    • RE: The Netherlands/Midden Nederland Global/Pacific/Europe Gamers

      Hallo,

      Ik heb ook wel zin in een potje ergens begin januari en ik ken iemand die misschien ook wel mee wil doen. We zijn wel twee volwassenen die gewoon moeten werken enzo. Maar de eerste week van januari ben ik sowieso vrij…

      Wij spelen meestal Global 1940 2nd Edition.

      Laat maar wat horen hier.

      Mvg,

      Erlend

    • How to deal with the Italian fleet in UK1?

      There are several choices to make if you are the UK player concerning the Italian fleet. These next seems to be the best ones in my opinion, but feel free to give your insight…

      Which is best and why in your opinion?

      1. Attack two: Taranto and Malta;
      2. Attack only Malta and place your carrier next to Gibraltar (and buy an airbase there);
      3. ???

      In the first case, how many ships and planes do you use in the attack (knowing that the Germans always place an extra fighter in Italy)?

      Thank you!

      Okay its about the bomber raid than…

      But how is the US going to drive the Japanese fleet from the DEI if they buy three bombers? And shouldn’t those bombers be protected by US planes? And… what if Japan attacks Soviet Far East (thats what I would do the moment I see a Russian airbase there)?

    • RE: How to take the DEI from Japan?

      Therein lies the problem: a combined allied fleet is much weaker than the unified Japanese fleet… even if you have slighty more ships with the allies. So a combined attack is not recommended in my opinion. It is better to place the combined fleet at Java for example and let the Japanese attack the combined allied fleet…

      What does ‘SBR’ mean mean?  :roll:

      And why should the Japanese airforce be tight down? The US fleet with help from ANZAC and UK cannot stand against the Japanese… how can they stand against it alone, and next to the Japanese capital where it is easier for Japan to buy ships?

      But how are you going to wreck Japans economy by landing in the Soviet Far East???

    • How to take the DEI from Japan?

      Usually Japan goes for the DEI…

      And usually they get them and the bonus. How can one of the islands of the DEI best be wrangled form Japan? Is it for example best to attack from Australia or the Carolines? Is it best to use ANZAC transports of combine US and ANZAC transports?

      Thank you!

    • RE: Using Alaska to reinforce Russia

      But if Japans sees a build-up in the far east, they can easely defeat that with their fleet and airforce. How many ships can the US send in let say US3 or US4 or US5? Japan has a whole lot more and can use fighters to attack the far east from Japan. The only disadvantage is that those fighters cannot be used in China or the DEI. But Japan can always use its whole airforce to defeat China first (J4/J5) and then swing around. And since the US is not building up in the south (Australia), Japan can take and keep the DEI without trouble… Who is going to drive them from the DEI???

      If Japan has China and the DEI it will be difficult to beat them…

    • Which is strongest side, and what to do about it?

      1. In my opinion the Axis are the strongest side in A&A Global 2nd Edition. Do all of you agree?

      2. What to do about it in terms of setup or bonus rules? We usually give China an extra artillery, India an extra sub, Gibraltar one infantry and an AA and the US an extra destroyer (Europe/East)…

      Thank you!

    • RE: Italy, Italy, Italy???!!!

      @taamvan:

      1.  buy infantry.   Help Germany defend.  Defend yourself so Germany doesn’t have to.   Warding the allies off the Atlantic wall is very easy if you don’t waste Italy’s troops or money.
      2.  buy mechs and tanks.  Have them follow Germany into Russia.  At a key moment, Italy will be able to rush forwards and kill the screen protecting a key Russian counterattack force, which Germany can then blitzkrieg through.
      3.  fly your bomber all the way from Romania to china.   from China, have it land on Japan.   Use this and/or German bombers to kill the screens that the US is using to protect their key offensive fleet.
      4.  don’t worry about Africa.   Even with your full navy, it is very difficult to either leave the med or defend it against a determined attack.   Even with your full African army, you will need very strong support to defeat the UK, unless they make a stupid mistake
      5.  if you intend to take the extra assets for Italy (southern france, Bulgaria, etc.) do it with a plan in mind.  It is much easier for Germany to use this money to strong effect.
      6.  take Gibraltar, but you’re not going to hold it.  You may need it as a base for either Germany or Italy, or just to slow the allies down/get your bonus.   Use a destroyer or a cruiser to block the allies entry into the med from SZ92
      7. don’t lose your airforce.  it can go all sorts of different directions to follow up on Germany.  It can hang in western Germany and do Italian sea lion.  It can attack Russia with your mobile force
      8.  you can attack UK with Italy.   It helps if you have 2 or more transports;  Sea Lion is far more effective if you attack with 2 (or even 3 lol) Axis powers one after another.   It may still not be a winner, but it makes it far easier for Germany to win even if you lose everything with Italy.
      9.  Africa is a distraction.  Egypt is a distraction.   Your bonuses are not keepable and are largely, distractions.  Don’t mess with 1 IPC territories.  win the game.
      10.  Syria and Bryansk/Belarus are better goals than any NO or abstract victory (high income alone).

      Thanks for this sound advice!

    • RE: G1: How to attack the British navy?

      @taamvan:

      Think the best I read was YG’s opener…sorry its rough memory but its quite sound…

      SZ 111  2 subs 1 air pair 1 strat? 1 BB (one round of combat then retreat to SZ 112 and build carrier+tran with cruiser and 3+2 fighters etc.) 6 attackers
      SZ 110 2 subs 2 air pairs 1 strat?  7 attackers
      SZ 106 1/2 subs (and hope for luck)

      sorry idrc where the strats are supposed to go.  But you should be able to defeat 3 of the 5 places Britain has ships, if not 4 of 5.  Leaving the 109 destroyer and 91 cruiser seem to be the lowest value consensus units…choose 91 or 106.

      I used to think that extreme odds/ overkill were required to beat both SZ 111 and SZ 110 but its simply not true.   If UK scrambles and loses even 1 fighter its a big Sea Lion opening, which means you only need to kill 3 ships in each zone.

      Most of the time, Germany doesn’t even lose 1 plane here.

      Adding a SBR on turn 1 or DoW G1 is what will stretch you too thin.

      Your layout is overkill.  No air is needed to defeat Paris if you bring all the tanks and mechs.

      If you attack SZ 110 with only 2 subs 2 air pair and 1 strategic bomber that means 4 hits (if your lucky)… When UK scrambles they can have 4 hits as well. You lose 2 planes already! Why shouldn’t the UK-player scramble?

      Sea Lion can be prevented by the UK player by going to Gibraltar with the 98-fleet and buying 1 destroyer (they already have 2, so it is not even necessary) at 106…

    • Italy, Italy, Italy???!!!

      Let’s say the British bomb your fleet at Taranto and the Germans sink the Royal navy in G2, then what? What should be the strategy of Italy?

      Personally I tried to take Egypt some times, but was never succesfull. Does any of you know how to go about taking Egypt? Can it be done without German help after G2?

      Thanks!

    • G1: How to attack the British navy?

      How should Germany attack the Royal navy in the first round? Especially SZ 110 and 111…

      I attack SZ 111 with 2 Bombers, 1 Fighter, 1 Tactical Bomber and 2 subs.
      And SZ 110 with 3 Fighters/3 Tactical Bombers, 2 subs and 1 Battleship.

      Do you have a better idea?

      Thanks!

    • RE: Keep the Germans out of Moscow

      It is possible for the Russians to attack Estern Poland, but you have to buy mech units and tanks, and perhaps a TB. Very curious to know how such a game would end, but I don’t think it would be favorable for the Russians to trade their army for a German army. Because unlike WW2, the Germans can make new ones…

      ShadowHawk showed me many new (to me) and good tactical moves, so it was an interesting game to me.

      Unfortunately I made too many mistakes with Japan on J3 to have a realistic game (lost many infantry because I forgot to use my figthers). Also I am not used to playing online, so it takes an hour to do one turn with Japan.

      But I am practicing now… :D

      @ShadowHAwk:

      @Tolstoj:

      I live in The Netherlands, so that won’t be a problem…

      When do you have time? I don’t mind making it a slow game, where we play for an hour every day. Or we could just play a few hours in the weekends…

      I am curious about your move with the allies, so can I play axis? And what rules do you play by?

      About the dice, we play with only one dice. The rest is by calculation: if you attack for example with 20 infantry and 10 tanks:

      20 X 1 = 20
      10 X 3 = 30

      Total = 50 / 6 = 8 hits (6 X 8 = 48)
      2 left, so you throw with one dice: 2 or less is a 9th hit…

      This way you rule out luck, especially in big battles…

      Yes this is Low Luck variant, it works perfectly with TripleA it is a build in option for the game.
      No tech ( lets keep luck out of this as much as possible )

      Yes ill play allies, we are just determining how bad it is for the allies, everybody is yelling they are screwed and need a 20+ bid so we just go without 1 and see how far we get :)

      Great same timezone, Im normaly free in the evening during the week, so around 19:00 ish. WE can spread it over several days.

      Okay, great! Can you start tomorrow? I’ve appointment on 15.00. I hope I will be home by 19.00. Or else Tuesday?

    • RE: Keep the Germans out of Moscow

      That way to few! Russia starts with just 3 artillery. You buy 4, that makes only a puny 7. Russia has 25 infantry at the start and 2 mech + 2 tanks (wich are neede in Persia?). You need at least 15-20 artillery to match the firepower of the German army.

      Attack Eastern Poland? You have lost me, Russia cannot attack until round 4, if the Germans don’t attack…

      Buying mobile units doesn’t make them stronger, but weaker in my view. You have to make stronger arguments then this. When and where is Russia going to stop the Germans? And with how many units?

      I’m testplaying now and I played the game a couple of times, and Germany never failed to at least reach Bryansk in G7-8.

      Would you care for a game sometimes? And by what rules do you play?

      Again, thanks for the arguments!

    • RE: Keep the Germans out of Moscow

      No I take Yugoslavia, France and Normandy the first round, and I have calculated the losses…

      If you attack with 45 Russian units, you will lose more then the Germans: Germany takes Moscow with ease! That’s a horrible trade-off for Russia especially because of there weak offensive power.

      Even if the Russians attack with 50, the trade-off is not favorable for Russia. I think the both lose the numbers, perhaps the Germans even win this battle (Russia has to many infantry and mech’s, almost no artillery)…

      The Germans have more in behind too: 25 units (10 artillerie, 10 mech’s (bought), 3 tanks and 2 mech’s (from France)). How many will Russia have? And they have to buy in Moscow…

      This way Russia is sure to fall!

    • RE: How to handle the Italian fleet R1?

      The Germans can attack on G3. Where do you put your carrier if it survives round 1? Then Italy could capture Morocco or Algeria if you move from SZ92…

      I don’t know if Germany should do it, but sometimes they can…
