RE: SIGN OFF HERE WHEN YOU GET YOUR COPY!
Got it tonight! Set it up on the kitchen table and just droolled for a while. The game itself was a blast to play but I found all the previous complaints to be true, however not too tough to work around. I really really REALLY like the tac bombers. The game feels like there is a ton of depth to it but at half past eleven I had to call it quits. Japan wound up with everything but Hawaii and San Fran…
I let my three year old roll the not so nice dice that came with the game (kept him amused) and played with my star wars dice (basically a nice set of velvet chessex). Borrowed chips and IPCs from Revised. The battle strip shouldn’t even have been included with the game. It was tough keeping track of some the newer rules like NOs. I was happy just to find boxes for each country because my copy of revised still has old fishing tackle boxes and plastic baggies for storage…

RE: Patton's Panthers
That was a good flick- probably is a book somewhere…

RE: Getting extra pieces?
Still waiting for my copy in the mail. Some on who posted on the Forums at Harris game design had an interesting idea to deal with missing pieces- he just used parts from the Guadalcanal game and AAM to fill in the gap. I think I may follow that example because the infantry and aircraft miniatures are just the right size and pretty neat looking.

Patton's Panthers
I just finished this book today. Overall I found it an interesting read. It was also a fairly quick read. the book covered the story of the 761st Tank Battalion which was comprised mostly of African Americans (although some of the officers were not). The book shows men struggling against not just the trials of warfare but racism. While some of the racial tensions were rare on the battlefield they were common in areas away from the front lines, most notably in some reports and field hospitals.
While some of the battle descriptions were pretty harrowing and the book presented a good broad picture of the fighting in general, I came away wanting more. The people in the book that stand out the most were Col. Paul Bates, a private named E. G. McConnell, and a tank commander Sergent Warren Crecy. McConnell was some poor 16 year old kid from up north who clutched a prayer book throughout most of the war. Bates turned down a promotion to return to command of the 761st after being wounded. Crecy was just all around tough. There were a lot of other characters in the book but those three were the ones that stand out the most for me.
I was wondering if anyone on the forums knew of any other books that cover some of the same material but in more detail.

RE: Our favorite game quotes
Also check if any of the allied players has occupied Japan’
Heh Heh funny. I have pulled a sneak occupation of Japan in the past. It usually involved my buddy’s strategery getting interrupted by either his wife or one of the cats……Nothing like a blasted cat to ruin your thought process. They are even worse than a three year old kidlet. He never even knew I was headed there. I also pulled the trick with Germany sneaking up from Persia into Moscow…
Those games sometimes involve either staying up all night and/or over indulgence in chocolate or oatmeal stouts.

RE: IL's cute pets thread
I don’t need critters to attack me. I have an 11 month old and 3 year old. Half the time it takes me twenty minutes just type a sentence with them awake….keep getting interrupted and by the time they crash well I don’t last much longer. :S

RE: Best 100pt army
I am kind of limited on pieces but so far I kinda like
Germany:
Tiger 1 56
Mg 42 10
Panzerfaust 2x 5
Mauser Kar 3x 3
Panzershreck 7
SS Haupsturm… 7Only 99 pts- I could swap the Tiger for less costly Armor…
USA
Red Devil Cap. 2x 7
M1 Garand 2x 4
Bazooka 2x 4
M4A1 Sherman 3x 21
M5 Halftrack 7100 pts could swap out the half track for something - art maybe…
Gonna try these two against each other tonight after dinner table gets cleaned off (messy 11 month old trashes the table)
Seems like the only popular minis games out here are Warcraft like stuff. Occaisionally they have flames of war or star wars at the local game store but I keep missing em.The shermans got annihilated. It looked like an German victory was imminent until both sides got wiped out when the youngest tipped the card table over…At least the soda was on the desk. I was a little surprised by the shermans getting taken out- the panzerfaust’s managed to disrupt two (One of those got taken out by the panzershreck) and that tiger just rolled over everything. Kinda new at the miniatures stuff…

RE: We appreciate the grandness of global game but
They would probably only make 50 copies or something :P
How many total copies of AA50 were produced?

RE: Favorite World War II book Ficiton or Non-fiction?
Very Tough Call…
For Nonfiction-
Cornelius Ryan’s The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far
Atkinson"s books right after that.
There are so many good and great books that is pretty tough to list them all.Fiction:
I haven’t read much fiction about WW2 I enjoyed actually (Unless you count Jeff Shaara’s books which I enjoyed immensely).
I have read some of Turtledove’s books and while I was interested in them at first I eventually lost interest. -
RE: Bases and others stuff in a world of Plastic
WOTC ought to hire you…
It is amazing what a determined and innovative mind can come up with.
I intend to go a similar route creating an ad hoc version of AA50. The global game might be better but it also might be too complicated to really have fun playing (especially when you have driven 8 hours to hang out- we tend to wind up going off fishing)…

RE: The Liberation Trilogy
Hoped it would be sooner. I thought the first two books were excellent. The last time I checked his site they didn’t have the date posted yet.

Star Wars Humor…
These are both a good laugh. I didn’t see em on the forum but thought they were worth sharing.

RE: List your top five games. (in order)
Video Games
1. Lord of the Rings Online
2. Medieval Total War 2
3. Final Fantasy 7 and 8
4. Empire Total War (enjoyable but hard on the pc)Board Games:
1. Axis and Allies Revised (may soon change after trying the new Pac Theater and AA 50)
2. Chess
3.AandA Naval Miniatures (easy set up- quick game)Love the old D6 Star Wars Roleplaying Game. I like it better than everything on the list except perhaps LOTRO.

RE: Where do you live?
Reno, Nv- close enough to the Sierras for work and play.

RE: Tutorial
I really enjoyed the revised version more than the original or the first two theater games. Will there is quite a bit of material in the rule book once you get it down any other games will be easier and quicker to figure out. The game “felt” like you could do a lot more than the original game.
Revised is currently my favorite but I have the 1940 pac coming in the mail and missed out on AA 50.

RE: Can a newly captured Naval Base be used to repair a friendly ship?
Do you have to pay ipc’s to have your ships repaired? I know you have to pay ipcs to repair complexes in some of the versions. After a while they all seem to run together. I’ll have the pacific 1940 version in a few more day (yippie!), along with a copy of the Battlefield Bands greatest hits which will drive my mother in law nuts when she comes to visit. Heh heh……

RE: Best World War II movie?
The name of the American Civil War Sub was the Hunley. It had a spar torpedo. You can find a bit more out here.

The Liberation Trilogy
Any know if there is a release date for the third book in Rick Atkinson’s Liberation Trilogy? I enjoyed the first two and will need something new to read fairly soon.

RE: Favorite WWII Ship
My mistake. Thank you for correcting me. I haven’t seen the movie in years.
