Global 1940 Customizations: Custom Map, Table, Storage, Battle Board, Chips, Roundels and moreposted in Customizations
Hey everyone,
Sharing my global game now that i’ve spent a good amount of effort customizing it.-
Custom Map:
I traced @Tjoek 's map in a website program called “inkarnate” and colored it myself. Then in Gimp I added roundels and labels to everything again using Tjoek’s roundels page for the base roundels. The map is just a tad larger than the OOB map as I unforuntly don’t have a huge space for the setup table. I really like the way it turned out visually as I love the more simple look. This was printed at 200dpi (a little low imo) from an online service in the US called Smartpress on .40 Styrene. It cost $150.00 shipped.

-
Custom Table:
Table is built out of 2x4’s and plywood. Nothing fancy just a big flat surface. -
Custom Chart Board/magnetic roundels:
A small magnetic white board with my custom charts printed on vinyl applied to it. The magnetic roundels are my design as well and are 3d printed.
-resized.jpeg) -
Battle Board:
3d printed base with a vinyl printed sticker on top designed by me. It incorperates the tech units and combined arms into it. -
Money Chips:
These are just cheap chips from amazon and I use white for 1 green for 2 red for 5 and blue for 10. Way nicer in the hand than paper money. -
Magnetic Units:
Small magnets 3x1mm glued to almost all planes (japan tac bombers needed the larger 3x2 because of the wheels) using ca glue and activator to set them up quickly. A lot of work to get them all done but very rewarding. Carriers got holes drilled and 3x2 magnets inserted as close to the surface of the deck as I could to get the planes to stick nicely to them.

-
Flight Stands:
These are made from 3mm thum nuts and 3mm acrylic rod. I designed a number of jigs for accurate cutting, gluing and magnet gluing to get them as cleanly done as possible. They have a 3x2mm magnet glued to the top. -
Storage:
All of the unit storage boxes are custom designed to hold chips and roundels nicely. My original designs allowed for all of the bins to fit back in the game boxes but for ease of use I eneded up making more boxes/changing the shape so they no longer would go back into the game boxes.

-
Troop Placards/Placard Markers:
These are a 3d printed base with another label applied to them. I did crop/adjust the flags so they would all be the same dimensions and I took a lot of liberty with the Anzac one (AUS and NZ mashed up). The markers are the same flag just double sided and small enough to fit into territories nicely.

-
Facilities and Neutral Troops:
All of the facilities are of my design and are all 3d printed with a .2 nozzle. I did keep them small so they didn’t occupy too much board space. The neutral troops are nice as they blend into the space but still represent the troops in a tactile way.

-
Roundels:
These are just a simple 20mm circle 3d printed with a 19mm laminated sticker attached. These were punched with a “3/4 paper punch”. Very time consuming but the result is hard to argue with.

Global 1940 Deluxe Edition: Megathread & Change Logposted in Customizations
Starting a new post here for my on going custom ruleset for Global 1940. I will include my rule changes, house rules and some game reports as I playtest. I will also upload screen shots of my custom map as I make adjustments to it.
The overall goal of this custom ruleset is to expand the economy, add more strategy options, include oil as a resource (new POI’s on the map) and change the win condtions to give clear steps toward victory.
Here is the med on my custom map. I’ve adjusted all teams IPC’s by approximatly 10% as you can see Morocco is up to 2IPC and Southern Italy is up to 4.
Work in progress Trans Siberian RailroadNo games played on the new map yet as this is still an early work in progress.

RE: Custom Magnetic IPC & Tech Tracker Boardposted in Customizations
@The-Captain
I used 3mm thumb nuts drilled out to fit 3mm acrylic rods. I used a number of 3d printed jigs for cutting the rods, assembly of the stands and gluing the magnets. If I remember later I’ll attached some pictures of the jigs/stands -
Customized Axis and Allies Anniversary Gameposted in Customizations
Hey everyone,
I finished customizing my copy of AA50 and wanted to share what I’ve done.- Custom painted pieces, I painted every nation to unify each nations color scheme as the OOB pieces have a lot of color variation. I have included a picture of the different paint color/products used. The only big change was Germany from black to gray as I wanted my new oil pieces to stand out.

- Custom tracker boards and magnetic roundels. I designed and printed the labels on sticker paper, laminated and applied them to metal sheets. I modeled and printed the bases they stand in as well. The magnetic roundels are my design as well with the same method applied for the stickers.

-
Oil. I modeled and printed the oil barrels and derricks myself and have been working on some house rules to include them in the game to add some strategy and more money to the board.
-
Roundels, I 3d printed the chips and applied the stickers. The image file is on this site somewhere and I will comment with the link, I did have to modify and convert the file a bit to make it workable but it includes the fuel and breakthrough images as well. These are all double sided and stand out much nicer on the map
!- Flight stands, I made these with my own design from 3mm acrylic rods and 3mm thumb nuts. I designed a number of 3d printed jigs for cutting the rods and gluing the magnets and rods and bases together. I may be listing these for sale if I can get the process streamlined enough to make them competitive in pricing.

- Magnetic planes and carriers. I drilled and magnetized all of the planes and carriers to make them much easier to pick up. The carrier magnets are strong enough to go through one chip which is great.

- Custom storage trays. I designed and printed trays for the nations (us has an extra slot for the china troops) and for the storage boxes to add better organization and more slots for storage.

That’s all the main things I did! Please let me know if you guys have any questions about anything.

@vodot I did look through the thread and I’ve come up with a rule set unlike anything there I believe. I’m still play testing and might change them farther for balance.

RE: [AA50/Anniversary] Modular Map Overlays - Splitting Australia, the Balkans, and Sea Zones; adding Cairo, Malaya, Singapore, Rio, Cape Town, Recruitment Centers and tons more!posted in Customizations
@vodot I have printed and assembled a bunch of your overlays on my map! They look great and I’m excited to play test them. Would you be able to make an overlay for a carved out Scotland territory on the Uk? The fix for Hokkaido is awesome so the US can actually land stuff there. Would be cool to see the same for the UK to give a sealion a possibility in this game.
I made these by printing on Matte Vynil sticker paper and applying it to a 3d printed shape .5mm thick so they should be durable. I blue tacked them straight to the board.

@vodot No rush at all! I’m sure by then I’ll have cooked up some other hair brained scheme to waste my time on this game :D I should spend my time just playing instead! Anyway ill include some thoughts about a game I’m playing with a friend here after the game is over to see how the overlays affect play. I also did come up with a setup modification rule set for the set of overlays I applied which I will send to this thread soon.

@vodot So far in our testing game its been really great with the overlays. The Hokkaido landing zone is a great threat for Japan as they actually need to keep navy near japan instead of running away south. The Island splits on Borneo and East indies make the play there much more dynamic as the uk has more opportunities to recapture/harass Japan. Chinas extra territories work well and my updated rules to add artillery have balanced them out well I think. I would be super stoked if someone else would play with the ruleset as I find it much more fun than the OOB game. The extra money and strategy from the oil rules is super fun.

Battle deckposted in Customizations
Hey axis and allies family. I wanted to share a new custom battle deck I made inspired by sired bloods spoils of war deck. I made these cards in inkarnate and gimp. They are made to modify the game randomly so each game has a little flair to it. Some of the cards are made to mesh my with custom house rules which include oil and air transports. Let me know what you think!
I do apologize for the AI art.

RE: Battle deckposted in Customizations
@vodot I haven’t play tested anything yet. Just a fun weekend project. I should be able to adjust the cards super easy through the program I used to make them. I will attach xcf files this afternoon. Thanks!

@vodot I have combined your overlays onto the Tojak map. I think it turned out great! I’m planning on getting it printed soon. I uploaded it here but at horrible quality as the site limits are extremely low. I have it in full quality if anyone wants it.

@Argothair I think Vodot likes making the overlays/modifications hahaha. I agree with your premise about the extra territories being useful to a point. He’s done a lot of really good ones in relevant combat zones including china, south pacific, and the med which has worked really well in actual games I’ve been playing on the map.

@vodot I just finished the game we started on the updated map and it went well! Besides me being too agressive and loosing germany to the uk 4 times over 5 rounds of play and eventually resigning… The map changes were great, Italy grew to a really strong power and was able to contribe a lot to the game. I will write up a post with my optional rules in depth to try to show it off. I think the game feels way better with a expanded economy.
