      I am done with the revisions but I need to playtest a couple different scenarios and just set the game up.  I’m moving foward!

      @oztea:

      Canada would be its own power, or merged with ANZAC as the UK Common Wealth (so grey units )
      Finland will probably get an arctic coastline in the final version.

      As for what I find are shortcomings of the global 39 map….
      The ports and airbases printed on the map itself are kind of distracting.
      Obviously the convoy box system is outdated, and the raiding spaces in 1940 work much better in my opinion. The convoy boxes should be done away with.
      (except perhaps a special battle of the atlantic zone, however just placing CONVOY symbols with a ghosted US/UK/Canadian Roundel beneath would denote that the general treasury is raided from these north Atlantic sea zones.
      Rio De Oro is French (but should be Spanish) and gives the allies a port on mainland Africa
      Even if the combat move for ships is reduced to 2, US forces can stage in Quebec, and move directly to SZ 28 and land in Normandy

      For a scale comparison,see the attached image.
      North America, South America and Africa are all much bigger than they need to be, as is mainland Asia.

      Don’t get me wrong though, the map is good, I mean, hell…I bought one. But these few nagging issues have kept me from enjoying it to the fullest.
      The 1940 map has a really good scale to it I feel. Has much more room for ships in the pacific, and much more room on Europe for land combat.

      We have revised the 39 map and made Europe much larger as well as Africa along with the med, western Russian and even Britain. We also took away all of the NB and AB.  Check it out on HBG website. I will admit the first 39 map needed some changes.
        As far as the US staging in Canada. What would be the difference in them staging there or in the UK?  It would still be 2 turns to get a unit from the US to France.

      @oztea:

      Very observant Knp, but no printed air bases or naval bases.
      Smolensk is the other Russian city south of Leningrad.

      If it’s similar to global 39 thats fine with me. I own an 8x4 of that but there are some major flaws on it in my opinion. Scale, color and sea zones are all flawed in some way or another in my opinion.

      Oztea, please explain what you think the flaws are in the map? I can understand color! But, scale and sea zones?  Sea zones can easily be worked around if you take away NB advantage of 3 moves.  Make combat move 2 moves and NCM 4.

    • RE: Tigerman's Barbarossa Game now at HBG

      This is turn 9. The Germans were thinned out in the South and were defeated in a counter attack in the North right at the edge of Moscow. The second pic shows the remnants of the German forsce after ther Russian counter attack. On turn 10 Russia had the initiative and pushed the Germans back across the whole front.

      These are pics from my last play test. This is the end of turn 6. Keeping the supplies moving is the funnest part of the game in my opinion. The Germans were moving so good in the south but ran out of supplies in the north and had to wait.  In the second pic you can see the German reinforcements coming to the front lines, Heavy Armor, SS Grenadiers, and SS Panzers.

      Update on rule revision. We are in playtest mode and hopefully be done in 3 weeks. My regular job has me working 80 hours a week the next 2 weeks so be patient.  We are working on having 6.0 out in 3-4 weeks.  I know that’s a month late but we really want to make sure these rules are solid!

    • RE: DK's Strategic Bombing Rules - submitted for your review

      I like these rules!  My only critique would be interceptors roll a 1 to destroy a bomber and a 2 for an escort.  If no escorts then a 2 would hit a bomber.  Or if no escorts a 2 would make a bomber return.  Just another idea.  I like the extra accuracy rule!!

      I have one but I use a d12 system.  Lets be honest, with all these new units you will have to go to a d12 to make every unit worth purchasing!

      Make a house rule for detection and make all subs off board units unless detected.
      Destroyers and subs detect on a roll of 8 or less
      Cruisers detect on a roll of 4 or less

      @MrMalachiCrunch:

      Submarines can always hit undetected submarines.

      So a sub is almost as a good as a destroyer other than it cannot vector planes or battleships onto the undetected enemy sub and cost/firepower ratio is different?

      Yes.  Also when a sub attacks another sub it is normal combat(no first strikes).

      According to Tigerman when a sub attacks another sub it is normal combat (no first strike).
      I do not understand or agree with that rule, that is why I said I use the standard AA sub combat rules.

      Ok, if it is sub on sub and no other ships in the battle then which unit would get the first strike?  This is why sub on sub there is no first strike.

      The object is to keep your Capitol ships surrounded by DD’s and CA’s
      This also keeps the US from buying 10 transports per turn and pounding Germany or Japan with just infantry!

      That said, there is absolutely no point in building capitol ships in this game. Especially battleships, ever.

      I disagree with not buying carriers!  Specially the US!!  Battleships I can see your point, but remember the battleship was made obsolete by the carrier!

      Chill a little Garg! Let me explain my earlier senario. First: who would attack 1 sub with a sub and a cruiser?? A very inexperienced player. Second: I should have stated that afte the attacking sub is lost the round is over and the cruiser may retreat….and he should. I was just using this as an example of he subs not being included in detection for other vessels! If the sub and cruiser were to attack another sub and cruiser and the attacking sub was taken as a loss, then on the next round of combat **if the cruiser choose to stay and fight then the sub would get a first strike before the attacking cruiser.**

      So the cruiser can attack a submarine? because the sub becomes and undetected AFTER it fires?

      So basically, there is NO SUCH THING as combat with -undetected- submarines, unless it’s sub on sub.

      WOW - THANK YOU!

    • RE: SUBS Overpowered -and- SUB Clarificaitons

      @MrMalachiCrunch:

      I really need to reread the rules again.  Garg, destroyers do not negate sub first strike at all or just 1 to 1 on an enemy sub?

      Tigerman77, a sub+cruiser attacking another sub….the attacking cruiser cannot attack a defending sub without a 1-1 destroyer so the only reason to bring it along is for fodder?

      I could see if the attacker took of the sub foolishly…then the NEXT round the sub would get a first strike IF the attack were pressed a second round even tho the cruiser could not hit the sub, kind of like attacking a second round when the only thing remaining is transports where all the attack units were lost?

      It still makes subs a bit too good of a bargain for me.  No longer do you need destroyers to pick of marauding subs but a swarm of cheap subs yourself.  It could easily devolve into a war of attrition with subs.  Perhaps not a bad thing….  In any event, it changes many things.

      If 1 destroyer attacks 1 sub, there is no first strike for the sub.
      If 1 destroyer attacks 2 subs, 1 sub gets a fist strike on a roll of a 2 or less(not very strong)
      If 1 destroyer is attacked by 2 subs, 1 sub gets a first strike on a roll of 4 or less(5 or less for Germany)

      The object is to keep your Capitol ships surrounded by DD’s and CA’s
      This also keeps the US from buying 10 transports per turn and pounding Germany or Japan with just infantry!
