    • RE: Turn Order?

      @Make_It_Round:

      Figuring out the turn order for Europe '40 game should be next on our list of things to do…

      Extrapolating from the Global '40 game, the most likely line-up for the Europe theatre is:

      1. Germany
      2. USSR
      3. UK & Canada
      4. Italy
      5. US
      6. France

      Any thoughts as to how this will play out?

      That seems reasonable, considering the global turn order. But we can’t know for sure. Global did tweak Pacific’s turn order.

    • RE: Sea zone numbers

      @Brain:

      @Krieghund:

      Europe’s sea zone numbers will start where Pacific’s left off.

      It’s a good thing that they thought of this because otherwise you would have to call sea zone #1 either P1 for Pacific or  A1 for Atlantic.

      I thought it would be E14 or P7. But picking up where Pacific left off works just as well too.

      There is a fairly primitive alpha last time I checked that had the map but not the rules implemented.

    • RE: Do you want canada as a power

      @The:

      I think Canada as a whole separate power is a bit much. Canada is actually stronger as part of the UK than as an independent power. An independent Canada can’t attack with the UK.

      Unless you made a rule that stated that commonwealth provinces could attack with the U.K.

      So the net effect of this would be that they would have a different color?
      Actually, they also wouldn’t share technology either unless there was a rule for that. Split income would basically be the same thing except simpler.

      @Canuck12:

      @Brain:

      If you take money away from UK by giving it to others (Canada), then that will be the cause of UK’s impending failure.

      Crap BD, you better tell Larry quick before they release the game and it’s totally unwinnable for the allies!

      It shouldn’t come as a surprise to you guys that I like the idea of a forced build in Canada for the UK (or “split income” as Larry has stated).

      This idea is novel, historically accurate and strategically important. Perhaps too small to be its own power (and Canada followed UK policy in the war anyway) There should be some way to represent the fact that so much of British wartime production came from Canada and had to cross the Atlantic before it was of any use. My guess is that, armed with an airbase, Canada will be the main centre for production of aircraft for the UK. (as was the case in the war.) If you can build 3 planes in Canada and use your 10 build in the UK for land/naval units it seems Canada would become an asset for production freeing space to pump out loaded landing craft in the British isles.

      I think split income is a wonderful idea that I support greatly.

    • RE: Is Carrier change to capital ship justifiable?

      Krieghund is right again. Plus, as we all know, carriers are the ship with the most powerful bombardment of all… sorties. And when taking islands, you need that.

    • RE: Turn Order?

      I remember hearing that the game starts late enough in 1940 that there is UPN, that the low countries have all been invaded. But we’ll see soon enough I suppose. I really don’t think the Dutch will have their own pieces, though, if anything they’ll use another power’s pieces.

      As for AAP40, I’ve seen plenty of games where China does fine. Its all on what Japan focuses on. Last game I played, yesterday actually, Japan took Australia very early but as a result China pushed them back to the coast in some areas. Of course once Australia was gone Japan started to dedicate more resources to China, which got pushed back, but China is supposed to be a purely defensive power.

      In AA50, AA42, AA:R, and AA:C the best strategy for Japan was always to industrialize mainland Asia. AAP40 is no different…

    • RE: Turn Order?

      @Dargoon:

      @Andy_Dandy:

      The turn order for the global game is official, Larry gave it to us in his forum. I guess it was something like this: Germany, Russia, Japan, UK, Italy, China, Anzac, USA, France. At least it was the same as the anniversery edt, but with Anzac and France in there, and China with it’s own turn. I’m not 100% on the order between Anzac, USA, France, but they are last.

      Edit: I found the correct list from Larry himself, I had some mistakes:

      1. Germany
      2. Soviet Union
      3. Japan
      4. United Kingdom
      5. ANZAC
      6. Italy
      7. United States
      8. China
      and 9. France.

      Hi everyone, first time poster, long time reader. I’d like to jump in and share my thoughts on how the turn order should be.

      First I’m glad Germany will start the show, with that said I think its not a good move to have China go after Japan for the simple reason that Japan could never steamrolled China during WWII. I say let China play before Japan to let them mobilize a few more infantry units before Japan moves in. Much more accurate and much more fun for the Chinese player.

      Here is what I’d like the turn order to be:

      1. Germany (Axis)
      2. Soviet Union (Allied)
      3. China (Allied)

      4. Japan (Axis)
      5. United Kingdom (Allied)
      6. ANZAC (Allied)

      7. Italy (Axis)
      8. United States (Allies)
      9. France (Allied)

      1 Axis followed by 2 Allies, simple and fun for everyone…

      BTW, this site is awesome!

      Its a little late for that, Harris has made his final decisions.

    • RE: Russia

      France’s “sitzkreig” into Germany is famous as a one of the largest aborted campaigns ever, its true. But that doesn’t mean France and Germany didn’t fight between the invasion of Poland and the invasion of France. France sent a large number of troops to defend Norway.

    • RE: Russia

      @Brain:

      I like Germany having the option of attacking France or Russia first.

      The problem with this is France declared war on Germany, not the other way around. Germany didn’t really have the option of ignoring France.

    • RE: Strat bombers vs infantry

      It makes perfect sense. Infantry divisions have anti-air artillery within them. A great part of the tactics in the game involve protecting your expensive units with cheap, expendable infantry. Plus, its usually a bad idea to kill the defenders of a space unless you have troops to occupy it. This tactic perhaps represents “pinning down” the infantry with other infantry, and then killing them with the planes.

    • RE: Submarine warfare A&A1942 - advice sought.

      A sub can hit any naval unit, including other subs. This means an un-escorted transport will be automatically killed by a sub. Planes essentially cannot hit subs, unless they attack with a destroyer. In this case, roll attack for planes and destroyer, then roll defense for the subs. The subs defense has to be take on the destroyer, not the planes.

    • RE: How useful are cruisers??

      I don’t see Germany building much of a fleet besides subs. UK just sinks it with planes. I see Italy building way more of a fleet than Germany.

      Best guess for when Italy is available? I’d love to pre-order but don’t know where on the site.
      Also, do we know that the color for Italy in AAE40 is the same? This is important…
      Finally, perhaps the Chinese units could be included with another country if costs are prohibitive to sell individually. I’d pay a little extra for a combined ANZAC / China set.
