    • RE: Printing a map

      @Locke888:

      In 1st edition map sea zone 5 is connected to Korea. This map is not which leads me to believe its 2nd edition. What is the territory change for Canada? I have the 1st edition board in front of me but my 2nd edition is at in-laws house.

      The scans on which this map is based are from a 1st edition version of the boards, but the have been changed to include all the important 2nd edition changes:

      • border between Alberta and Central US

      • border between Quebec and New Brunswick

      • correction so that SZ 5 does not border Korea

      • SZ 10 border adjusted to end at Mexico instead of end of map (real 2nd edition map has Mexico elongated to end at sea border)

      So the only real thing not fixed besides some typos is the fact that the two territories mentioned earlier are merged into Western Canada. But from a game play perspective that doesn’t really bother at all.

    • RE: Strange plays in your games

      Situation
      Germany was building up for a Sea Lion in Sea Zone 112 with 10 loaded transports, a battle ship and some destroyers. Instead of London he sailed north of the Nordics to amphibious assault Leningrad. His fleet was not that well protected so Russia decided to scramble three fighters which Germany had simply overlooked.

      Where it really goes wrong
      During the resulting combat Germany ends up with only a damaged battleship left (and off course it’s invasion force on 10 transports) and Russia still one fighter left. At this point Germany decides to retreat to Sea Zone 126.

      The Result
      Strategic bombers from London finish the job and sink the damaged battleship and all 10 loaded transports  :-D

      Hi Mukremin, it seems where both from the Netherlands and I’m curious which print shop you used.

      I haven’t come across a shop that prints on vinyl, but it seems that most do print on PVC material for outdoor banners which might be comparable to vinyl.

    • RE: Standardization of Dice Colors

      We use white, yellow, orange and red in that order from 1 to 4.
      The higher the number the darker the dice are, but I know this color scheme might not be the best from color distinction point of view. Nontheless it works flawlessly for our group.

      Another option I thought about was following the colors from the chips (we use blue chips for 10s). That way it is easy to understand what color to pick knowing the colors for the chips:
      white (close to grey), green, red, blue in that order from 1 to 4

      I’ll post some pics later after I get home.

      Please do, sounds like a simple but very effective way of mounting and hanging the board.

      @Young:

      Would it be possible to share with us a file with the Italian fascist roundel on the map with the income tracker?

      Not a problem at all YG, see my updated first post!

    • RE: Tjoek's 1940 Global Map file and setup charts (Updated May 30th 2018)

      Some good progress on the map today. I’ve finished most of the country name centering and started with the adjacent to indicators on the sea zones on the edge of the map and I’m dying to hear what you guys thinks of my adjacent to attempt.

      Mongolia cleaned and centered

      Sea zones adjacent to test
      Original map from Ambilzi and YG

      My personal attempt at a more clean and easy on the eye solution

      @SeekAndDestroy:

      Has anybody printed one of these yet and have an idea of the cost and where to take the file to have it done? Not a fan of the 3 pieces sliding apart plus mine are starting to warp.

      Reading this thread you might find that Nowhere Man, Young Grasshopper and 2Huskies have printed the map. I think both NM and YG have posted the cost for their map in this thread as well.

      Unfortunately I haven’t printed my map yet. So I cannot tell you myself.

    • RE: What is your most-purchased unit?

      This is a tough question as it really depends on the nation(s) you’re playing, but overall everyone can use good old infantry. Besides that it depends but in naval battles the aircraft carrier is really useful. And you can never go wrong with a nice stack of bombers (unless they are your only defense…)

    • RE: What is your least-purchased unit?

      For us the Cruisers and Battleships are never build and the AA guns only rarely when the situation arises that you face heavy aircraft attacks such as Japan going heavy on Calcutta.
      Then 1 AA gun might be better then 1 Inf as you get the possibility to kill up to three planes without them fighting against you at all.

      I’ve moved the 4 just 2 pixels to the left in the original file and now it looks more centered. Anyone with a sharp eye that thinks it’s not?  :-D

      @robert:

      after importing it into Illustrator, I found the 4 is off. It is too far right within the circle. This is what is throwing me off.

      I didn’t see it before, but you’re right. The optical weight of the 4 is to far to the right in the circle. In noticed this is the case for all 6 territories with IPC value four. I will correct this as my OCD cannot unsee it now I know it’s there  :-D

      Nice to see the map on your table. I really like how the colors match the wooden wash of your table. Well done.

      And I really like your convoy and especially your kamikaze tokens on your map.

      @siredblood:

      I have to go with yes, I didnt dare to try and scratch my actual board

      I would call you mad if you did  :-D

      @siredblood:

      , but I did try to grind my nails into my test one, and nothing happened, while I can for sure tell you it damaged before without…. I cant speak for any success with other variables… but from what I printed on and the spray I used was a win.

      When I got my maps, I was told it dont scratch… so to varify we tried to scratch one of their demos… he was surprised how easily it scratched, thus why I got a free print to test to make it more resistant… but ya, you gotta clear coat it.

      Thanks for the confirmation. I will look into a good mat clear coat.

      @Nowhere:

      Okay… per request, here’s pictures of Tjoek’s AA50 OOB map file, printed up…

      Really awesome to see that map! Especially with the original boards on top.

      Thanks for sharing this with us Nowhere Man.

      To everyone else considering printing my scan of the map, please share your results with this great community.

      Thanks for the feedback!

      I’ve moved the text for Northern Italy a bit more to the top right (giving the italian roundel some more distance from the beaches  :-)) and double checked the positioning of the 4. This was only 1 pixel off so I fixed that to, but this small difference is not be visible on the previous image so it most likely is some optical illusion close to the Swiss border.

      To me this looks way better now:

      @siredblood:

      I read or watched a YG vid where he mentioned about printed maps scratching, I just clear coated one of mine before I show a setup, will be dry for sure by the time I get home after work, so pics tonight :) …. when I ordered my 6 maps, they made an additional one for free for me to test on, which I sprayed last night, which you cant even tell… cant show that map as I cut it into 4 pieces so I would be able to run 4 tests… turns out test 1 was good

      Does that extra coat make a huge impact on scratch resistance? I’m looking to get my nearly finished Global map printed, but cannot find a local print shop that does laminating at all. So sealing the print myself might be the best solution.

    • RE: Pacific Allies should always attack Japan turn 2

      Interesting topic YG. We never attack Japan first as the allies, but we hardly see games where Japan waits for turn 3.

      But I see your points about the objectives and such, so will definitely try this if I get the opportunity.
