      Thanks for all the input Baron Munchhausen. I will look into this when I’ve finished my current todo list of recentering country names and some more stiches coverups that I’ve missed previously.

      I will certainly fix the skiy = sky and most likely the switch between Evenkiysky and Yenisey

      I like the idea of the setup cards! I might ‘steal’ it and use it for our own games. :-D

      Did you get your map laminated our protected in any other way against scratches?

      @Baron:

      I just want to let you know these OOB Map geographical inconsistencies in Siberia.
      Just in case you want to be accurate on names, not just strictly following OOB map.

      Thanks for letting me know Baron Munchhausen! It seems a never ending story. Do you have any online references I can look at?

      I had hoped to finish the map early this week, but I was forced to spend a few days in bed and on top of that found more country names to centered then I originally thought. Adding this to the list of things to do as well. So I hope to finish the map this month.

      @Afrikakorps:

      Do you never scramble against G1 attacks? If there are 3 fighters scrambling, battleship + cruiser, is it not a risky battle without full commitment.

      Generally speaking: no. That’s exactly why Germany needs to allocate enough forces to make it unattractive as well, unless you want them to, but that means Germany will lose valuable planes as well.

      No 50/50 battles  :-D

    • RE: Axis Victories (what's the "magic" trick?)

      Maybe you can elaborate a bit more on how you typically win in your games. What are you as Allies doing vs the Axis and why does it work. That might give us some more input to help you further and give other players the opportunity to learn from you.

      I have to admit I thought you were playing the game for 2 years (I misread it somehow)

    • RE: UK Ethiopian Opener

      @Afrikakorps:

      Do you not take Iran or the Money Islands as UK?

      If you go for Ethiopia you need the Indian transport so no Money Islands or Iraq (I assume you mean Iraq)

      @Afrikakorps:

      Do you usually combine it with Tobruk, or is Ethiopia the main attack?

      I never combine it with Tobruk as you cannot muster enough forces to attack both at sufficient odds. Never go for to many 50/50 battles but focus on what’s really important and make sure it works out.

      @Afrikakorps:

      Is the rest of the fleet used for Taranto?

      We use everything from SZ98 for Taranto.

      @Elsass-Lorraine:

      Always Taranto. Those Italian boats are unparalleled assets in the Med that need to be destroyed in my opinion. Ethiopia is also very important, it takes priority over Persia turn 1. I hope that answered your question, I was a little confused at what you meant.

      Agreed, without doing this you most likely retreat through the Suez Channel making it easy for Italy to close it by taking Trans Jordan, so you just gave them one NO for hardly any price.

    • RE: Axis Victories (what's the "magic" trick?)

      Our group started playing AA Global slightly over a year ago and faced a similar learning curve. The first game Japan was just passive only chipping away at China, afraid to provoke US. Our second game was a more aggressive Japan but still to conservative. We simply didn’t have a clue how to play Japan really aggressive…

      …until we found this forum and Young Grasshoppers Cliffside Bunker YouTube channel. The openings described in the playbooks already mentioned and visually explained on YouTube really helped speeding up our learning curve. But don’t be fooled by an opening strategy / move. It’s really up to you to live and play them through in consecutive turns. Next game was an all out victory of Japan, but the Allies play became better as well and after a few matches Japan wasn’t winning the game, and Germany neither.

      The next struggle we faced was how to be at the doors of Moscow in 5 turns to do a successful Barbarossa. Again these answers were found here and for our group this was mainly achieved by using Italian can openers, but Russia is getting more creative in counter measures so it becomes less of an easy move for Germany.

      Our current learning stage (around game #8 - 10) is ensuring US and UK can do a joined landing in Europe quick enough to prevent Germany to win the game while at the same time balance an aggressive Japan before it get’s out of control.

      So long story short:

      • The information on this forum and the YouTube channels of multiple members is very rich

      • Remember that this game is not about opening moves only, but it’s important how the game after turn 1 is played

      • As soon as one strategy works it’s often hard to find a new counter for it within the same group

      • Try to play a game with a different group to get new experiences and insights, this really boosted our level of game play a few times

      @bgugs:

      It was $49.99

      That seems like a decent price tag, although I have no experience with Affinity Designer. But from the looks of it, it’s a nice tool.

      @jeffcamis:

      I determined the biggest size that would fit on my dining room table would be 28 inches by 51 inches.  Can I go to a print shop have them down a map and print it in that size?

      You definitely can print the map I shared with the community (look at 2Huskies link) at this size.

      @SS:

      @Nowhere:

      If his dining room table is 28"x51" he’s best off just reprinting the map at OOB size of 24"x46"… if the map were centered on his table, he’d only have about two inches to spare on any side… not counting anything else,  like a place to roll dice, set down army trays, battle boards, etc, etc.

      No No No you tear down the wall thats in the way and get a 4 x 8 map !  :-D

      He would still have the same table…  :-D

    • New member registration impossible

      Hi All,

      A friend of mine made me aware of the fact that no new members can register to the forum due to the Captcha service being unavailable. This is what the current captcha looks like:

      It looks like an admin needs to point to the new captcha URL.

      I’ve send a PM to djensen two days ago, but haven’t received a reply yet. He might be busy hence my post on the forums to see if someone is able to fix the problem.

    • RE: Printing a map

      @Smoke_Bomb_Ninja:

      I am looking for a good global 1940 map that I can print as a single piece.

      Luckily there are a few fellow forum members working on different versions of the Global 1940 map, including myself  :-)

      Young Grasshopper has a list of Global 1940 maps
      https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=41411.0

      Siredblood just finished his complete artwork redesign of the map
      https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=39013.0

      Tjoek (aka myself) am about to release my cleaned up version of the scans that Young Grasshopper lists
      https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=39379.0

      So there are quite some options available (and I’m sure I’ve missed some others out there) to print your own Global 1940 map.

      Your welcome, and thanks for sharing your printed map with the community! I will add your version as a special to the first post when I’ve a bit more time at hand.

    • RE: Tjoek's 1940 Global Map file and setup charts (Updated May 30th 2018)

      @robert:

      I like it, much cleaner and still gets the point across.

      @Nowhere:

      Very nice changes… i really like the cha

      @siredblood:

      I like it better, nice and clean, great idea… too bad I added the adjacent crap to mine

      Thanks guys! I won’t be changing these adjacency markings.

      In fact I’ve been busy working on some final adjustments like realigning the Convoy and Kamikaze tokens with the SZ numbers (it turns out the enhanced icons are worse aligned then the OOB positioning on the original map). I’ve managed to fix the last issues I had with the map and have two final things to do:

      • Roundels: replace those with more vibrant artwork and change the OOB Italian onces with the Faces

      • Color balance: change the color balance two get more vibrant colors on the map as a whole

      So stay tuned as I expect to release a few versions of the map  next week. Finally after 14 months of working on this map it is really nearing completion.

    • RE: Standardization of Dice Colors

      @Marshmallow:

      @AndrewAAGamer:

      It does not take much time to grab eight dice and roll 1s, then fourteen dice and roll 2s then grab 6 dice and roll 3s.  It is easy to count the number of dice needed to roll and then roll them looking for just one result.

      This, in my opinion, is the fastest way to roll dice.

      Marsh

      Just curious, have you ever played with hit dice? For us it really speeds up game play.
