    • RE: Japan is too strong?

      @ ShadowHawk: ANZAC bought a detroyer, two transports and a carrier. India mostly infantry and artillerie… There are no IPC’s to buy more. The three ships (one sub was added to India) are helping ANZAC and the US in the Pacific. The English battleship was detroyed in the first round by Japan.

      Japan can buy more transports (but has still one more then the Allies) to recover every island that is taken from it. Simply land bombers near Java and Sumatra (Shan State for example) to bomb any allied land units to pieces. But even if the don’t take Java or Sumatra one turn (which will actually happen in turn 5, because the bombers are in the middle of China to help defeat the Chinese army), the still have 65 or more IPC’s. Enough to keep the allies at bay, and retake Java next turn…

      Yes English fighters to Moscow and not China. The China-case is hopeless!!!

      India has about 25 units after round 4. Not enough to make an impression on Japan. With 19 Japanese air units and about 10 landunits in play the English army is stuck, it can’t even move one space forward…

    • RE: Japan is too strong?

      Thanks!

      I think one key issue here is China, because after round four Japan can spend almost all her money on her fleet (75+). That way the Allies can never drive Japan out of the Pacific.

      And Russia and the UK are in no position to help…

      When Japan has more income then the US, and Germany is reducing Russia to around 15 IPC (usually before taking Moscow and reducing Russia to 0), the UK has only around 40 IPC to ‘defeat’ Germany. (Italy and the ANZAC are meaningless). That’s just not gonna happen…

      Perhaps another solution would be simply to put the two UK-players (Europe and Pacific) together. Then Japan has a real problem in her back!

    • Japan is too strong?

      In my opinion Japan is too strong… Even if we remove two Japanese air units from the start.

      Yesterday I played another game of A&A 1940 2nd edition and I played Japan. The allies never came close to defeating the island nation. J1 I attacked the UK and US, and this is what happened in round 4:

      1. China is defeated (I ALWAYS defeat China in round 4). Never mind the 6 Inf units from Russia. China can at most put 18 units in the field against almost 30 of Japan (4 MIC. 1 Armor, 5 Art, 10 Inf, plus air units…);

      2. I had 24 fleet units and 19 air units (two less from the start) = 43 units, against 28 US (including 10 from Hawaii, but they cannot help in taking Java or any other islands), plus 9 ANZAC/UK fleet units = 37;

      3. Japan had an income of 74 IPC, 2 IPC more then the US. So Japan can buy more ships then the US, and the US has build only two subs in the Atlantic yet, and cannot continue to buy almost everything in the Pacific…

      Please, please, please tell me how this Japanese dominancy can be broken!!!

      Don’t tell me Russia needs to bail China out, because Germany will laugh in her stomach! The UK is always too late too (or Italy and Germany will laugh in their stomach…). And I am buying 10 units in the Pacific with the US from the second turn on (maximum capacity…)… .

    • RE: Key strategy Axis

      Oke here are premises:

      • Russia will of course withdraw alle it’s forces from the Far East, or else Moscow will be even more in danger;
      • The main strategy is starvind the allies out, and taking Moscow eventually;

      @ Shadow Hawk: can you not combine a faking of Sea Lion and a J1 attack? Why not? I and all my opponents fake Sea Lion every game… I know the US has more money to spend, but if it is all spend in the Atlantic, Japan will win the game for the Axis…

      Thanks!

      Let’s assume the US spends 7/8 of it’s income in The Pacific. What should be the main target, and why?

    • Key strategy Axis

      I think one of the main issues of the game is when Japan should strike! I know it depends on wether Germany will choose Sea Lion or Barbarossa, so let’s assume Germany will choose Barbarossa (and faking Sea Lion in the first turn of course!).

      Thank you for voting and please add comments as to why you made your choise.

    • RE: Strategy Axis for Global 1940?

      Okay thanks for the insight.

      1. Barbarossa it is!

      2. Most of my opponents, when they play the US, play a almost-all-Pacific game. Why is it better to attack in the first round then the third? And how do you go about it? How do you defeat China? And I always defeat China in round four (with an extra MIC in Kiangsu). Is that still possible?

      And with how many Japanese troops do you attack Russia? My opponents retreat all 18 units from the far east to Moscow asap…

    • Strategy Axis for Global 1940?

      Two questions (actually four…:p):

      1. Sealion or Barbarossa? And why?

      2. On which turn should Japan attack UK and US? Why?

      Thank you!

    • RE: Changes to help Allies in 2nd Edition

      Thanks all for your insight!

      1. When we played First Edition Sea Lion was a good option. But in the Second Edition, we only played Sea Lion once and it didn’t work out well for the Axis. Does anyone have an insight on that?

      2. And when we play the Axis Japans always attacks UK/US in the 3rd round. Is that a good idea in your opinion? Or should Japan attack earlier?

      3. And when should Germany attack Russia? We attack in the second round… .

    • Changes to help Allies in 2nd Edition

      I am thinking of the next changes:

      • remove 1 Fighter and 1 TB on homeland Japan (Japan is much too strong!);
      • remove MIC on Ukraine (only helps Germany when they invade, and they almost always do);
      • place one extra artillery on Leningrad;
      • remove 3 Russian infantry in the East and replace them with artillery;
      • Lend Lease for England: bonus of 10 IPC in 2nd, 3rd and 4th round, until US comes into the war (won’t affect Sea Lion that much, because you can only place 10 units on UK);
      • put two UK-infantry units on Gibraltar.

      How does this sound? It’s a lot of changes perhaps, but I think the allies will still be in a disadvantage. If Japan holds the East Indies and Germany defeats Russia, the Axis are almost unbeatable… .

      Your insights please!

    • RE: 2nd edition strategy Allies

      Thank you all again! This has been very helpful!

      But in my opinion less is more, so I think I would rather remove some units then add a few: perhaps removing Italy’s battleship (exactly 20 IPC’s ;)) in the next game will give us a more balanced game. This way we don’t have to alter much.

      And I like the idea of extra bonuses for the allies, and as a historian (I wrote a book about WW1 and my book on WW2 is almost finished) I think I will add bonuses to Britain as a Lend-Lease construction. This will also balance the game, for the US is busy in the Pacific…

    • RE: 2nd edition strategy Allies

      Thank you all! Now I know it’s not just me… :p

      And can anyone give some insight on how the allies should play to win the game? Japan first or Germany first? In our experience, when it is Germany first, Japan can never be beaten…

      When I attack Japan (which I always do after playing a few times), it is very (!) difficult to conquer Norway. Germany can always prevent that, if it really want’s to…

    • 2nd edition strategy Allies

      We have played A&A 1940 global, 2nd edition for some time now but the Axis always seems te get on top. And we are very experienced players, we have played all A&A-games…

      Does anyone have some insight into a strategy we can use to defeat the Axis?

      The last time I focussed on defeating the Japanese fleet, but before I could realy make an impression (buying 6 fleetpieces a turn with the US in the Pacific) Germany was taking Moscow and I still hadn’t taken Norway…  :x

      Please help!  :? :? :?

      Thanks!
