@Krieghund said in AAZ 1942 (second edition) : rules question (inspired by 'Broken, Busted, or Both'):

      There is still combat.

      Yes. I agree on this.

Still I think this is a bit against the spirit (thematically speaking) of the rules…

      April 27 2021: I edited original posting.
Seems this situation cannot occur with Technology-6: ZMCR.

Again: If anyone runs into situations in which this occurs: please post here. Thanks in advance.

I don’t know about the Balkan Card, but the missing port was probably intended, Axis And Allies 1941 also doesn’t have a port and the Axis And Allies Zombies map is pretty simular to it.

Whether attacking or defending, the benefit from Z-4 Explosives applies only to the units of the power(s) with that technology. It does not apply to the units of an ally.

Very pleased to just read the breaking news:
      https://www.axisandallies.org/p/announcing-axis-and-allies-online/

This is very good news. Curious how some of the specific rules turn out (OOL indeed).
And yes, I hope there will be an add-on for AAZ…

But for now: looking forward to this!
      Thanks for posting, David!

Or: in a previous (test) version of AAZ there was actually a card called ‘Z Rise’.

I think this very card can be used handily for a house rule. I thought about making this card acutally a rather dramatic event.
My idea was (but this is just an idea so all ideas/criticisms are welcome):

The following neutral territories do not have a Z card:

      Chili/Argentina
      Eire (Ireland)
      Afghanistan

Sahara and Himalaya are considered unpasseble territories.

Angola and Mozambique were Portuguese colonies.

So my idea for a house rule was:

If someone draws the ‘Z Rise’ card all truely neutral areas without an own card get a Z.
Still they do not get an IPC value.

But these areas can be entered. These areas are playable. And if you have the ZMCR tech (technology 6) you can move these units. And if you have technology 5 (DNC transports) you can move these units by transport. Well, not the Afghan one of course…

What do people think? Should Mozambique and Angola also be included. Or even Sahara and Himalaya: while players can still not enter these areas these Zs there can be moved (see above, technology 6 and in case of Sahara technology 5 too (yes, Sahara does have a coastline!)).
Maybe this is too harsh for the British player. On the other hand some say game is tilted towards the Allies. So this might actually balance the game a bit.

      All your ideas are welcome.

David, if this must be moved to another section of the forum: just let me know.

So can we rephrase this as:

You may non-combat a Z from an area you have at least one unit in. In this regard an IC counts as a unit.

Well, it’s half of the zombies in the territory, but essentially yes.

Thanks. This was just a typo of mine. I corrected this in my original posting:

Page 15 says you can move out to escape combat.

Striker, thanks for reply. I thought about analogy between submerged submarines and Zs too. Seems the analogy is not 100 % though indeed.

      2023 UPDATE

As we finally played AAZ again we were wondering:

Did more people interprete this rule wrongly?
Namely that you had to destroy ALL Zs that were present in an Z-controlled area?

If I introduce players to AAZ it seems all of them expect this to be the case: that you only get the bonus if ALL Z-units are destroyed.

      Just wondering…

Rule book: see pages 4 and 23…

Since WW1 with standard rules is considered a positional slog, I don’t think that adding zombies to the mix is going to make the game more dynamic. Its going to create an even more stagnated wall of positional battle. Also, territory control is quite different than the other editions so zombies would have to be added into that mix and perhaps you could do whoever has the most units controls?

The unit pallette is also smaller, which means the tech and interaction between the units and zombies would have to be fixed on a unit by unit basis (planes dont attack zombies, for example, because they dont attack anything).

      @thrasher1

I posted this about three years ago. So I thought a ‘BUMP’ was OK to do (just put this topic into the spotlight again).

(If this is not OK just remove this post. No problem)

      So to all:

Please imagine what new Gamemaster Series you had liked to be released by MB/Hasbro. In the 1980s or 1990s. Another WW II game? WW I or WW III?
Medieval warfare with knights and stuff like that?
Or a game set in the future…

Looking forward to read your - creative! - replies.
