    • RE: Should units be able to be paradropped?

      Didn’t think about the lake thing!! These aren’t Navy Seals after all……with that in mind I would add;

      No lake can be designated the target hex (unrealistic)
      A lake could be a potential landing hex if the player so chooses to take that chance
      Units coming down in a lake are automatically destroyed

      In another thread here Grim also suggested having a chance to actually hit the chosen target hex (roll of 1-4). If the target is missed then you roll for an adjacent hex. I like personally like that so that makes it;

      Name a target hex. On a roll of 1-4 you hit the target hex.
      On a roll of 5-6 or if the stacking limit has been reached for the target hex;
      Designate one adjacent hex to be number 1 (with 2 thru 6 following around the target in a clockwise direction).
      Roll 1 die and place the trooper in the corresponding hex
      repeat for each trooper
      drop sticks are dictated by turn and must use the same target hex
      Troops landing in forest hex are automatically Disrupted
      No lake can be designated the target hex (unrealistic)
      A lake could be a potential landing hex if the player so chooses to take that chance
      Units coming down in a lake are automatically destroyed

    • RE: June 2006 D-Day Booster Pack

      @GrimJesta:

      there’s no new maps?

      -=Grim=-

      That is an assumption I am making based on the boosters not including any maps in the past. Since the booster pack box sizes appear to match all the previous releases I doubt any additional maps or map tiles will be coming.

      Check out this link to a forum post on this board for a company selling maps for this game;

    • RE: When did Diplomacy come out?

      I believe the first printing of Diplomacy was in 1959.

      Great game. I run PBEM games using a free adjudicator called JDip. IMO it is a better game by email then live. In PBEM you not only don’t know what moves are coming you don’t even know who is making deals. Very fun.

      Look here for an example of the maps JDip kicks out.

    • RE: Memoir '44?

      Same game mechanics as the Civil War based game Battle Cry. Quick and fun. The board is nice with the terrain tile overlays allowing you to have a different board each time. And if you got it free that’s a real good price.

    • RE: Any good Civil War games?

      If You can find any of the games by Avalon Hill in the Great Campaigns Of The American Civil War series pick it up and give it a try. Old fashioned AH counter tabletop game. Not too complex. The maps are top notch. Each one comes with multiple scenarios. Here’s a site that shows them all;

      You’re right. Big expenditure. I just get the units I really like. I have to admit the D-Day news was a bit disappointing for me. It boasts it will include the Spitfire which I was hoping was coming with Contested Skies. I was hoping for some new map tiles too. I’m sure the pieces will be great though.

    • RE: Should units be able to be paradropped?

      @grandmastafargus:

      i think that there needs to be a die roll when they are deployed. Just to see if they hit their target. PEACE

      I believe the drop rules are too precise too. I have been mulling over doing this;

      Name a target hex.

      What do you folks think? Good?  Bad? Change suggestions?

    • Paratroopers

      Paratroopers. How do you use them? Drop them early on the objective and try to hold it? Drop them late as a late ditch effort? Use them as assassins to eliminate enemy leaders early to gain the upper hand in iniative rolls?

      So far I have been using them to eliminate leaders or in one case to get enemy machine gunners since they get a double shot every assault phase.

      I am curious about other players thoughts on their uses.
