    • Let's talk Veterans!

as i lay awake thinking about axis and allies (this happens a little too often), i wondered if there was a way to work in veteran units?

my very brief idea was to have 4 or 5 units with some kind of mark on them (let’s say a dash over the turret if it were a tank). a unit becomes a veteran when it survives a certain amount of conflicts

once a unit becomes a veteran, the unit gets an improved stat. this stat can differ from each type of unit

      ideas? thoughts?

    • RE: What We Want the Next AA boardgame to be.

i voted other, just because i agree with everyone who has mentioned a game that starts at at the begining of the war

i’d probably lean towards starting it just after poland has been invaded, so the norway debacle hasn’t occured yet. failing that, just before france in attacked through the neutral states. the normal a&a ruleset should be fine, but some sort of diplomacy rules should be introduced, as well as rules for attacking and invading neutrals

if diplomacy is too complex, you could always make some kind of rule that keeps russia and america neutral until they are attacked, a certain number round is reached, or they have a list of reasons they can go to war and can do so once one of these is met. until that time they only get half or less of their IPC count to show they aren’t gearing towards war

there could be convey zones again, oil zones, neutral countries can have their own water zones, which are out of bounds unless you want to beak their neutrality or they allow you to (spain for germany)

obviously it would be a more complex game, but most of us enjoy spending multiple, multiple hours with our board games

    • RE: Lets Talk Partisans!

partisans could not be expected to take back their country/capitol during ww2. it just wouldn’t work. as IL said, they disrupted logistics and communications

keeping in mind that just because an occupying nation had no army units in the territory, doesn’t mean you can forget about the police, security personel, all the people required to run the captured nation, and so forth

    • RE: A&A: 1942 Edition

i agree completely. why give the AA50 (the a&a game to beat all a&a games apparently) sub-par sculpts, and set the RRP at $100, then bring out another version of revised with BETTER unit sculpts and set its RRP at $35?! someone should be taken out the back and shot for this

    • RE: Wreck of the first American vessel sunk during World War II has been found

i’d heard of the grave site a few times before now

i did a little research, and found that the ship that laid the mines was a captured norwegian tanker. the germans changed the name of the boat from ‘storstad’ to ‘passat’. sneaky germans
