    • RE: China too weak

      @BadSpeller:

      @RogertheShrubber:

      The AA gun is critical.  I also buy an AA move it to China, and place the second AA in Burma.  The Burma AA makes it tough for any SBR on India, meaning you get three sets of AA roles if they conduct SBR on the mainland.  My oponnent the other day recognized this and tried to set up shop in Sumatra to SBR.

      AAP40Rulebook>page25>Antiaircraft Guns>paragraph2>
      “Air Defense:  An antiaircraft gun can only fire at an air unit when that unit attacks the territory containing that antiaircraft gun.  It does not contribute to the defense of industrial complexes, airbase, or naval bases.  These facilities are considered to have their own built-in antiaircraft defense system.”

      Only 1 die for each strategic bomber.

      Sorry I still play a lot of classic and AAE, and we carry over that rule to the games in my play group.  My bad.

      Lol, yeah brain I hope you have alot of time on your hands it is quite extensive.  My only beef is that it is a bit more Euro theater heavy.  Although the volumes on the Pacific are very good.

      Negate the sub on tranny, the combat in the seazone denies you the use of your BB and Cruiser shore bombardment.  2 inf and 2 art vs. Bomber, Fighter, Tac, and 2 inf is not a favorable battle.  Its 8 die pts. vs. 12 die pts.  In order to take Hawaii you absolutely need the shore bombardment.

      Think of the China territories as a Chess board.  I constantly move and reposition my strongpoints with China.  Early on I try to hold on to the Burma road territories as long as possible, but after a few turns I retreat from those areas.  I think alot of players early on here have clung to the Szcheswan territory and tried to fortify that since the Tiger fighter originates there and its the beginning of the Burma road.  The ability to place units on any territory even if its newly accuired is very usefull.  Retake Yunnan in round one, then place 4 inf there.  This ability is very annoying for the Japan player.  My strategy usually is to try to hold on to Yunnan and Szechwan if I can, but then retreat into the interior territories and draw the Japanese all the way to the edge and northwest corner of the map.

    • RE: Which Battle Had a Greater Impact?

      @ABWorsham:

      I’m surprised this post has found life.

      I’ll sum up the two battles in football terms. Midway was the shocking interception that was returned for a touchdown, it stopped the Japanese momentum. Guadalcanal was the fifteen play drive for 98 yard that took 7 minutes off the clock for the U.S forces.

      I love this analogy, very fitting.

      Kamikazee symbol.  If the Philippines is recaptured, or Okinawa, the Marianas I believe, and Iwo Jima have been invaded, you can use up to six kamikazees on targeted ships.

      I shouldn’t say all soviet heads of command were purged, but most were.

    • RE: 70TH ANNIVERSARY DISCUSSION (3) THE WINTER WAR 1939-40

      All of the Soviet head generals had already been purged, so the Soviet command system was very inadequate and unprepared for war.  Believe it or not the Soviets were also unprepared for winter warfare compared to the Finns in terms of winter gear and survival necessities.

      I agree with Razor as well.  Hitler’s overriding decision making doomed the Reich.

    • RE: Borneo airbase

      It was something I thought was worth testing.  An airbase is pricey, but the theory here is to maximize my most potent defensive units to take away Japans more expensive units (Ships).  This at the same time forces them to engage the UK and bring the US into the war earlier then they would probably have planned. I think with the airbase there on borneo with the defensive firepower adds up to something like close to 30 die points.  Its more of a monkey wrench for the Japan player if his plans were to wait on attacking the allies.  Plus I hate using my planes to trade hits with inf and art, when they should be taking down more expensive items like sea vessels.

      I also forgot to add.  I loaded my trannies with 1 inf each from Malaya and landed them in the DEI (Java and Sumatra).  Moved the other 2 inf from malaya to shan state.

    • Borneo airbase

      I just tried this out the other day and worked rather nicely.  If the Japan player does not attack on round 1, place an airbase on Borneo and station all fighters and tac fighter there.  Move battleship,cruiser, and destroyer off shore.  The Japanese player had to divert a substantial amount of resources to remove this tactical defense station.  Relieved China and helped soak some Jap units before the US could get rolling.

    • RE: What was the best all-purpose tank of WWII?

      I see what your point is and it is valid, the Tiger had a longer range and a more destructive cannon with an 88 as a gun turret making it more powerful head to head.  But the question on the thread was best all purpose tank.  In my own interpretation that means durability effectiveness, repairability, and longevity.  In those terms I believe the T-34 out classes the Tiger.  The Germans had multiple problems with the Tiger due to its sheer size and mechanics, it would break down quite often.  The Tiger was not as reliable as its predecessor Panzers like the Mark IV.
