    • RE: Sacrifice a Unit and Trigger Zs gambit move and the Z Camouflage Card: must you play?

      @Krieghund ,

      Thanks for fast reply. I expected this to be the case. So if you plan to conduct this SUTZ gambit move to trigger the Zs to hit the defending units of the enemy you actually must hope you will NOT draw this Z Camouflage card?

      Are there more cards that can have an unintented negative effect?

    • Sacrifice a Unit and Trigger Zs gambit move and the Z Camouflage Card: must you play?

      SUTZ gambit move:

      OK, first let me ‘define’ this Sacrifice a Unit and Trigger Zs gambit move:

      By this I mean basically what was described here in this post by @taamvan :

      https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/33797/broken-busted-or-both

      So you move one unit into an enemy occupied area which contains Zs. Then of course combat occurs. You will surely lose your one unit. But Zs were ‘activated’ and then perform their ‘attack’: hitting the attacker at a A (2 out of 6) and the defender at a D (1 out of 6).

      But if you played the Z Camouflage card that turn then:
      “In each territory you attack this turn, Zs do not roll for the first round of that combat.”

      I guess you cannot opt for NOT playing this card during one (or more) attacks made by you in the turn you play this card? So in that case this card will actually ‘hurt’ you.

      See also: https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/33797/broken-busted-or-both/13

      In combination with AA guns (Axis and Allies 1942 Second Edition only!):

      A special case of this instance is covered here: https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/33827/aaz-1942-second-edition-rules-question-inspired-by-broken-busted-or-both . Air unit attacking an area containg an AA gun in Axis and Allies 1942 second edition with AAZ. Even if plane was shot down there is still combat so Zs are still activated and might hit the defender.

    • AAZ with one of these 'older games'?

      I hope this is the correct place to ask this.

      Did anyone try to play one of these older games (as discussed in this forum) with AAZ?

      So say Axis and Allies D-Day (one of my favourites BTW) with AAZ?

    • RE: AAZ FAQ: coming anytime soon?

      @Krieghund ,

      Thanks for reply. Of course I know this topic. But I thought it might be fruitful to compile all these issues that were brought up in that thread and other threads (and places like BoardGameGeek) and divide them into several subjects: combat / production / Z-specific rules / …

      And then hopefully there will be an official AAZ FAQ soon.

    • RE: Help me understand Unit Reference

      Yes. Personally I do not like this. I prefer the standard Axis and Allies rule: you purchase units at the START of your turn. And you place your units produced at the END of your turn.
      This is different in AAZ. And some like this.

    • AAZ FAQ: coming anytime soon?

      Dear all,

      AAZ gave us Axis and Allies with some twists. But also some rule issues. Which is not suprising as there is a non-player ‘faction’ and three-way combat.

      My question is:

      Will there be an official AAZ FAQ coming?

      Maybe someone can start a topic where we can gather all rules issues?

    • RE: AAZ Question: played any other Axis and Allies game with AAZ?

      Slightly off-topic but I thought about the possibility of introducing these Zs to the not-official-but-close-enough-to-GameMaster-Series boardgame of Buck Rogers: Battle for the 25th Century…

    • RE: Rules - Phase 2 Zombies Attack

      @Krieghund and @mosuper ,

      thrasher’s URL service :)

      Krieghund covered this in this thread at BGG:

      https://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/2109774/confusion-about-phase-2-zombies-attack

      My take on this:

      For me it seems rather natural that the hits are (can be) assigned to all units on that very territory. So yes, follow standard rules for multinational (defending) forces.
      Then again: who deceides.
      There I would say indeed: players can disuss. If they cannot agree the ‘owner’ of the area deceides.

    • RE: AAZ: similar games for Axis and Allies?

      @taamvan and @Striker

      Personally I wasn’t fond of the game when it was announced. My response was a bit like: what are they doing now (to Axis and Allies)?

      Still, I must say: the game has its merits. I don’t have any connection with the Z theme itself. But I do like the cards. And the new technologies and so on.
      If you only have some hours to play. No time for a bigger game like Global. Then a game like this can be a nice variation.
      So that’s why I asked: what other game variations COULD work?
      Or even more broadly: what other game variants can you imagine?

      I personally would like to see a kind of Alternative/Fictional World Map. What I called Earth-2. For me that would be very interesting as I always like to figure out new maps.

      I think Axis and Allies with new technologies. Call them: superweapons could work.
      And I even think there can be a market for that. With some nice new units. Maybe some counters/markers too. Yes, I can see this working actually.

    • AAZ: similar games for Axis and Allies?

      To all:

      What do you think? Any chance there will be a - very broadly - speaking ‘similar’ game like AAZ in the Axis and Allies franchise?

      Just some ideas (basically to give you an idea what I mean):

      (1) Axis and Allies SF: Classic/retro-style UFOs. Yep. This has been metioned before by others. Turtledove (novelists) springs into my mind here…

      (2) Axis and Allies: Earth-2: Just Axis and Allies (and thus basically the same teams) on an fictional/hypothetical earth. Think about two Axis powers versus three Allied powers on a completely new map.
      This can then be a rather cheap expansion. As only a new map is needed. Though some new units (for the sake of spice/chrome) can be nice of course…

      (3) Axis and Allies: Alternative Timeline:
      Think: German WunderWaffe, Japanese secret bases, US superweapons, and so on.
      As (2) this can be rather cheap as only new units are needed. And maybe stuff like cards.

      And of course maybe (2) and (3) can be combined!

      Please share your ideas here. I am very curious what you come up with!

    • AAZ Question: played any other Axis and Allies game with AAZ?

      Basically what the title says :)

      Did you play any other A&A boardgame with AAZ?
      If so: which one(s)?
      And were there any issues you ran into?

      EDIT: Corrected a typo…

    • RE: AAZ Rule question: Background fire by Battleships

      @Krieghund ,

      Talking about AA Guns…

      If one plays AAZ1942 can a hit by a Z during the ‘Z attack’ phase (so not regular combat) be applied to an AA gun to ‘satisfy’ this hit?

      So if there are two Zs and I got say 2 infantry and one AA gun… Both Zs score a hit. Can I then remove an infantry and that AA gun instead of two infantry units?

    • RE: AAZ Rule question: Background fire by Battleships

      @Krieghund

      If this issue is settled by the rules as you indicate then I think Z-hitting battleships should be explicitely mentioned. As this is a ‘special case’ then.

      I also think this is all is thematically very right: battleships fire on the area being invaded. So yes, they can hit some Zs…
      AA guns only fire at planes. So not on Zs. Rather straightforward of course…

    • RE: AAZ Rule question: Background fire by Battleships

      @Krieghund said in AAZ Rule question: Background fire by Battleships:

      AAA is the only case.

      Wow. Hadn’t thought about that. But yes, if a rule says ‘units’ does this include stuff like factories, AA guns…
      Thought about this when going through the rules for empty territories and so… but I must admit I hadn’t thought about this one.
      So no, AA die rolls of 6 do not hit Zs… :)

    • RE: AAZ Rule question: Background fire by Battleships

      @Krieghund , thanks for answering this one.

      Is there an instance of a unit rolling a die in combat while any die roll of six will NOT be applied?
      Both in AAZ and AAZ 1942?

      That’s what I expected. Thanks for answering this question.
      Would have made an interesting strategy: conducting strategic bombinb to facilitate a Z-take over…
