    • RE: Do you want US Marines ?

I like the idea of Marines. I have been thinking of my own rules sets (slight variations of the actual rules). Like Japan gets kamikazis the US gets Marines (US infantry attack on 2 during amphibious assults on the pacific map, but arty does not increase it to 3). Not very powerful maybe, but the idea is to not affect the balance of the game very much.

I wanted to give all the powers 1 unique power each that had historical value.

    • RE: My Painted Europe 1940 Set

I94 customer service is terrible. I emailed them for a week trying to give me better descriptions than country and scale. When they say 1/700 scale what are they comparing it to? When I asked for clarification they ignored me.

I painted my own roundels on the as well. They don’t look as nice as the decals, but I think they do look like they match better.

I also painted the bottom side of the planes, but no detail. If you dont then you can normally see where you stopped painting since the bottom of the planes are round.

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

Normally factories like this will make you pay for tooling and you own the tooling. There are lots of quality injection mold companies out there that can do the job I’m sure.

You might want to make sure you have a new company lined up who sounds reasonably confident that they can use another company’s molds before you cut the old one loose. Show them your sample pieces and they should be able to figure out how the molds work by inspecting the parting lines and fill positions.

Matching colors might be the biggest hurdle. Too bad that other company can’t get it together.

    • RE: Russia is too strong in Alpha 2+

This is off topic, but wouldn’t it be cool if commander units could produce a few infantry a turn in the territory they are currently in (reorganization of disbanded units). I might try this when I get FMG pieces.

Back on topic…All the games I played (probably not as many as you guys) it seems like I can’t get enough enough units deep into Russia to threaten Moscow. Even when I build fast units eventually it takes a few turns to get them to the front lines and I don’t want to slow down my advance because I feel like I have the russians on their heals, but eventually I will get just a little too deep too soon and Russia will bounce back and take out a bunch of expensive tanks and mechs. (mostly tanks by that time since I took the mechs as casualties in previous battles).

I like how much money Russia has, but I think Germany needs a little more since they have to buy expensive units to push into Russia.

    • RE: ANZAC strategy after the hammer falls

If Japan is focused on taking out India, then I like to move my navy out around the pacific just to be nuisance to Japan (convoy raids, force them to keep escorts with transports, etc.) I try not to get them into a position where they can get ambushed by aircraft or a fleet. I like to buy a transport so that I can take Islands that the Japanese are not defending.

I actually kind of like playing as ANZAC. I normally do not get attacked (since I try to keep my ships away from the enemy) and I get to be a general pain in the a$$ to the Japanese.

    • RE: Italy Building Fighters Working Well.

I like the idea. Fighters move fast to different fronts and Italy needs mobility. Even if your transports get taken out then you can still move force around. Plus if the Allies are preparing to assault the Italian fleet they might make the allies think twice.

    • RE: Planes vs. Subs

I always wondered what the reasoning was for this rule. I like realism, but it sounds like this rule actually makes the game more realistic. Never thought of it like that before. Thanks

    • RE: So, you think you are good at figuring out who is ahead in a game?

Allies! The med is packed with allied ships. The german land forces look a little thin. The russians look like they are doing pretty well too.

    • RE: Pics of Painted French Troops

I’m also painting my pieces, but have not got to france yet. I just look for pictures on google:

That should at least get you started.

The word “Alpha” indicates a work in progress. Does anybody know if the rules are still being worked on or is alpha +2 basically global v2.0 now?

I originally thought this was a cool rule because I like special abilities for units, but it definitely sounds like it is good this one got shut down.

Do you have more than 1 set available? I am interested, but I want more pieces than that. (Maybe 2X?)

    • A&A Android/iPhone APP Specs

If anybody has the know-how to make android/iPhone apps and wants to make a good AA app; I had an idea for one that I would pay $5 or so for.

AA takes up a lot of space on the table without all the charts and dice areas you need. It would be cool if a droid or iphone could keep track of all this information to save on table space. Here is what I envision the interface looking like:

      Tab 1: IPC Counter
-Keeps track of all nations IPCs in the bank (no writing this down)
-Keeps track of national production for each power (no more national production chart)
-Has a place to input how many IPCs a player spends during a turn and then removes those from the database

      Tab 2: Battle Tools
-Has build in dice that you can use as an alternative to rolling actual dice. (No more boxes to roll dice in or dropping dice on the board)
-Has a battle calculation tool that you input defending and attacking units and it tells you the odds (this should be able to be turned off because some people might not like a computer calculating odds) and then an “attack” button. It “rolls dice” for each unit and tells what units hit. Each player gets to choose their casualties before the next round begins. This would save having to move the pieces to the battle strip.

      Tab 3: Technology
-Has a place with “check boxes” to keep track of which powers have which technologies. (No more tech chart)

      Tab 4: Misc. (Optional)
-Game save files: A map of the game that you can click a territory and it will allow you to set the ownership and input what units are stationed there. Also a place to select which powers turn it is and how many IPCs each power has in the bank.
-Rule Book: A table of contents that you can click a subject and it will take you to that area of the rulebook.

Maybe somebody could set it up so they get $5 for each app purchased and AA.org gets $1. That way each purchase could support the website.

    • RE: Larry's new tank rules for Global 1940 Alpha Beta

I kind of like this rule in a way because tanks normally do not fair too well when they get ambushed by AT infantry. The only thing I don’t like about it is that I agree this hurts the axis more than the allies because normally the Soviets use tanks for counterattacks and not for defense. Germans attack with tanks and then the tanks have to hold the territory.

You will either need to slow down the German advance to keep infantry paired with tanks or by quite a bit more mech infantry to keep up with the armor.

If this rule is implemented I would like to see infantry movement increased to 2 if paired 1:1 with mech infantry OR SOMETHING like that to help the axis out.

    • RE: 1/2 Dozen American Subs in Sz 97 Bankrupt Italy

In my past games I think I focused on taking africa too much with Italy. I think controlling the med should be the #1 priority for Italy. If the allies need to build a lot of warships in the atlantic to take out Italy’s Navy then they are either building less in the Pacific or they are are not building land units for D-day/torch etc.

    • RE: The Paris Trap

It kind of makes you play the game in a historical way. I think Italy was captured before D-day. After that you have to overwhelm the Germans in France to hold onto it. (Again this is kind of what happened historically)
