RE: Making Airbases Required for Flight/Landingposted in House Rules
I think this is a FANTASTIC idea. I have thought about this before, but until now I had a problem with it. My problem was on (as pointed out earlier) that on the continent Japan’s aircraft movement might be too limited.
How about this: Planes may only land on islands that contain an airbase. For continental territory no airbase is required.
Either that or just add an airbase to any place that has an aircraft starting out and build airbases where you want to land. That is the way it was done in the war. If you wanted to station air units closer to the front you had to build an airbase. This would also make it so a lot more airbases would be built during the game.
I don’t think you need to set a limit on the number of aircraft that can operate out of an airbase. Currently there is no rule against stacking the entire Japanese air force in Guam, but nobody does it.
I like this because in the Pacific war any island with an airbase was considered a very high level target since they could not land planes unless there was an airbase.
Krieghund, if you read this at all I would be interested if you guys thought about doing something like this and what the reason was you ended up not going this route. (When I originally heard you were adding airbase tokens I thought this would be the rule)

RE: Tricked out my AA50th - pics in a bucketposted in Customizations
Ok I want these! I think I will attempt to paint my own. One question…Does AA50 come with Hellcats for the US fighter or did you use something else? I never have liked the P-38.

RE: Getting extra pieces?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
In an envelope. I think it had the bubble-wrap in the inside, but I don’t recall. Was there another thread that complained about the packaging or something?
I don’t think the packaging was inappropriate. It seemed to do the trick. I wouldn’t complain about that light spot on my tac bomber’s wing. I’m sure after I played a few more times it would be there anyways.

RE: Ok We Give Upposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
how you are taking DEI on US3 with the LC in Hawaii dead on J1.
LC? What is an LC? I’ve said this before but I guess i’ll repeat
US1 Fleet from SZ 10 to SZ 26 OR 29
US2 Fleet from SZ 26/29 to SZ 54 or SZ 63
US3 take one of the DEI.Answer my questions now if you don’t mind so I can better assist you.
Just a guess: LC = Landing Craft. I assume that is the same as a transport.

RE: Getting extra pieces?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Good. I noticed one of the tac bombers had a light color area of the wing like it got bent (you know how plastic turns white when it gets stretched?) It wasn’t bad though. Probably happened in shipping.

RE: Ok We Give Upposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Hey Maher, What has been your groups typical allied strategy been? Has the Japanese strategy been pretty similar (always J1 attack, focusing your attacks on the same areas, etc?)
I haven’t played P1940 as much as you, but it seems like if the US can keep the Japanese Navy occupied they can allow ground forces to land in Hawaii and Australia to deter a Japanese invasion until the US can make up the unit difference gap.
If your Japanese player is focusing on keeping the US at bay maybe the British can break through the Japanese lines in China and take back Hong Kong. OR if the Japanese are fighting the UK hard, but not replacing naval losses then the US should be punishing the Japanese for that by investing heavily in offensive navel units!

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
All looks great FM!
If its too late to change the sculpt (I’m sure that is very expensive) I don’t mind the infantry looking that similar, but if it is still possible to make changes cost-effectively it would probably be a good idea to differentiate the poses more to show off the amount of effort you guys put into this set. The 2 different infantry sculpts really are a nice touch!
Maybe one infantry looking down his barrel like aiming?

RE: Printing fixed object on the gameboard…posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I saw a picture of somebody (I think it was LarryH) that used this on his game board. I bought some too because it is pretty annoying when the board separates. (Of course the Japanese mainland is in the center of that break so all those parts fall through)
I have not tried it yet though. I can’t ever seem to find A&A players. Anybody from Oregon???

RE: Question about Western US Convoy Raidposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
If you destroy 12 IPCs as Japan the US is down to 38 or so. If Japan keeps up with the US Navy builds it seems like that would keep the Japanese on a pretty even playing field with the US.

Axis & Allies Clubsposted in Player Locator
A friend of mine plays the game “Go” a lot and he found a local club that plays every Wednesdays. I was wondering is there clubs like this for Axis and Allies? I did an internet search, but could not find one. Does anybody know a good place to look?

Shes probably right. If you read this forum you are probably pretty into Axis and Allies. Even if you are upset with WOTC.

RE: Technologyposted in House Rules
I like the idea of paratroopers. It might end the strategy of “clumping” or at least disrupt it.
I do not like how it is a tech. I wish you could just buy a paratrooper regiment and use it any time. I just personally like the game better without the tech rules.

RE: Getting extra pieces?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
@skinny1:
Any one want to buy some used Axis and Allies games? I have all but 1942. I am done with WotC and will not buy another game from that company.
If you are serious email me about your AA50 game

RE: Shortening the gameposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I want to make a 1942 starting setup for this reason. I can’t get anybody to ever place A&A with me so it is hard for me to come up with this and play test it, but maybe your group could.

RE: What if mechanized infantry could tow an artillery pieceposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I think that infantry would still be best on defense.
On Offense 14IPCs gets you:
6-Tank 3 on attack
4-artillery 2 on attack
4-mech infantry 2 on attack (with artillery right?)so you get 3 units and 7 hit points for 14 IPCs
On Defense 15IPCs gets you:
3-infantry 2 on defense (x5)So you get 5 units and 10 hit points for 15IPCs
Edit: Corrected tank cost

RE: Getting extra pieces?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
So I already complained about the battle strip and they said they will send me a new one. Now you guys are getting tac bombers. I wonder if I should ask for that too or I wonder if they will just send everybody the same upgrade kit.

RE: Compared to AA 50posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
It would be nice if somebody came up with a 1942 starting setup for the combined game when its out. I’m also a little worried I won’t be able to find anybody to play. For P1940 I thought I should be the Japanese because I’m more experienced than my opponent, but I could tell the really didn’t like sitting through a few turns without any real action taking place. I thought it was awesome though!
