made some reference sheets for personal use. Here they are if anyone wants them. If there is anything that seems weird or doesn’t make sense, please tell me.

More will be coming out over time if I find them useful.

    • RE: Air Transport logistics

@noneshallpass I don’t think this has been FAQed, but I remember this discussion in the current YouTube game. I think it was decided that option 3 was correct. I will try to find where we discovered that.

That includes Antarctic territories, but I am not sure if those technily count. I also added a region key to help with finding the territories. Note this does not include home counties (Land zones contiguous with the capital.)

If anyone sees mistakes, please tell me.

Some other notes, Portugal has an IPP in Portuguese east Africa, Belgium has an IPP in Belgian Congo, and the Dutch have IPP in Suriname and the NEI. Those are the only countries with IPP that I know of. I will try to make a list for you.

    • RE: Turkey At War

@insanehoshi “Aligned” doesn’t mean one nation, it just means “at war with the same major power.” With a power without a reference sheet, this means that you move at the same time, fight at the same time, and, most importantly, give your money to the major power. With Turkey, the money is separate.

    • RE: Spanish Civil War Expansion - v3 Admiral

@sjelso Many consider that the SCW is already heavily skewed in favor of the axis, with the original SCW expansion only making it worse. The republicans need the help. As for the things the Germans get, they still have the ability to lend lease 2 things to the USSR’s one. Also, the BB helps aginst the overpowering Republican navy, and the air transport cannot be sunk by the navy like usual, allowing for better mobility later. Also, militia just represent small units, division size and not corp size, so that is an accurate representation of the Italian aid. Same with the Army of Africa.
Secondly, the Germans have to option to send more aid (planes), which I don’t believe they can do without sending aid to start with.
This expansion, though it may not look balanced itself, is made to balance an tilted war.

    • RE: +5 IPP for America if Italy attacks Free France?

@sjelso I believe that that is probably a mistake. When in doubt, try and get the French to declare war for you.

    • RE: French Navy restricted movement?

@sjelso That is only a problem if your Italian player is bad. They don’t have to go to war and get their fleet smashed. They are allowed to wait until they see an opportunity, and the Allies cannot attack them until they attack. (That is, unless Italy invades some neutral early on and wastes their neutrality.)

Also, the Germans want to try in general to take out France fast. If the UK and France have a turn, they can either reinforce Paris till it is impossible to take, or evacuate a bunch of Frenchmen to make life a pain for Vichy. Either way, not great.

Overall, I think the French navy is an interesting item that is very well done. Its goal is to maximise it effectiveness, either by being defensive, being in a place to strike if possible, or other such thing. I think if it is becoming a problem for your group, you need to look at the way you play the Axis, and adapt your tactics. In general, this holds true for most things. If you find a problem, try changing your strategies before you change the game.

@jan-aerts I hadn’t seen it till just now. HBG has a habit of updating their FAQ whenever they see a new question come up, so it might be new.

    • RE: Aircraft carrier rules in v3- a New Way of Thinking.

@hbg-gw-enthusiast I would just add italicised texta clause saying something on the lines of “aircraft may not be placed on carriers during the place units phase” in that section, and a clause saying “newly built carriers may not be used to guarantee landing spots for fighters and tactical bombers.”
It is rather obvious is you look for it, but I think a FAQ or a additional clause is needed.

    • RE: Global war 1936 V3: defender fighter/tactical movement after destroyed carrier

      @jan-aerts
      According to the FAQ:

Q: I am the defending player in a naval battle, where my carriers were destroyed. I still have a few fighters/tacticals left. What happens to the aircraft?

A: If the Defender lost Carriers containing aircraft, these aircraft have a movement of 1 to find a suitable landing spot. If they are unable to do so, they are eliminated.

      Also, on carrier MAP:

Q: aircraft on carriers can act as if on Maritime Air Patrol, but if you decide to do so, do you also have to un-MAP then (and thus wait a turn), in order to use them for other purposes?

A: No. That is why the rule says “may act as if…"

    • RE: Border Forts getting flanked

@sjelso They are definitely units that shine in specific situations. One thing to remember is that on islands, cities or Malaya, a fort protects all borders. In that case, they are superb.
Other chokepoints could be the Russian font. If you look, you can fortify Smolensk, and then build a line across the Northern section. The south is not the best, but it can work. Other short fronts include bengal or burma, or a defense of France in Normandy or Northern Loraine.

    • RE: Border Forts getting flanked

@noneshallpass That is correct, and even if a bomber just files over the border. When you set up your attacks, make sure to take this into account.

      @captainnapalm
Not necessarily. Carriers are infamous for long shakedown cruises and crew training periods. For instance, the USS Ford has taken almost 3 years to get to operation status. (grated, there were other problems.)
Not allowing planes to be placed directly just encourages using your air bases, and really only hurts tactical bombers or plans to use MAP.
Also, if you don’t like it, just use 15.3. Yes, it gives less flexibility, but allows you to place directly on carriers.

    • RE: Slowly house ruling GW36 into a G40/BBR/GW36 hybrid for 2-players

@sjelso Not sure what you mean by adding Madrid and removing Juneau. Juneau was never a victory city in GW36 or BBR.
I would personally keep the OOB VPs, as they are the ones that have worked the best in testing, and they balance the game. I would go with a idea I saw, not sure whos, but it was to roll at the end of the game to see which set of VPs the Allies/Comintern use, as that encourages both to try their best to get points.
And finally, this was never designed as a 2 player game. It works excellently as a 1 or 3 or more player game. I would try to find a third player.

    • RE: Spanish Civil War - 2 players - Issues

@sjelso They could, but remember, the USSR gets two VPs for republican zones worth IPP, if the are Comintern at the end of the game. Giving those to the US negates those points.
For the Germans, they and the Italians each get a VP for wining to war in Spain. Those points can never be lost, either. It is far better to bag those 2 points, and maybe align Spain, then let the Commies take it.

@munck Thank you for confirming my assumption. This is most definitely not Axis and Allies.
Just to confirm, you cannot place airplanes on a carrier immediately after it is built, correct? This is the part that seems to be causing to most contention.
