      @Midnight_Reaper:

      Your file looks awesome to me.

      Thanks!

      @Midnight_Reaper:

      If you’re taking suggestions, might i suggest replacing the original “Italian” roundels (they’re actually for Iran, not Italy) and replacing them with correct pattern Italian roundels. The correct pattern swaps the green and the red, so that the red is on the outer ring.

      Yes this roundel is the current Iran one, but Italy did use this roundel since WW 1. They only started using the the red (outer ring), white, green (center) one in 1943 after the Southern part of Italy joined the Allies. But during the war they actually used a completely different design.

      So to my knowledge the correct roundel is this black and white roundel, closely followed by the one on the OOB game board. Simply because Italy hasn’t joined the allies yet in this game.

      Nonetheless with only three roundels that need replacing it is easy enough to make an extra variant.

    • Tjoek's A&A Anniversary OOB Map file (Updated March 23rd)

      Updated color enhancement, noise reduction and more cleanups
      LAST UPDATE: March 23rd 2019

      Hi all!

      It has been a while since I was active on this forum due to some personal struggles, but after seeing Young Grasshoppers video on the warped Anniversary boards I decided to step in and help the community to solve this issue. A couple of weeks ago I bought a second hand flatbed scanner which I modified to be able to scan large documents in multiple stages without the need of cutting the boards to pieces. This works great!

      A&A Anniversary OOB Maps

      I made 4 versions of the map (basically 2 versions and both with and without an IPC income tracker):

      • Standard out of the box (OOB) map
      • Same as above with IPC income tracker
      • Removed A&A artwork and replaced Italian roundels with correct ones
      • Same as above with IPC income tracker
        See below for the four corresponding map files.

      Please see my scan of the original game board with removed artwork and Italian Faces with 1/4 inch white border [400 dpi]:
      Download the A&A Anniversary with removed artwork and Italian Faces Map here
      preview
      NOTE: this file can be enlarged and can easily print up to 72 inch (250dpi)

      Same file as above but with an 1/3 inch white border and an 1 inch high IPC income tracker [300 dpi]:
      Download the A&A Anniversary with removed artwork and Italian Faces Map and IPC tracker here
      preview
      NOTE: if you scale this image the income tracker might look to big or to small. Just print it at 300 dpi which will result in a map 59.92 inch by 32.21 inch. Only then the tracker is 1 inch high

      Please see my scan of the original game board with 1/4 inch white border [400 dpi]:
      Download the A&A Anniversary OOB Map here
      preview
      NOTE: this file can be enlarged and can easily print up to 72 inch (250dpi)

      Work done

      What I’ve done so far (bold and italic items are either new our revisited):

      • Scanned the brand new boards in multiple files in 400 dpi resolution (1/3rd high resolution then YG’s Global 1940 map)
      • Stitched the 9 best files per board in a graphical editor
      • Combined the 3 boards into one map and photo-shopped the borders between the 3 boards
      • Retouched some stitching miss alignments
      • Retouched the largest dust particles and printing errors on my map
      • Fully retouched and corrected all stiching errors and small scratches and dust particles
      • Enhanced the colours and contrast
      • Reduced scanning noise
      • Added a 1/4 inch white boarder
      • Replaced roundels with the same but more vibrant artwork
      • Version with Italian Fasces
      • Version with 60 IPC tracker
      • Exported to *.png image so no loss of details as with *.jpg to preserve the highest possible quality
      • Re-positioned Honolulu to the right location
      • Flipped Iwo Jima to the right orientation
      • Removed non existing ‘Atlantis’ islands south of Philippines
      • Centered territory names
        • Germany
        • France
        • Kiangsu
        • Stanovoj Chrebet
        • Baltic States
        • Rhodesia
        • Egypt
        • Poland
        • Bulgaria Romania
        • SZ 15
      • Renamed “Anglo-Egypt Sudan” to correct “Anglo-Egyptian Sudan”
      • Added SZ 66 name to the Caspian Sea

      Stay tuned for more customizations like home made hit dice, my Litko based flight stands and my continuation on cleaning the Global 1940 Map.

      But for now: Enjoy the map! And please let me know what you guys think of the map file and what could be enhanced or improved.

      Cheers,
      Tjoek

      Just a quick update to let you all know this project is not dead. After some months out of the running I’m regaining energy and started working on this map again. Still some work to do, but I hope to be able to get you posted on a more regular basis.

      See my separate thread for my OOB map of Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition. This is what I’ve been working on the last week after contacting Young Grasshopper when I saw the problems with the warped boards on his Youtube channel.

      Sired, I just had another look at your nice card deck and I think I found a minor error. The NO for the US where they get 30 IPC when Japan makes an unprovoked dow should be Pacific only. The current card states Pacific / Global.

      Yes, I think I mentioned is a house rule of ours to add it into Global

      Thanks I must have missed that. Looking forward to your map file!

      You should be fine up till 100 inch wide. Note that the printed map quality will be slightly less quality up close, but you won’t be able to tell the difference during game play when you look across the whole map.

      Thanks EBard for putting in the effort to make these available to the community. I do have one request. Please move Calculatta out of set 3 into set 2, as Calcutta is an OOB original Victory City.

      Looking forward to see the models ‘shape up’

    • RE: Sea Bottom Axis & Allies 23 September 2017!

      Funny thing is that this event seems to have networked three different groups of players through individuals attending TripleA Xrays event. I’m confident this will result in more games with a broader group of players.

      For me definitely an eye opener that there are more die hard AA fans closes then I expected  :-D

      @CWO:

      @Tjoek:

      @R DiStefano: you have the German flag wrong. The Swastika should be close to the flag pole instead of close to the other side.

      Actually, shouldn’t the swastika disc be in the middle of the flag rather than off-center?  If so, the which-side-of-the-flagpole issue solves itself.

      Depends on what flag you want. The flag from Hitler’s Nazi party is centered, but they used an off centered one (closer to the pole) as the flag for the German Reich itself. As such I would opt for the off center one.

      I trying something similar with semi gloss photo paper as well. It prints nicely.

    • RE: I Can't Repair My Battleships!

      I always interpreted the rule as if you simply had no cash and cannot spend it on anything. So to me BB repairs would still be possible, but I was wrong (never happened at our games anyways as far as I can remember)

      But with the split UK economy the rules as they should be interpreted are even more strange to me. Anyways: good original question and good follow on question about the UK. Let’s see what Krieghund’s view is on this matter.

    • RE: The Return of Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition

      @Young:

      @CWO:

      @reloader-1:

      Your “rare” cruiser is from the 1941 edition.

      There are no cruisers in the 1941 game.  YG is referring to the early version of the Hipper-class cruiser sculpt, which had a transom stern (meaning a square back part).  It first appeared in Anniversary, and I think it was also used in Europe 1940.1.  The later version of the German cruiser sculpt has a cruiser stern (meaning a pointy back part).  My theory is that the sculpt was redesigned to avoid confusion with destroyers, since most A&A destroyers have transom sterns.

      Yes, the German cruiser I’m referring to has a square back stern, however, I personally never got them confused with destroyers because of their bow shaped width. The only reason why I would question your theory about why they changed those German cruisers, is because the later ANZAC cruiser vs destroyer sculpts causes the same confusion they maybe tried to avoid earlier.

      Don’t forget the confusion between the French destroyer and cruiser. They will be gone early in the game, but the both have the square stern.

      For me personally I hope all the sculpts are exactly the same as 1940.2 Just for the sake of mix and match.

    • RE: RULE CLARIFICATION: Italy DOWs Moves to E. Poland - Germany Moves Doesn't DOW

      I agree with YG. I myself learned two important things today:

      • that this italian can opener into Russia is legal

      • thanks to GHG’s youtube contribution that I should definitely check the FAQ on the forums as I have two first print second edition rule books

      Nice idea to use flags to represent the different victory cities. When a city is captures you can simply swap the flag stand for one with the current owners flag.

      edit - it wont let me post links. on boardgame geek, search for axis and allies 1940 europe and click on the file link. look at the files posted by Ghetty called Global Axis National Objectives and Global Allies National Objectives

      Thanks for sharing this bigfruits. (you can start sharing links after you’ve posted a minimum of 10 posts I think).

      Another option for tracking the NO’s is using the card decks from either Young Grasshoper or Siredblood. See their threads for more details:

    • RE: Tjoek's 1940 Global Map file and setup charts (Updated May 30th 2018)

      Quick update to you all. 6 months have passed, but not without progress on the map! I’ve fixed all lands / islands except for America on the pacific board. This work took forever to complete, but I’ve learned a lot on this journey and will retouch some of the things on the european side as well. Especially better contrast on country names.

      I’m currently battleing my way through the pacific to minimize the visible lines of where the scans have been stitched together. See this image as a reference of what I’m talking about.

      Please note I’ve also:

      • aligned sea borders better and in straight angles

      • moved Honolulu to where it should be

      • flipped Iwo Jima to it’s right orientation (inspired by Intrepred’s great work)

      • it’s still WIP as you can see from the dark line running north of Wake Island and through Hawaii

      Let me know what you think!

      If you aren’t dead set on metal Litko mini flight stands are great. Mine just came in and look awesome.

      I can confirm the Litko stands are really great. I ordered them a few weeks ago and they come in a multitude of different heights as well. Great to distinguish fighters from bombers for example.
