    • RE: New Battle Strip

I haven’t spoken to WotC at all since early January when I requested replacement battle strips for both games I bought and tactical bombers. I 6 bombers for each game and a new battle strip for each game.

The Battle strips are even printed right! :-) Altough, some of the bombers took a little beating in the mail, it is nice to have them.

I wonder if there will be a video of a happy Hitler?

    • RE: Getting extra pieces?

      @trackmagic:

So I already complained about the battle strip and they said they will send me a new one. Now you guys are getting tac bombers. I wonder if I should ask for that too or I wonder if they will just send everybody the same upgrade kit.

That is what I did. They said they would send me new strips in feburary then I later added that there weren’t enough bombers. This is what they told me:

We have placed the order for the other battle strip but we are unable to send you extra tactical bombers because we have a limited amount of replacement pieces, but those are for games that are defective, which include having broken or misshapen pieces, or if a game is missing pieces that are supposed to be in the box.

We hear what you are saying about the piece counts of the game. We place great value in the feedback, ideas, and suggestions of our customers. I assure you that Game Support meets with teams around the company on a regular basis, and we make it a priority that your voice is heard. While we cannot guarantee a direct response, we can promise that your thoughts and concerns are being passed along to the right people.

      Thank You

    • RE: Japan Idea

I was considering (without studying the map and setups) setting up a forward base that the US could not ignore in someplace like the carolina’s or iwo. With a stack of infantry to protect fighters and a NB/AB and a large portion of the Japanese fleet, in such a location, it might set up a couple dead zones that the US might not be so quick to rush through.

Add to this a build up on Hainin and you may keep a good position for a couple extra turns.

    • RE: The new SBR system

      @plumsmugler:

I really like the new SBR rules.  The old style of “double dipping” made SBRs incredibly not worth it.  The fact that attacking escorts and bombers got fired on twice made the liability too great. Now it is still iffy if you want to commit to SBR but at least your fighters aren’t exposed to SO much danger anymore.

      I agree.

    • RE: Purchased airfields vs. "Regular" airfields

Aircraft can still land in all the usual places. If you put an airbase in the space it gives some bonus’ to the aircraft in that space.

    • RE: Rules Q&A

I’m familiar with the AA50 rules that essentially say the same as you quoted. However, they also say subs don’t count as an enemy combat vessel for this occasion.

If you read under the submarine specific rules, does it clarify it there? How about under transports

    • RE: Rules Q&A

this just gets more and more fun to think about (clearly I have nothing better to think about).

Situation: 2 sub’s attack 1 CV with 2 fgt’s of the same nationality of the CV. R1 combat, the subs get 1 hit, the CV is now damaged. CV kills 1 sub. R2 sub hits again. So…now that the CV was damaged can the fgt’s takeoff to go 1 zone to an island? Not according to the rule that you can’t fly off a damaged CV. But, if they are in the air during the combat (even though they can’t participate) then they can move 1 space.

However, if both subs hit on R1, can the fighters go 1 space to land?

So, what it comes down to is…are the fgt’s cargo in this battle? that would answer all the questions I think.

I assume they are not considered cargo unless they are friendly fgt.

Last year I bought AA50 from a company and they shipped it so that it would arrive at your house on the date of release.  Does anyone know if coolstuff plans on doing it this way?

    • RE: Rules Q&A

I want to know something about the watermark convoy zones.  I heard they work differently than they did in the old AAP, but no one has given any specifics that I’m aware of.  Have you finished the rule book yet?  Ready for more info.

I would like to hear more about this too…

    • RE: Rules Q&A

      From the fact sheet:

Damaged carrier’s can’t land or launch aircraft when in a damaged state…

This is how I interpret it: If a carrier is damged in a battle where the fighters don’t participate, for example it is attacked by subs and the carrier is damaged with the fighters on-board, then those fighters are not destroyed and do not have to “retreat” to a friendly territory. They are stuck on the carrier until it is repaired and cannot particpate in other defensive or offensive battles.

    • RE: Pacific 1940 review copy has arrived

I don’t know much about how to balance games like this, but it seems to me that if the US starts with a large navy, then gets the big economic boost, there would be no hope for Japan.

    • RE: Pacific 1940 review copy has arrived

The US was behind Japan in the critical number of aircraft carriers, and had to be split between two oceans, but to pretend that the US was pacifist is to just pretend, and has nothing to do with history.

Sorry, I did not intent to hijak this thread. I wasn’t trying to imply that the US was pacifist. We were isolationist in the 30’s. I made the statement that we were “wholly unprepared.” It was an overstatment on my part. As I said at the end of the paragraph “in a nutshell.” That means a very brief overview. While the US has alway’s had the best equiped/trained/prepared military (at the same time being smaller than some others) we lacked commitment and resolve…BEFORE the war. (I believe Axis and Allies represents this by a small starting force). If we were determined, we would have been in France before Germany, and we would have been giving more aid in the battle of Britan.

Your research is well done and appreciated.

I have a friend who took UK on G1. The Allies re-took it with a small land force. On G2 he attacked again with 2 inf and 5 fighter’s. You guessed it, 5 1’s on AA. Game over!

    • RE: Pacific 1940 review copy has arrived

After WW1 America decided they would never fight another world war, so we scuttled a large portion of our Navy, cut military spending and reduced the armed services while we increased social programs in America and planned on avoiding conflicts in the world. This is why we were wholly unprepared for WW2. (In a nut shell)

Ironicly, we are beginning to do it all over again.
