    • RE: Which nation could be played by a 8 year old?

i agree with Big. either america, as being that player gives you time to think. or italy, as they’re small and have a limited amount of options at the start

making him russia would throw him head-first into the game, and you’d probably end up telling him what to do … hopefully he’d listen or quick game though  :-D

yeah, apparently two prototypes saw combat, Moses, but they were over-run by the russians and destroyed/captured

    • RE: 41?…42?..Nos?....Tech?....

really? i read the rulebook from cover to cover when i first got it, and have played two games, and i feel like i know the rules well enough (after checking one or two things in the forum of course)

mind you, i’ve even had dreams about this game, so maybe i’m just obsessed? …

    • RE: What set up favours each one for the axis?

i just voted from my own experience of just setting-up the game once for each game (41 and 42)

you do realise that the maus was merely a prototype tank, and saw combat once? you’d have been better putting the panzer 4, tiger, or kingtiger in, and these saw much more combat

    • RE: Plastic Playing Pieces

i don’t think you seem to understand, Con. , that people are only expecting better because this game is:

      a) expensive

and b) supposedly this is a special edition to mark the 50th anniversary of AH

if this was just another version worth $60 or so, then no worries

maybe someone can come up with some kind of petition we can all sign, then send off to wizards? worth a try anyway

    • RE: Transporters - hostile sea zones?

keep in mind that this new rule about transports was made to stop people using them as canon fodder. not to be realistic

ta for that. we were wondering about it in a game last night, but ended up going with waiting a turn to unload. glad we were right

    • RE: Plastic Playing Pieces

i don’t think the pieces are overly bad …

but this is supposed to be a special 50th anniversary edition. you’d think they could at least make the detail on the moulds as reasonable as the last few releases, or maybe something new and better

obtaining some metal pieces would definitely take the game to another level of awesome  8-)

hey all, new to the board. just wanting to clarrify with a question cowboybob, as this situation arose the other day in a game:

italy had one transport in the sea zone down from rome (is it 14?). germany also had one there. on italy’s turn, can they bridge units using both its transport and germany’s, landing them both on the african province opposite? or can this only be done with italy’s transport, making it wait until the next round before unloading its units from the german transport?

    • RE: After Action Reports

i’ve been reading these forums for a couple of weeks now, so thought i should register and make a post!

some friends and i played a small game last week, just to get a feel for it. this game following was the first proper one with the new AA50A though

      Title:  wehrmacht wallop
      Date:  2nd of December
Special Rules:  used NO’s, but no tech developments, 1942 setup
      Victor:  axis, by allied concession
      Game Length:  2 rnds
Bias: skill was split down the middle. allies just had some terrible roles with the dice
Description: japan pushed into china, and sunk any allied navies it could reach. russia went defensive from the start. germany pushed for moscow but did a little uk-navy sinking on the side. uk set up defences in india, attacked africa. italy pushed into africa, sunk a combined uk and us fleet. america attacked japan, began setting up for bombing runs into germany.
basically, germany (myself) got some very great roles, where russia did not. germany destroyed all 8-10 of the russian defenders in moscow, while only taking two casualties themselves (from a force of about 12, although can’t recall exact numbers of units).
Observations/Recommendations: i feel russia is at a disadvantage from the start due to having to defend 3 industrial spots (this has been covered in other threads). we will seriously consider adding one or two house rules for russia, but it definitely came down to the dice rolls. japan looks tough with its navy, but only having one transport does gives the allies some time to make a move. uk did build a factory in india, and held it nicely
