    • RE: Prostitution

“We had an entire discussion on Prostitution and we did not get a single female opinion.”

Coming from the female audience, my opinion is that prostitution is demeaning and harmful to women. By selling your body, you are also selling a piece of your soul. I do not buy into the impression that prostitution is the only answer. Prostitution should never be the answer; there should always be an alternative. When I see a prostitute, I feel so sad and angry inside, watching them throw away his or her life when there is so much left in this world left undone. :x To that man or women, I say go ahead and waste you life if it’ll make you pitifully ‘happy’ and ‘free.’ Be forewarned, once you become involved prostitution, it becomes a sort of abyss with no means of escape. One minute you may be the hot ticket on the block and the next you could be so worn out and used as to forget why you even got involved in prostitution in the first place. I hope I didn’t come out sounding too emotional or harsh, but a topic like prostitution will do that to you.

      “How old is your sister?”

I’m sorry, but my parents told me never to reveal my age online. I hope you can understand. If it makes you feel any better, I will be going back to high school soon, even though I’m still a little young for my grade level.

This may seem a bit odd, but I like strategy games like Civilization, Sim City, and Alpha Centauri. Any game that limits my options and abilities to combat is a little too restrictive. Sometimes I just want to build a small empire, bring happiness to my populace, and become friends with the local warlords. My advice is that the power to create far outweighs the power to destroy.

"Moses’s sister, you are back in time to hear Moses talking crap about you (naieve extremist, to paraphrase him)

Oh really? Don’t worry, he does talk a lot of ill feelings with those we are around with. I just hope anything he said wasn’t too bad. :(

“Don’t worry, we all realize that Moses is an old stick in the mud and that you are the wave of the future.”

Why thank you, sir yourbuttocks. You are a good example of not judging a book by its cover, or in this case, screen name.

“Seriously Moses, how is advocating a Communist revolution less radical than enviormentalism?”

Good riddens, I have never supported communism in my life. But I am an environmentalist in my love of nature and her bountiful spirit.

“Moses, what is French Pizza? And you know that French fries were invented in America, right? And so I blelieve French toasst, though I am not sure.”

Can I answer my brother’s question? I hope he doesn’t get toooo mad at me. French pizza is similar to regular pizza, but with different ingredients and rectangular shape. French fries original did come from France. A nice little story was that American doughboys were the first to experience ‘French Fries’ during their stay in France. After the Armistice was signed, many of the troops shipped home complained about the lack of any ‘French Fries.’ Thus, the French Fry was born. I’m unsure if this story is a hundred percent correct, as there has been some disputes between the origins Belgium Fries and French Fries.

I would like to say, after glancing at these messages, there seems to be a bit of an anti-French outlook. Where did this come from? France is a very beautiful country, and one day I would like to visit it again. Paris, the City of Lights, is absolutely gorgeous and stunning beyond words. French are all very smart, and their Enlightened Thinkers like Voltaire, Diderot, Montesquieu, and Rousseau pioneered intellectual thought. The French have excelled at philosophy, the sciences, mathematics, and literature. If not for the French, there might not have been a Democratic Republic we have today in America. I hope to take European Studies in high school to learn more about their history and culture. :)

    • RE: Britain or USSR?

I usually don’t have a set plan for where and who to attack, but as a preference, UK is more vulnerable on the first turn. Attack the British Fleet on the first turn and move rapidly through North Africa. With USSR, I think a holding operation would work best. I hope this will improve your game! :)

I happen to like performing moves without the benefit of predetermining my turn. Being spontaneous, trying out different strategies is the best way to enrich the gaming atmosphere where table talk is encouraged.

I can’t believe you guys didn’t mention Diplomacy! It is an all time classic, and not to mention, a personal favorite of mine. For those with any interest in checking out this game, it takes place in World War One and focuses more on political intrigue than military strategy. You play as one of the seven powers at the time, using cunning and deceit to gain a upper hand in the European spectrum. Now that Hasbro has republished the game, now is as great of any time to take a closer peak.

PS, It’s nice to be back, if even for a little while. :D

I side with Sir JediCharles. The era of the battleship has long since faded with dawn of the aircraft. Submarines and Pegasus-Class Boats are the wave of the future. Both are hard to detect, and can be mass produced in greater quantities in the same amount of time to construct one battleship. On the drawing boards, some engineers are looking to combine the abilities of an aircraft carrier with the underwater qualities of a submarine.

White is not ugly at all! The board is much easier on the eyes then the old blue splash with humongous lettering. I think that the change was for the better.

    • RE: Horten Forfeits!

The only reasonable response I can offer is that air power wins games. Buying all bombers is a good, economically beneficial strategy. At least I know they will be doing something in the coming turns instead of staring off at the enemy.

Cameron, hopefully I’ll have some free time in the coming weeks ahead. What side do you want to play as? No bidding please.

    • RE: Wacky UK Strategy

I am often reminded the words of John F. Kennedy when he said, “We do things not because they are easy, but because they are hard.” [the quote seems to loss the essence of how his speech and its context]
If I wanted to I could formulate any tried and true strategy for United Kingdom like spend the game ferrying troops to Karelia or preparing for the Normandy Invasion. Personally I never enjoyed it. There’s plainly no fun to by being the “merchant woman” and spending turn after turn shipping troops, whereupon most of these troops to nothing but sit and defend. I’m a firm believer in ATB and VATB because it skips the dullness of being a virtually nonexistent force for most of the game. TG Moses’s strategy for the United Kingdom is the worst example of this. He would be better off saving all of his money until turn three before finally having a chance to use it. In my Australia strategy, I’m at least doing something. The bored player is more likely to make mistakes, and I see that a lot when I play. I use my Australia to freshen times up. It’s time to break away from the conformists mold and not be dictated on what to buy and what to do. Turn after turn, game after game. With that said…

“On Japan 3 you can hit Australia with 8-10 infantry, 2 Battleships, 1 AC, 2 fighters, 1 bomber, maybe a sub, up to 3 extra fighters if you really wanted to”

What strikes me as odd is where you are getting 2 Battleships, 1 Aircraft carrier, and a sub. Do you plan to attack Hawaii on the first turn? I would think that if this were to happen, then there wouldn’t be much of a Japanese fleet left, after America counterattacks on her turn.

“tell us how you would take back Australia with Japan”

Of course, any area that threatens Japan’s sphere of influence is an immediate threat. What I’m trying to do is divert much need supplies and manpower to Australia, instead of where they are needed, Asia. Also, the United Kingdom is at a huge advantage since it goes first before Japan. In terms of placement, this is a one-turn lead for UK that I can used to build up a Navy or fortify. Then you also have to deal with supply lines and plane movement, a real mess for Japan.

“farthest from the action, is one of the best places to put an IC???”

Purely the idea of a factory in Australia is a “action-based” concept under ATB. This gives me the chance of conquering crucial Japanese held islands and forcing the Japanese player to react to my playing style.

“You’re on an island, pretty far away from Japan or the mainland, and the Japanese navy will soon be coming at you.”

There are two aspects that I am unsure of here. One is the supposed Japanese navy and the other is if I’m trying to go straight after Japan. With Australia, in two turns I can reach every single territory in Asia. On turn one alone, I have the opportunity to take or recapture: East Indies, Borneo, India (mainland), Burma (mainland), Philippines, and New Guinea.

“But, if the Japan player ignores you for a turn or two, what are you going to do with this complex?”

Give the simplicity of the weakly defended Japanese-held islands, I’ll probably spend a turn or two build up a navy.

“Axis and Allies stands not only as one of the most stupendous works of man, but also as one of the most beautiful of human creations. Indeed, it is at once so great and so simple that it seems to be almost a work of nature.”

    • RE: The US in the Pacific? NO WAY!!!

I would love to discuss this subject matter for to the light of day. You remarked that I wouldn’t see the greatness of All Power to Germany, until I witnessed it myself. The problem is that I have, many, many times. All Power to Germany is not a new strategy or a very innovative one at that – nor does it mean instant victory. There is something to be said about coming up with you own unique playing style in a field dominated by norms. Now some people are content with consistency, so I really wouldn’t know.

Now you say that Germany can do nothing about an Allied invasion. I feel that this is untrue, as Germany can still accomplish a whole lot. On the first turn, Germany can hamper an Allied assault by UK through the total destruction of the navy. On the following turns, I can consolidate my gains in Africa as well as Eastern Europe. The mounting numbers superiority of the Allies does wreck havoc on Germany psychologically. However, if I can maintain control of Europe, then I still have a collectable income of 25 IPCs. On average I can still buy eight infantry per turn.

Now you said that there are a few things Japan can do about it, but doing so relieves pressure against Russia. I really don’t understand what you mean by “few things,” either by sending planes to Germany or what? I always came to understand that the greatest way to help out Germany is by hurting Russia. So by increasing pressure on Russia, I am in fact relieving pressure from Germany by forcing Russia to defend her home boundaries. Now the way GGF (Get Germany First) sounds, I will constantly be forced to send troops to Europe no matter what. So would I continue sending forces against Germany even though Japan is on the verge of conquering Russia?

“(However, Germany can’t hold EE unless the Allies have screwed up somewhere - see below.)”

In this quote you attacked my idea that Germany will hold Eastern European. However, if you had examined my quote a little harder, you would notice,”…I think that many will agree with me that it is a victory that Germany can keep the Allies at Eastern Europe throughout the game. “ See how I said keep the Allies “at” Eastern Europe. So I am assuming that the Allies will indeed retake Germany.

“Not going Crush Germany is a huge mistake.”

Again, I would agree with this, though my strategy takes things a little differently. Rather than risking huge causalities for victory, which was Russia strategy for much of the World War, I instead propose to let Germany to wither on the vine. Germany will still be crushed, but not until the proper preparations are made so that I don’t face a backlash from the Japanese when all my forces are stationed in Europe.

Regarding Western Europe, the reason why I used 5 transports was because that was what aforementioned post stated. I too believe in no poorly planned attacks by the Allies, but by striking Western Europe with such a limited task force, that is what I am expecting. Will that mean Western Europe won’t be liberated? I really don’t know. The reason why I used 15 infantry and 2 planes for Germany was to represent a worst-case scenario. Mind you Western Europe will still be defended, though to a different degree. There are still 4-5 planes Germany controls near the start of the game.

Now the defeat of Germany is inevitable. But the number of turns this would require is the winning difference for the Axis. I can derive this from the fact that if Germany falls, Japan still has a chance of winning if it takes Russia. Based on IPC count, Japan would function at a income at 56-65 IPCs and the Allies around 74-85 IPCs. Japan does have one great advantage though she doesn’t have to split its forces between two countries like UK and USA do.

The battleship movement is also slightly flawed. First, this movement expects that the Japanese fleet will not go after the American fleet the following turn. Second, this movement assumes that Japan cannot launch fighters from its aircraft carrier to intercept the battleship. Now normally at Hawaii I will lose 1-2 units. On the following turn, the Japanese fleet attacks to unprotected transport, while the battleship is attacked 2 fighters. The battle is in favor of the planes at 83%.
