i think a point to remember is, if every player is a descent and observant one, then the game can be kept global. as soon as an opening is left by any player, his/her enemies should rush at it like a bull at a gate

RE: Naval Units: what is worth buying?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
a few house rules have been mentioned with subs in other threads
i think my favourites are one DD can detect and negate only one subs first strike and submerge, and the allies lose 1 IPC for every axis sub that is on the board at the end of each round

RE: Defender picks deathsposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
picking each target for each unit at the start of combat would just be ridiculously time consuming. IL is right, the only feasible way to do this would be to allow units to pick certain casulties if they role a 1
i don’t see why you’d want to change the ruling over casulties though. letting the players pick which of their units to remove is fine. otherwise there’d be no point building expensive units, because they’d get chosen as casulties asap!
and a game with a lot of infantry vs. infantry combat doesn’t take my fancy

RE: Play with National Objectives?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
you get a bonus for each. so if you’ve achieved 3 NO’s, you get the total of 15 sweet sweet IPC’s

RE: Plastic Playing Piecesposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
i agree with Strabala. the quality of the pieces for this game should be corrected before moving on to the next. this is supposed to be the special version to remember, right?
make some swish new pieces, get everyone to send a copy of their purchase invoice, then send them new pieces. the amount of thankful players would be abundant!

RE: AA50-1943posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
it was mentioned above that germany could be given some kind of ‘heavy tank’ rule. would this be a tech that has to be researched, would it become unlocked by a certain round, or would they just get it from the start?

RE: UK D-dayposted in 1941 Scenario
if you got very lucky, it may work. but you’re relying on too many 'what if’s
you have to assume that you will sink germany’s fleet in one go, germany won’t make a move on your fleet on its turn, and that germany doesn’t build any subs (as there’s no way you can get a destroyer into the german fleet on your first turn)
and then you have to take into account that the german player will know exactly what you’re going to do, and allocate defences accordingly
if i was germany, and i most often am, then i’d be allocating units to the defence of my coastlines from the start, and attacking the uk and us fleets whenever i got the opportunity. also keep in mind that the uk will have egypt and india to worry about - it wouldn’t be wise to ignore these just because you’re hoping to capture france

RE: Which nation could be played by a 8 year old?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
toblerone has a good point. play the original first if you have it
that was the first one i played, all those years ago. i was given us, and enjoyed building many bombers haha

RE: How to fix board warping problemposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
if you get some sort of thin wood/metal/plastic and cut it to size, the board should still fit nicely in the box. keep in mind that there’s a small gap between the lid of the box and where the contents reach to

RE: 42 russia defenseposted in 1942 Scenario
after playing as germany and steam-rolling into moscow on my second turn, i was a little shocked at how easy it seemed (mind you, the soviet player had some terrible, terrible roles), i’ve been mulling this question over myself
whenever my turn comes to play the red bear, i think i’ll be falling back from karelia (so only leaving a token defence there, or perhaps just not building/moving more units into it). if you position yourself to defend on the smallest amount of territories, then the german player generally has to deal with a couple more connecting territories, causing him to spread his defence. this means you can attack if you find an oppening, but otherwise keep your defences reasonably organised
of course, uk and us need to land some forces to assist russia asap. i’d rather take the negated 5 IPC bonus for the extra defence

RE: AA50-1943posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
1943 scenario would definitely be easier to set-up. at least working this one out first means that all the countries are still at war with each other
working out non-aggression pact for germany + russia, and american neutrality, would be something you’d want to tackle after being comfortable with re-placing units and territory control over the board (which is pretty much the main thing needed for a '43 campaign)

yeah, got to hate those players who always get the good roles haha

RE: Strategy: Bombs Over Berlinposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
i can see how you enjoy the statistical side of things, but it just doesn’t seem like a very good strategy. it isn’t fun, and japan could quite easily afford to repair any damage to its industry in captured moscow. So soon enough germany is liberated, and it becomes a long war of attrition
think of the fun side of things! devoted german player

anyone near sydney or central coast, nsw?
some friends and i love playing a+a, but i always beat them. need new challenges lol

RE: Strategy: Bombs Over Berlinposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
you’re of course assuming that the game goes for a long time, and japan doesn’t mop up the pacific with ease as both the uk and us are focused on europe, right?

AA50 biddingposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
after a quick skim i couldn’t see any topics checking this, so i thought i would
has anyone decided they still need the axis bidding with this version of the game? do we feel it’s more balanced? or is it still too soon to say?
or maybe a few people feel we need an allies bidding system now haha

RE: G U A R D - german submarine and air strategy for AA50posted in 1941 Scenario
i’ve always felt for germany to last an extra turn or two, they should attack any uk navies that are in range. subs + bomber/fighters can always reach something in the first round

RE: Transporters - hostile sea zones?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
well what’s stupid to you, may be smart for someone else
i guess if you don’t like it you could always use your own house rules and revert back to original rulings :-)
