    • RE: Big Pieces for AAP Battlemap?

      @ogrebait:

      The “big pieces” bmp file I was using for AAR and AA50 doesn’t seem to be compatible with the AAP ABattlemap file (the country flags/unit become scrambled). Is there a “Big Pieces” file for AAP.

      Thanks in advance!

      Here you go… I made it for you! Just save the image into your AAP.gim folder

I tried doing a search putting the phrase " what is A battlemap but only pull up a few topics that dont fully explain it. Any help on explaining it would be great

      Thanks

      I’ve made a ABattlemap module of this map/game. You can download it at www.axisandallies.us/G10.gim.zip

      Just unzip it into your ABattlemap folder and then run ABattlemap, you’ll see it as one of the games in the list by clicking “New” and click “A&A Global War - beta” Its still beta until others don’t find errors. If you have any suggestions to improve the module let me know.

      If you don’t know what ABattlemap is… you can take my tutorial at http://www.axisandallies.us/stepbystep/

      How do the Convoy zones work? Like the Soviet Convoy is worth 4… does this mean that the Russians are collecting 4 ipcs at the beginning of the game?

    • RE: Disappointed with AA 1942? Perfect!

      @Canuck12:

      Does anyone think it is a coincidence that just 3 days after this, admittedly bland, AA42 leak Larry drops the A-BOMB on the AA community with the announcement of the biggest most bad-assed AA game anyone could ever hope for?

      I am of course talking about what appears to be the ultimate mother(s) of all AA games, far surpassing AA50: AA Europe and Pacific 1940.

      Here’s my take:

      A few people have already mentioned this fact and they are absolutely right: AA42 is not for us. It was not designed with anyone in the AA community in mind. Take a look at it, compare it to Revised, and try to convince me that they expect all of us to pay for a copy of this game which features NOTHING we haven’t seen before. We weren’t meant to buy this game, we were meant to pay attention to it and then decide to save our cash for AA40E/P.
      AA42 is designed to sit on the shelves next to Settlers and the new RISK and Monopoly etc. It’s really the most basic version of the game ever produced and would be fantastic for a 14 year old RISK fan to open on Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Ramadan. (or all four depending on your family tree). That’s precisely what is game is and it will serve its purpose very well.

      Now… as we all got real hyped up on the news of a new AA game and started buzzing around this forum itching to get our hands on a new version of the game, Larry was quietly cooking up a 7-layer triple-chocolate ultimate-amazing fun-tastic new version of the game that would blow away just about anyone on this board.

      This is actually an extremely smart business decision. First, announce a new game and get the community really talking about it. Then, issue a reprint of Revised (AA42) and get everyone super bummed out about it. Then, announce a new game that will keep everyone here salivating for months to come. This offers AH 3 things:

      1. They get to cheaply mass produce a basic (yet still very good) version of the game that is really easy for newcomers to pick up and will not only bring in revenue for years to come but will also open the door for newbies to buy other versions.

      2. They get to extend the hype on the forums for the new AA40 Europe/Pacific Mega-game for an extra half year or so as to make sure every last person in the AA community is aware of its presence (they do this basically for free.)

      3. It allows them to make a ton of dough when we all willingly shell out $100+ for each of these 2 games. This is in addition to the revenue they will make from the mass-market 1942 edition which will likely be the bread and butter.

      Does anyone here think that Larry Harris is not a strategic genius?

      My thinking is… A&A Anniversary just came out and its a masterpiece so that fact that A&A 42’ has come out so quickly after that… was just to update the entry level A&A to be in line with the experienced player version of A&A 50th… it just got a tuneup which is great. It was probably time to make another production run, just made since and the price is nice… I’ve seen it online for $19.95. Now a new player can go from 42’ and move into A&A 50 smoothly. From a players stand point this is all good and for Larry Harris… I don’t think its all about the money but im sure it helps with his kids in college :)

      @shermantank:

      One thing that be changed is that you need to be able to move units and edit the positions of units on the map. It won’t allow that to occur, or at least on my Mapview.
      It’s awesome, nonetheless

      You must not use ABattlemap… you can edit units and postions etc.

      @Cmdr:

      I dont even know if my FoE ID even works anymore.

      Anyway, there is a module of battlemap for AARe and it has sea zone numbers in it, found it very helpful since no one ever memorizes those for some reason.  It would be simple enough to add I would think, just put the number in, no letters.

      ID should work… if your having trouble the system has a lost password thing that will email you.

    • RE: AA50 for ABattleMap downloadable at FoE

      If I had to make a suggestion, I’d say that sea zone numbers should be placed in each sea zone.  And a tech grid would be nice in the Indian Ocean somewhere. (Notice neither suggestion relates to rules since we don’t have power over that.)

      You might need to use a image editor and add the names of the areas… I know Attila wont do this… because you can hover over any area and it will give you the area name or # on the above info bar. You can turn on IPC values however… and it looks like at one time he had the idea to add names but it doesnt work. I’m sure techs will be addressed and I will pass on your suggestion… or join the discussion at FoE :)

      If you downloaded it today… it has been updated and the map now has Revised’s colors… I find this better on the eyes and since everything is new the old colors help to keep from getting over whelmed.

      You can change the colors of the areas with ms paint just open the folder of the module and Map.bmp and fill the areas with the color you want.

      Re-download the module as he updated it overnight… now has the bonuses added to it.

      How accurate is this map do you think? I find that some of the units that are setup can’t be right… has anyone taken a closer look? They have 5 Cruisers 1 Destroyer off Spain for example.

      www.flames-of-europe.de has a Module ready for AA50 downloadable… I’m guessing its based on the pictures and rules people have posted… also read the forum over there.

      You need to have Abattlemap installed then download the module and unzip it to the Abattlemap folder.
