If you do go the Brazil route it has to be first round. i use seazones 22 and 23. early in the game those are pretty safe seazones, you don’t have to worry about replenishing transports every round. pretty much all i spend in brazil is a man, tank, and artillery, thats just enough every round to help Brtitain, of course if I am all the allies i like to have a S. African IC, its my personal opinion that if Britain retains Africa there is economic parity. The rest of my money is exclusively Pacific after the Brazil buys. If German or Ity navy starts to poke its nose out of the med, then you are obviously forced to send some bombers or a few fighters. Generally I have at least 3 bombers and a fighter or two on a British Carrier by Britain from 1st round moves and a bomber buy as well first round, that usually defuses the option of Italy venturing out early. Its not a fool proof plan by any means, but it seems to make some games interesting. i don’t tend to look at games from wins or loses, just as long as its a fun game. So give the Brazil connection a try, sometimes the Axis players become hell bent on breaking that route and it sometimes messes up their plans early if they are committed on destroying it.

Brazilian IC
I have not seen too many people talk about this, but recently when I play the US I like to put an IC in Brazil right away to shuck units seemlessly into Africa. Another benefit is that it is in direct striking distance of the European coast. In other words it doesn’t take two turns to get to France or the Netherlands like it does from Eastern US. This way I can shuck 3 units to Africa and Europe and commit the rest to the Pacific.

RE: Western Canada and Seazone 1
I have to say yes. I have played it with W.Canada connected. It clearly overlaps to the edge of the map. But I would ask Larry on harrisgamedesign.com. But I doubt something like that would go unoticed if they wanted it to not be connected. If it is incorrect, then that would just be piss poor map design on another scale if they missed that.

RE: Still Possible for an Allie win? 1942
Even though the goal is taking victory cities and not just capitols, once a capitol is taken and held, it will be very difficult to recover. It doesnt sound like you have near enough forces in range to retake Russia, especially if Germany is ready to engage with 20 or more tanks. Once they take that capitol, they have the IPC, the production capacity, and all of Russia’s saved money. Its projected at that point you will lose, but play on I have seen some crazy turnarounds in games, always play till the end.

RE: Ignore Germany Strategy
I wouldn’t rule out any of these strategies, just like any “safe” strat, there is still the luck of the dice, and in my 14 years of playing AA I have seen some insane dice rolling that really makes the game fun and interesting. If anything I welcome strats like these, and sometimes I try them myself in games just to mix things up and keep things fresh. Some of these outlandish strategies will make your opponent think “What the H is going on?” That in itself will create a fun and interesting game.

RE: Turn 2 D-day gambit, terrible idea?
Generating bombers and fighters to kill newly placed British naval units can only be sustained so long. Thats too much money that would other wise be used for combos in inf, art, and armor that should be heading east. I have found replenishing subs is a more cost effective way to deter the british navy along with you original bomber and 1 or 2 surviving planes. I also prefer to not let my planes get engaged too long i the west, when they should be used in lightning war tactics in east, especially when the majority of russian strats attempt to trade out units.

RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A
In 1942 if you liberate any of the Indies, Borneo, solomons, etc, do their IPC value go to the US or does it revert back to UK?

RE: Which is country is your first choice.
Everyone loves an underdog, Im going with Germany. Its an awesome feeling when your axis to meet up the Japs in the Middle East. When forces meet in Persia don’t stop your inertia!

RE: Can you win in 3 turns?
You also have to keep in mind if the German wolf pack is still at 5 or 6 sub strenghth around rounds 2 and 3, the Brits are only bringing in money at the mid to low teens, only enough for 4 to 5 infs per round. When I play sealion works above average around 60% of the time. If my subs roll above average in round 1, the Kriegsmarine is saddling up for a ride to Buckingham palace!

RE: Retreating question
Dang, there has been numerous times I go into a conflict only wanting to do a little damage and retreat out to save my tanks, because I don’t want them vulnerable in a newly acquired territory. Thanks for the answer.

Retreating question
I employ the attack and retreat method with russia in AAE, and sometimes I have unexpectadly won the battle on the first turn. Can I still retreat and just leave the territory in Germany’s hands or do I have to stay in that territory.
