    • RE: Time Travel

“Sorry, I did not mean it in that way. I talking more about traveling long distances. Cosmic strings might work for that.”

Yes, but cosmic strings evolve and eventually decay due to the radiation and energy they give off. How would you get two cosmic strings together or at least close enough to a black hole to do this? Then you would have to find some way for your time machine to loop around the cosmic string, as well as well the necessary mass energy too travel further back in time. :(

“I think Stephen Hawking explained it best when he said that time travel is not possible because nobody from the future has visited us yet.”

But I always brought up to believe that a time machine cannot go back further than the point where the time machine was created. :(
For example, traveling back further back in time we would open ourselves to many different paradoxes. What would happen if I traveled back in time to killed my father, heaven forbid? Can I travel back further in time then when I was born? Would I cease to exist? Of course I could be wrong. Maybe the reason for this is because our events done in the past from the future could open us to the possibility of parallel or alternate universes, which might explain why no one has contacted us from the future. Time no longer follows a straight line but branches off into many different universes.

“So, we cannot see the black holes themselves, but since the pull of it’s gravity is so strong, we can see the energy pooling up ready to be sucked in?”

Correct! Look at it this way, Sir Yanny, before matter passes into a black hole, it is crushed by the strong gravitational field, which causes the matter to emit radiation that escapes prior to the destruction of matter.

“maybe consider them to be like magnetic fields (VERY crude analogy). a body/solution/molecule subject to a magnetic field (for example, in an MRI/NMR (nuclear resonance imaging) machine will become excited. This excitement has a signiture (likely multiple signitures) that may register in different ways. One of these might well be captured by: infra-red/spin-spin coupling/ etc. (i.e. something that does not get sucked into the black hole).
i hope this is a little clear - sorry, i’m no astrophysicist, however i do find imaging fascinating.”

I find you fascinating! ^_~ It is not everyday that I get to meet someone with such a great understand of both medicine and cosmology :D

    • RE: 1939: World at War

Japan had a strong very good chance of seizing Russian Ports along the Sea of Okhotsk, but, other than that, I do not think they could have made it any further into Russia. Most of the eastern Soviet Union was a frozen tundra. More likely the would Japanese concentrated more on China, Far East Asia, and the Pacific Islands.

    • RE: Trouble Landing US FTR on UK Carrier!

“I’ve run into a prob. When I try to land US FTRS on the UK carrier(CV) in US1 they end up on ECAN. Any suggestions?”

I had this problem before on our computer, and we run Windows 98. What happens is that I build a UK carrier in the North Sea and land US and USSR planes on it the following turn. The problem is that either of the planes, mostly USSR’s, will end up in stuck in Eastern Canada. I have no idea how to fix this, so I guess we both share the same problem :(

Magnificent. I have never seen a custom built board so superbly rendered in both the marriagment of function and design within the constraints of an entirely new vocabulary of art form. Sir Pipercub’s board is a innovatively crafted object, refined in its every detail, the rarest of phenomenia in our time and a working monument to Axis and Allies fans everywhere :)

    • RE: Day of Defeat (the Half-Life Mod)

My favorite classes in Day of Defeat are the German Heavy Infantry and the German Machine Gunner. I know this may seem a bit odd, but the reason why I share a certain affection with them is because of the nostalgia value associated with these characters. I remember back to my twelfth birthday, where my brother had presented me with a gift of two dolls, one of German Elite Infantry and the other, a German Machine Gunner. The exquisiteness of these dolls was truly breath taking and profound. Each soldier came with a plethora of accessories, each with a fine attention to detail. There were binoculars, pots and pans, shovels, canteens, ammunition satchels, belt buckles, extra sets of clothing, daggers and pistols, sleeping bags, and much more. Even the accompanying weapons were meticulously recreated, each with moving parts. Truly authentic. I aptly named the Elite Infantry ‘Herman’ and the Machine Gunner ‘Frederick’ and set them on top of my bed frame where they sit to this day.

When my bother first introduced me to Day of Defeat, I shared only a slight interest in it. I was never a fan of ‘First Person Shooters,’ and I only held the World War Two backdrop in reverence. That feeling was lost immediately when I saw the German Heavy Infantry and Machine Gunner. They were almost exact duplicates of Herman and Frederick! :D The striking similarities between the real life dolls and the computerizations were almost eerie, right down to the same weapon shared for each! For the first time, I could ‘play out’ the situations that young Herman and Frederick had shared in my musings on the computer. From the starry muzzle blast of the STG44 to the deafening crackle of the MG42, I was submerged into their world. Regardless, I did not perform much to my brother’s expectations. I just could not shoot an American Soldier and instead spent my time collecting flags for the Axis Powers. With the heavy equipment, I did not know Herman and Frederick had things so tough! :)

Either way the Almighty will accept you. The hard part is whether or not you will accept him. I do not think anybody deserves eternal punishment.

    • RE: The Drafting of Women

I do not want to be drafted into the military if war breaks out :( I just do not know how much of service I could be or if I could handle the savagery and brutality war brings. Why must I go out and shoot a fellow human I have never ever met in my entire life? I do not think he has ever done anything horrible in his life, certainly not to me, so what right do have to shoot him? If he is the enemy, then there was never any chance I could befriend him? Most likely he was caught up in the war, sent to fight because of the actions of presidents, dictators, ministers, or chancellors that he could never meet or have a say in their dealings. But if my country needed me desperately, and her intentions were clear and not for aggression, then I guess I would accept being drafted. I would try my hardest to be a good soldier and do what I am told, even if my heart was not with me. I do not know if I could serve with pride, but I know I will do it with honor and forgiveness. :(

‘You cannot qualify war in harsher terms then I will. War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it. I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot not heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for more blood, more vengence, more desolation. War is hell.’ ~ General William Tecumseh Sherman

    • RE: The Existence of God

“I’m sensing a lot of anger from you.”

God will accept you even if you won’t. But if you are not happy without God, then it might be hard to be happy even with him.

“I do not have faith in what some 2000 year old power hungary meglomaniacs thought up.”

I do not think the people who started the church were power hungary meglomaniacs… at least I hope they were not. But remember, there has never been something so old that it was not new and something so new that it will not be old.

    • RE: Best Presidents since WWII

I admire all our Presidents, but John F. Kennedy, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Ronald Regan would be a few names that jump to my head.

I do not know if I can accurately determine who did the best at the Presidential job. It is a very tough position, and sometimes, I think that people are a little too quick to judge without knowing the circumstances each president must face before making a decision. I would never want to be President because of the sheer stress, pressure, and amount of work alone. After having said that, I am not to fond of William Clinton.

PS: Barbra Bush for President! :)

    • RE: Sig question

America entered the war as one country and came out as one nation.

‘The war has proved . . . that our free Government, like other free Governments, though slow in its early movements, acquires, in its progress, a force proportioned to its freedom . . .’

    • RE: Are you proud of your country ?

I could not ask for any more than what my country has given me. The Cradle of Democracy, Birthplace of Our Founding Fathers, and the Hallmark of Freedom… all things unite under a brave new world. I may not have been born in America, but it is the place that I can call home. America gives so much and asks for so little in return. She may have been wrought with disdain and conflict in the past (segregation, inequality of sexes and races) with problems persisting today (overseas policy), but the ideals and institutions will always remain the same.

What then is the American, this new man?…He is an American, who, leaving behind him all his ancient prejudices and manners, receives new ones from the new mode of life he has embraced, the new government he obeys, and the new rank he holds. He becomes an American by being received in the broad lap of our great Alma Mater. Here individuals of all nations are melted into a new race of men, whose labors and posterity will one day cause great changes in the world. ~ Michel Guillaume Jean de Crevecoeur
