    • RE: Alpha vs Beta

      I am kind of enjoying the “open-source” approach to product development A&A is becoming. We are getting to give our input into the FM pieces project and we are getting to give our input to the designs of A&A. In the end we will end up with the greatest board game ever made since it will be so refined. I hope the there is an alpha +3, +4, etc.

      If you like a particular version then you can play with those rules, but if we keep developing then the game will get better and better. I will probably always play with the latest rules set, but I will welcome changes.

      Kreig will probably jump in and correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure you have to move into it during the combat move phase. You battle the number of troops shown on the territory.

    • RE: Painted playing pieces

      @chagadiel:

      I did not know they are making more miniatures.
      i have been buying some sherman and german tanks for variety from another figure company since the scales are identicle. But what i want is a wildcat ot corsair for the pacific. wicked.

      I dont know what the answer is to your cornundrum. I would say yes paint your new ones but if you got the time paint just the ships of those you havent replaced yet maybe  a few tanks of each unreplaced side

      Hey Chagadiel, I bought some P-51s, P-40s, and Corsairs from a place on the internet (I think it was from Brookhurst Hobbies). They are pewter, but I was using them for painting anyways. You might want to consider those if you want wildcats or corsairs:

    • RE: China can become a monster

      We are playing a game now with me as Japan. Originally I was planning on eliminating China. I also took HI round 1. I thought I was doing pretty good, but China proved to be pretty tough. The flying tigers flew north and most of their builds were up there. They would keep 1 infantry between the flying tigers, about 4 infantry and a few artillery. I could not blitz and attack these units and I was not going to trade aircraft for the infantry. I would take the adjacent territory and they would counter attack with all the units defending the flying tigers and normally take the territory back. There new builds were either a single infantry to prevent blitzing or defense of the flying tigers.

      I had a lot of trouble closing the burma road since most of my forces were trying to kill China in the North.

      I think next time I will build an IC some place close to India where the Chinese cannot attack (Burma?) and basically ignore the Chinese.

      Currently I am backed up to the IC I built in Shanghai and most of my money is going to ships and fighters to try and discourage the US (which has become a monster) from invading the homeland. I feel the Pacific is lost, but I am trying to make things difficult to take the pressure off Germany and Italy. I am almost ready to surrender to the allies because the US and UK control the Med at this point.

    • Can Transports retreat?

      In one of my games I attacked an ANZAC task force (1-Fighter, CV and DD) with 1 japanese dd,1 fighters, 1 bomber and 2 loaded transports.

      The match ended with ANZAC loosing the dd and damaging the CV. The DDs hit each other, the ANZAC fighter killed the Japanese fighter and the damaged CV hit the bomber.

      At this point can I retreat the Japanese transports since that round of combat was over?

      Can the transports retreat and drop their cargo? (Since they are now defenseless I want to get the cargo unloaded)

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

      You know what they say:

      If you want if fast and cheap it wont be good
      If you want it fast and good it wont be cheap
      If you want it good and cheap it wont be fast!

      I’m ok with that.

    • RE: Why were there only 3 play-test games for Global?

      @gamerman01:

      @MaherC:

      Setups and rules that the majority of AA players will not know about.

      First, I don’t appreciate being called names.  I just have a different perspective than you.

      Second, your beloved A&A Classic was a “messed up game” out of the box by the criteria you’re using to judge these recent games.  Allies should win every time after you figure out how to play.  So why not rip on Classic?

      P40’s a good game OOB.  If you don’t like it, change the rules and make your own house rule.  Apparently you need to be spoonfed with a perfect game that you don’t have to tweak in any way whatsoever.  There are great games called “Chess” and “Monopoly” that need no tweaking whatsoever.  If you don’t like it (1940 games), fine.  You’ve said your piece.

      Next!

      Yep…

    • RE: Why were there only 3 play-test games for Global?

      In my opinion people who want a basic/balanced game that they can just follow the rule book should play 1942. Global 1940 is an advanced version of the game and many advanced A&A players like to make house rules. Did you guys figure out the J1 attack or any of the other “bugs” on your own or did you find out about them by searching these forums? If you came up with those strategies on your own then more power to you. However, playtesting cannot compete with the army of players that are on these forums so once a powerful strategy is discovered by somebody then the news spreads pretty fast.

      If playtesters played every possible scenerio to test it, then it would take 20 years for the game to be released.

    • RE: Declarations of war by transport

      I don’t have my rulebook in front of me, but I think before countries are at war with each other they can pass naval units through seazones that contain the other power’s naval units in it.

    • RE: Why were there only 3 play-test games for Global?

      Then again this game is so complex that even with more playtesting there probably would still be some strategies that, if executed correctly, would “break” the game. For a game to be truly balanced both players need to start with the same initial conditions (chess, checkers, go, etc.)

      I think that is probably one reason Larry endorses house rules.

      More play testing probally would have worked out more bugs, but since most of the issues can be solved with revisions to the rules/setup I’m ok with them releasing it…I was pretty excited to recieve the game.

    • British Flag Roundals

      Does anybody know what these are for? There were I think 2 roundels with the UK that have the British flag instead of that yellow/blue/white/red.

      For the Japanese I cut the landing gear off half of my Vals. That was the worst one for staying on the ship. The others are difficult though.

      He said he got the bomber tech. Maybe he thought it would be beneficial to have all the bombers so he could use the tech he had.

    • Europe or Global?

      Has anybody played JUST a Europe game yet? I think I got a group of people to play this weekend, but they are new and seem to be concerned with the length of time it takes to play the game. I was thinking about playing just the European game instead since it should be quicker.

      Has anybody played it? Was the game play as good as Global (smaller scale of course)?

      How does E1940 compare with P1940?

      I think the great thing about the new rules is it makes the math pretty complex and it is now almost impossible to  keep up with it during a game (will my opponent blitz, will they support their armor with tacs etc.)
