Way back in my classic days, I attacked karelia as Germany with 5 tanks 5 men and 2 planes and a bomber against 8 russian men. I managed a healthy 6 hits, on the rusky’s turn he rolled an amazing 7 out of 8! i reluctantly went ahead because I was stubborn, rolled no hits in round 2. The rusky came back with snake eyes! back then we used to play on my buddies coin operated pool table, in rage i threw the dice on the table , one flying into the corner pocket never to be retrieved again.

RE: Favorite WWII Ship
Interesting side note about the Enterprise, during the Battle of Santa Cruz, the radar tower was badly damaged, so an engineer went up there to repair and restore juice to it. They forgot to cut the power to the tower while he was up there working, when he repaired the tower and bridged the power to the tower it started spinning while he was hanging up there. With enemy Vals and Zeros dropping bombs on the Enterprise, he spun up there for a good 20 minutes unaware by the captain. When they finally realized they had a man on the tower they cut the juice and got him down. Talk about a horrifying experience!

RE: Favorite WWII Ship
I concur with Frimmel, the Enterpise is my fav, that carrier at one point was our only carrier in the Pacific and it held its own.

RE: My take on LL versus Dice
In all the the 94th took out 3 enemy divisions, and took 20,000 prisoners.

RE: My take on LL versus Dice
I personally don’t like LL, as in the real war there were gambles against overwhelming odds that prevailed. Using dice gives you that opportunity. I don’t think Patton was going on statistics when he sent the 94th Ghost Corp into the Siegrfried Line in March of '45. The Ghost Corp primarily of infantry and light artillery withstood the barrage of a whole Panzer division and managed to reach the Rhine!

RE: I need some ideas to invade norway with the allies…
In terms of the German player buying, subs for G2, the strat works in helping the Russian player, forcing the German player to draw his attention to the atlantic and take some income away from land based units to throw at Russia

RE: I need some ideas to invade norway with the allies…
Very good point Lucky. I have simmed this 4 different times, and the German engagment off the US ended up in a wash 3 out of 4 times. Depending on the dice and German sub strengh, it would be a good idea to land the Fighter on the CV for added defensive strength. There are 3 routes the German player can use in round 1 to determine the success of my strat. the german player can a) use his subs primarily on convoy capture (which would create a whole new scenario with additional ships left from none attack for the British, b)use a mixture of convoy capture and naval engagements( depending on what convoys were captured and what remains after the sea battles, the seazones where the battles took place should leave a minimal # of subs if any, then you would have to take into account if the convoy capturing subs would be in range for a turn 2 assault off of the Brit Isles aided with air support). C) the only other option would be fullscale naval engagements on all ship laiden seazones, this route would probably leave a fair amount of subs in the water due to overwhelming sea power in some zones. If the German player chose option c, your idea with added DD instead of the CV maybe a good route to take in order to engage the added sub strength. In most of my games against the opponents i play with option b is common. Having the US dd is a definite plus for my strat to work in terms of the scenario of the Canadian DD and tranny still afloat. I like to have a CV in order to use my fighter’s defensive strength if I can to deter air assaults by germany on my fleets. having a BB with left over DD’s and tranies can still be an effective deterrent against Germany. So in your case the concept of the strat still holds its integrity with the idea of combining US and Brit naval power.

RE: I need some ideas to invade norway with the allies…
Yeah, lucky is right, i failed to mention, if the DD off canada is still afloat, most likely it will be, you need to use that DD plus air to clean the western Brit shores, the US DD and air can help clear as well after that.

RE: I need some ideas to invade norway with the allies…
UK buy 1 carrier place in Canada, save rest, hopefully your DD and tran survived round one (it really hinges on keeping that Canadian tranny alive rnd 1) us air power to clear western border seazones of Brit Isles
US buy 1 BB, 1 sub, 1 trans, leave DD and tran if survived with new buys. (Use the US sub to reacapture US convoys taken by Germany). Also send Russian fleet towards Brit Isles to draw fire or to recapture convoys. (US air of figheter, and bomber should land in Brit en route to Russia, another option is to engage rnd 1 with destroyer and US air to help clear subs from surrounding UK seazones if German presence is still strong, meaning you will have to ship the DD away from US fleet round 1 making the DD vulnerable.
turn 2 move en masse US fleet and brit carrier to the seazone bordering the northwest preferrrably ( if not safe you’ll need to place en masse in Celtic Sea and wait a turn to invade Norway). Land Brit fighters on carrier and purchass 3 trannies to unload your starting 4 men, art, and 2 tanks round 3 into Norway. (Most people will not agree keeping the Brit fighters at the Isles, but a good Rusky player can hold out fine without.
Turn 3 engage Norway with loaded trannies and air, follow US turn with added support and the BB in the same zone to deter air strike on North Sea fleet. After you take Norway you should have a US BB, US DD(If it survived rnd1), loaded UK carrier, and five trannies in total. German air and remaining subs if any will be hard pressed to engage that fleet.

RE: Movies to watch while playing AA
A little love to the pacific theater, AMC had Tora Tora Tora, and Midway back to back on Sunday, had to tell the GF it was a stay in Sunday.

I live right in the middle of Chi-town baby, if anyone is interested in a game.

RE: Italian Strategies
IMO building a tranny 1st round is paramount for Italy. You need to shuffle more then just 2 units in order to achieve your NO’s and contest with Britian in Africa in round 2.

RE: Movies to watch while playing AA
A Bridge Too Far should do the trick as well

RE: Germany Basic Strategies, Concepts and Ideas
After that, if the canadian fleet is still there as well, you can espect a landig in france with a tank, 2 inf, and art, along with BB support and a loaded carrier for trny support for the NO

RE: Germany Basic Strategies, Concepts and Ideas
I have found leaving that BB afloat creates a very bad situation. When I am the Allies and I still have that BB, I drop a carrier and send american planes, after that Germany has little chance of dismantling the fleet, they can ill afford to spend money to just take down that fleet, it completely turns the game around if that BB is still alive.

RE: Given KGF, where & how many ICs should J build
Jenn did you mean Kiangsu and Manchukuo factories with Japan push though “china” instead of Africa? Because thats a lot of map to cover from the Northern pacific.
