    • RE: My Axis & Allies collection

Regarding the French/Chinese expansion for ‘Nova Games Axis and Allies’:

My Nova Games game came with this counter sheet.
      No setup though…

      See: http://web.archive.org/web/20020104163044/http://www.wargamer.com/axisallies/original/nova/nova_description.html

Image of FR/CH counter sheet: http://web.archive.org/web/20020906125332im_/http://wargamer.com/axisallies/images/nova_aa_counters.gif

      EDIT:

      Just adding this:

This is from my defunct Axis and Allies website (see link in this very message):

“Nova planned to release a expansion set for the game. This set would introduce France and China to the game (sounds familiar to World at War players!). The counters were produced, but the actual package was never released! This was because MB took over the game. The counter sheet as pictured on this page actually is a never released French/Chinese counter sheet (both having only halve the amount of units the original powers have).”

If anyone every finds a kind of draft (or demo, whatever) for this French/Chinese expansion… please post info here.

    • Triple A map for AAZ: any updates as current file does not work?

I hope I post this in the right ‘location’.

As the title says: is there any news on the AAZ map for TripleA?
The current file (zip-file) gives an error message. No game is being loaded.

    • Can an Axis and Allies -style US Civil War game actually work?

First of course: if this post should be in another subforum them please move.

      Then secondly:

May this has already been discussed till death. But when I found out about Axis and Allies (early/mid 1990s) I really hoped for an Axis and Allies -like US Civil War game. To be honest I expected MB to release this if they would come up with more GameMaster Series games (OK, so this was a VERY big if).

      But so…

      Can it work?

Or is the Axis and Allies system just not ‘good’ enough for a game covering the American Civil War.

There were infantry units. Cavalry and Artillery. Some navy and some river boats.
Put ‘elite forces’ or ‘veterans’ and generals into the mix and I would say ‘A&A Civil War’ could be a good game.

Any reasons this just did not happen?

Eventually later on my brother found much of the game in the garbage of the downstairs neighbor’s porch, we both eagerly examined the pieces, map and Rules and fell in love with it!

      So…

Later that week I bought the game from Toys R Us and we played it to death for many years since until the newer versions came out years later!!!

… you had a lot of extra pieces then :)

      @witt

I think you can buy Axis and Allies Classic for a fairly reasonble price. Second or third hand of course.

I personally say: get it. Axis and Allies Classic for me is… well, where it all started. But also: a specific time. And on the other hand it is a timeless classic.

      OK, I stop now :)

How did you get Axis and Allies? I guess Denmark in the 1980s was just like The Netherlands… not really having many boardgames around. Unless of course you lived in a big city or student city.

      Early 1994…
Playing Risk with a guy I did know but not that good.
So playing Risk… finishing the game. Discussing it… And then… then I said: “Well, yeah, would be nice if Risk had ships to cross the seas.”

And then… then he said: “Well, Axis and Allies got little ships?”

      Me: What?
He: You want to see this game? Will get it from my room?
      Me: Yes.

      And the rest is history…

Please do understand: this was (just) before the Internet started… so it was not easy to find new games. At that moment I did not live in a big city. So…

As for more TWaW goodness, fellow gamer @Gentlegamer was able to procure a wealth of TWaW file, which he shared with all of us in the thread linked below:

      https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/35569/the-world-at-war-game-files

Yep. I saw these. Great. Thanks, @Gentlegamer .

Does anyone have the First Edition manual and setup sheets?
And differences (if any) between the First Edition and Second Edition of World at War?

I don’t see any map, The World at War Fourth Edition or otherwise, in your post. That said, in the second post of this thread are pictures of the maps for two edition: the top map is from the Second Edition and the bottom map is from the Fourth Edition.

OK, I refered to the two maps linked to at my old page:

      http://web.archive.org/web/20020527112145/http://www.wargamer.com/axisallies/ce/xeno/waw/maps/waw_maps_maps-pbem-help.html

Micheal Roberts created two maps. Using an layout/design very close to the actual second edition World at War map.

One has the IPC values corresponding to the Second Edition of the game. And one features the IPC values of the Third Edition of the game.

So my point was: the layout/design of Micheal Roberts’ Third Edition map does not correspond with the actual (physical) Third Edition map of World at War.

    • RE: Looking for the Xeno Games World at War Map

Thrasher used to have a site that was a main hub of internet information on A&A and its variants, back in the day (Thrasher himself (@thrasher1 ) is a user on this site now, but his old site is now only available on the Wayback Machine).

      Thanks for the kind words.

      Thrasher’s Main site

      Thrasher’s A&A Expansions page

      Thrasher’s World at War page

Thrasher’s World at War Maps and PBEM page (PBEM - Play By EMail, how they did it online, back in the old days)

A very large .gif of the World at War Third Edition map

Regarding the World at War maps:

I own the Second Edition map. This was the more standard map with black border lines.
Then came the Third Edition map with red border lines. I personally never saw this map. Did any of you?

Regarding the old files on my old site:

This page ( http://web.archive.org/web/20020527112145/http://www.wargamer.com/axisallies/ce/xeno/waw/maps/waw_maps_maps-pbem-help.html ) features two maps.

But I * THINK * that Micheal Roberts created this ‘third edition’ map in the style of the second edition map. As both of these maps look the same and are in the ‘second editon style’. So probably he adjusted the Second Edition map to create this version of the Third Edition map As it * IS * not the real third edition map as that one had red lines…

Anyone around in 1990s/2000s can help us out?

Is this World at War Fourth Edition map a mounted map?
The 2005 version of the game…

Also: anyone has a picture of the Third Edition map with the red lines?

This was actually in Axis and Allies Classic (MB / 1980s) so I do not know if I may post this here but:

      Battle for Moscow

      Six german planes
AA gun fired (one hit per attacking airplane)

      Result:

      4 ones = 4 planes hit

My friends and I really played this very often. We saw some epic fights over South America. Even Japan liberating Argentina for Germany. Historically accurate? Nope. But we had LOTS of fun with these house rules.
Please check out more old stuff at my old site. Most of it can be accessed through archive.org .

      @valladares

These screenshots get me VERY nostalgic :)

      ON-TOPIC:

I do not think many people play with the Third Edition rules for Axis and Allies Classic. But we always played (and play) with the Two-Hit Battelship rule. Needs two hits to be sunk. No repair costs. Will automatically repair after combat.

You refer to this set of house rules for Axis and Allies Classic?

      https://web.archive.org/web/20050926034739/http://www.wargamer.com/axisandallies/original/houserules/eaa/eaa_main.html

If so: I compiled these :)
      I hope you enjoy.
This was before we finally got new games like Axis and Allies Europe and Axis and Allies Pacific.

Let me stress I used quite some stuff from this set of house rules:

      https://web.archive.org/web/20050920134547/http://www.wargamer.com/axisandallies/original/houserules/craig/craig.html

So kudos for Craig Bertolucci for creating these.

      @midnight_reaper

Regarding Axis and Allies Europe and Pacific 1940 First Edition:

There are reports about slightly different US sets. So that the Europe and Pacific pieces for the US are not exactly the same shade of green.
Do you know how often this occured?

Regarding A&A Europe / Pacific 1940 Second Edition:

Are the colors of the pieces the same? I only own the First Edition so I cannot compare.

As always: your help is really appreciated!
