@domanmacgee Thanks for your idea, Don.

But such a game (series of games) would be huge. And at the very least you would need new plastic playing pieces for each new era / time period…

    • Legacy Games: could an Axis and Allies Legacy game work?

(If this topic is better located in another subforum then please move.)

      Dear all,

      This posting…

      https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/37609/new-ah-game-perhaps-a-40th-anniversary-legacy-edition

New AH game - perhaps a 40th anniversary Legacy edition?

… introduced me to the concept of ‘Legacy Games’. I must admit this was almost totally new for me. Did some readings about Risk Legacy.

      Now let me ask you:

Could an Legacy Edition of Axis and Allies work?

Of course I would buy it. But I seriously doubt if this could be a good concept for Axis and Allies. It might.

      What are your ideas?
Espcially if you have played some of the Legacy games then please post your views on Axis and Allies Legacy here.

      @abworsham4

That is a lot of money. Yes, in Netherlands the original Axis and Allies and Shogun both were pretty expensive.
And Fortress America? All we could do was look at the small picture at one of the sides of the Axis and Allies box and imagining what this game was and was about?

Remember: these were the pre-Internet years…

    • Globar War Expansions: which are the best? And which do people play most?

First: I haven’t played Global War myself.
      But friends of mine do.

HBG has lots and lots of expansions. So I checked out most of them (maybe even all) for ‘inspiration’.

      So overall:

Which are the ones you like?

@imperious-leader said in Back to the 80s/90s: Why no OFFICIAL expansion pack for Axis and Allies Classic?:

I will have to locate my stash and take a picture. The whole module that included the map was some treatment of the Midway scenario since the game starts in spring 1942

Please do. Looking forward to see your ‘fix’.

      On my To Do List:

Play Axis and Allies Classic both with Gamers Paradise Expansions and with the Enemy at the Horizon…

With all these newer official Axis and Allies games we got the units! :)

What I never understood of this expansion: why include the very same map? Granted. It is bigger. But why not also include some new areas/seazones?

      @imperious-leader

Thanks for reply. You refer to this expansion:

Enemy at the Horizion (by the Black Baron Game Company Inc.)

      https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgameexpansion/9536/enemy-horizon-axis-allies-expansion

      I do own this one.
And indeed my friends and I expected, well, hoped… that MB/Hasbro would release such a relatively small expansion set. Just some additional units (and rules for these new units).

Again: even only includging Escorts and Artillery for each of the five nations would have been great.

      @the-captain

      Thans for reply, The-Captain.

Which units you really had wanted to be part of this - hypthetical - expansion pack for Axis and Allies?

      Regarding MB/Hasbro:

I really do not think the existence of unofficial expansions like the ones from The Gamers was a reason for them not to release an offcial pack.

      Regarding Escorts:

We always played with escorts since we got the plastic playing pieces from Xeno Games (World at War and Europe at War).

We placed (if I can remember correctly) one escort in:

      USSR: Soviet Far East
      Germany: Baltic Sea and Italy
      UK: UK and India
      Japan: Japan and Philipines
      USA: Westcoast and Eastcoast

    • Back to the 80s/90s: Why no OFFICIAL expansion pack for Axis and Allies Classic?

(First, if this is to be preferred to be listed under 'Axis and Allies Classic then please move this topic.)

      Dear all,

When I started playing (and enjoying Axis and Allies) in the mid-1990s me and m friends often dreamed about an Expansion Pack for Axis And Allies (the Classic game).

Remember, this was long before Axis and Allies Europe finally came in 1999/2000.

So there you are in the 1980s/1990s. Really enjoying this came but also dreaming and wanting: ‘more’.

I always wondered why MB/Hasbro never came up with an expansion pack. So my questions for you are:

      • Why you think MB or Hasbro never released such an A&A expanson pack?

      • What you (realistically) had hoped to see being included in such a package?

For now I will answer the second question. And I really hope many of you will share their ideas and hopes.

What I realistically hoped for was a small expansion pack including:

      • Artillery for each of the five nations. Probably just a few. Say 5 pieces.
      • Escorts or Destroyers for each nation. Also just a few. Say maybe three or four at most.

And maybe, just maybe some special infantry units for the five nations. The usual suspects so:

      • US marines
      • UK commandos
      • USSR partisans
      • Japanese special ‘banzai’ forces
      • German SS infantry

I personally think such a rather cheap expansion pack could have been a success in the 1980s or 1990s.
But what do you think? What new units you dreamt of being included in Axis and Allies back then?

EDIT: I changed the title of the topic from:

Back to the 80s/90s: An expansion pack for Axis and Allies Classic?

      to:

Back to the 80s/90s: Why no OFFICIAL expansion pack for Axis and Allies Classic?

To stress the fact that me and my friends wondered why MB/Hasrbro never came with an official expansion pack for Axis and Allies. Besides all the non-official ones like the ones from Xeno Games, Gamers Paradise and so on…

Well, yeah… when you are young an Axis and Allies (or Shogun or other Gamemaster game) is actually pretty expensive…

Again: I do not know if the ‘supplement’ to the Axis and Allies Europe (original) rules was ever included in print in the box of AAE.

If someone has this document in paper: a photo would be nice :)

      EDIT: Just fixed a typo

@kaleu said in My Axis & Allies collection:

I have a separate ‘Rules Clarifications’ leaflet that was issued some time after the Milton Bradley version itself. It is signed “General M. Bradley, Supeme GameMaster”. I’m not sure how rare it is.

This was included in my Axis and Allies Classic game box.
As for as I know these rules clarifications were NOT included in the Dutch rules.

BTW: Axis and Allies Europe (original one) also had such a document. You can see it here:

      https://www.axisandallies.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Axis-Allies-Europe-1999-Update.pdf

I never saw this included in an Axis and Allies Europe (original version) game box. Did any of you?

I would surely by an ‘Axis and Allies in Space’ game. And many here I guess.

If you have any ideas for this: please share (if you want).

Also: if someone ever finds a game that can be described as ‘A&A in Outerspace’ please share here.

@thrasher1 I got that game, not a fan. It needs to be just like AA…but in SPACE

Would more people be willing to play a kind of Axis and Allies in Space?
Any games that qualify? Apart from the Buck Rogers game I mentioned.

      https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/assets/uploads/files/1623432330073-a-amp-a-mbg-fransk.jpg

      Regarding a Dutch version.

There were Axis and Allies (Classic) games that included a Dutch version of the rule.
But as far as I know the box was the same.
      A sticker? Maybe…
