    • RE: Transports can't drop off if enemy sub is present

      @tbt_delta:

      I believe this is only true if you are performing an amphibious assault.  If you are offloading in a friendly territory (moving in non-combat), then you can ignore enemy subs.

      This is correct. The exact text states

      …a transport cannot ignore enemy submarines to offload land units for an amphibious assault unless at least one warship belonging to the attacking power is also present in the sea zone at the end of the Combat Move phase.

      One additional note: It appears that a transport CAN ignore enemy transports to offload land units during an amphibious assault.

      Indeed, it appears that Amazon got wise to the fact that they were shipping it out early. Glad for those who managed to snag it!

    • Transports can't drop off if enemy sub is present

      I was looking through the 1941 rulebook last night, and noticed that there is a provision for transports that they cannot disgorge units while ignoring enemy subs in the sea zone they are dropping off from, unless they are accompanied by a warship. So even though the SZ could be treated as friendly under normal conditions, in this case it can’t. Is this a new rule? I don’t remember it from 1942.

    • RE: Best axis and allies board of all time

      And I replied thinking this thread was about the board itself being the best. But now I wonder if you were talking about the game overall? In which case, I would expect the IPC oversight to be a small matter when the game is taken as a whole.

      Well I just got my copy today. I was impressed with Amazon’s shipping. I ordered on July 4th (US holiday), chose the free super saver option, and got it today. So it was basically 3 day shipping.

      I busted it out, and got my wife to sit through my explanation of the rules. I’ve been trying to get her to play for a while, and this (hopefully) shorter version was the persuasion I needed. We didn’t have time to play, we’ll do that on Thursday. We were saddened to see the 15/17 IPC misprint. I feel like it really can’t be anything but a mistake, since the board seems to contradict itself.

      I’m excited to see how it goes!

      Except for the fact that the IPC chart at the top shows US starting with 15 production, and counting up the numbers yields 17. So even an errata will never erase the fact that the board is wrong.  :-(

      Yeah, Amazon prime is $80 a year. Definitely not worth it if you don’t shop there much. I’ve used a couple of 1 month free trials, and haven’t had any trouble stopping the auto-renewal. That’s lame that they made it difficult for you.

      Yeah, overnight shipping is beaucoup $$. If you have Amazon prime, though, it’s only $4 per item, which isn’t too bad. I used to have Prime, but only when I got it free as a student. I do miss it though :-(

    • RE: Release Date?

      Hmmm, Amazon says they’re in stock and ready to order. I bought one yesterday, thinking they would realize the error and cancel the order. Instead, they notified me this morning that it has shipped.

      I can’t post links, but it’s item number B0084M8UEO.
