    • Axis and Allies Online: good news!

      Very pleased to just read the breaking news:
      https://www.axisandallies.org/p/announcing-axis-and-allies-online/

      This is very good news. Curious how some of the specific rules turn out (OOL indeed).
      And yes, I hope there will be an add-on for AAZ…

      But for now: looking forward to this!
      Thanks for posting, David!

      BTW: Brief article about AAOL at TechRatpor:

      Well, yeah… when you are young an Axis and Allies (or Shogun or other Gamemaster game) is actually pretty expensive…

      Yes. I have seen copies like these: green Germans and gray Americans.

    • AAZ Rule Question: getting the 1 infantry bonus

      This is a question regaring receiving the 1 infantry bonus for liberating a Z-held territory.

      This is how we interpreted this rule:

      If you cleared a territory of ALL Zs then you receive a free infantry on that specific territory.

      Now, it seems we interpretated this rule wrong. See: https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/32350/axis-allies-and-zombies-q-a

      Is it really the case that:

      You can attack a Z-held territory. Have one round of combat (of course the Z will first ‘attack’ and you must remove a casualty immediatelly). Then after that call off the attack and - presuming you got one surving land unit - liberate/conquer the territory and gain that additional free infantry while there are still Zs present in this very area. ?

      In general: in these six games who won most of the time?
      Seen any ‘extreme’ effects of the Z-cards? Like tipping the balance of a game or moving a piece of the action to say South America (neutrals!) or ‘remote’ areas?

      (4) in a more random game, balance is being derived not from pawn v. pawn type “analog/concrete” interactions, but from Nuke v. Cthulu “digital/abstract” interactions.

      taamvan, can you please rephrashe (4) ?

      PART II

      Question (8) continued…

      (8) Categories / Setting / Period

      © SCIENCE FICTION / SPACE:

      • Earth vs. Other Planets
      • Battle of Alien Races

      I defenitely would have voted for Earth vs. Other Planets here. Personally I cannot image the other option to be very interesting/attractive for most players. Except when there was a very interesting backstory/setting maybe…

      (D) FANTASY:

      • King Arthur
      • Dragons, …
      • Road Warrior, Future Earth

      This would be an easy one: I would surely vote for the Road Warrior option. A near future (maybe post-apocalyptic) game could be very interesting? Clans vs. each other? Survivalists vs. invaders? Citizens vs. the state?

      (9) Chose one category

      This is a hard one… But I think I would have voted for ‘historical’ here.

      To all: please tell us what you should have voted back in the 1980s or early 1990s. Or what you would vote for now.

      @655321

      ZIBRA and Chainsaw seem to be the ‘best’ technologies, yes. Especially ZIBRA: everyone got some infantry units. ‘Richer’ countries will have some armor here and there. But please mind that the ‘artillery-technology’ Z-4 Explosives gives you stronger artillery units for the whole of the combat. Chainsaw gives you only one extra attack. As this is before normal combat these Zs that were hit do not take part in the actual combat that follows.
      Personally I like that these technologies differ a bit on details like this. Then again: it might turn out that some of the technologies are really too strong and thus unbalancing the game of AAZ.

      @valladares

      These screenshots get me VERY nostalgic :)

      ON-TOPIC:

      I do not think many people play with the Third Edition rules for Axis and Allies Classic. But we always played (and play) with the Two-Hit Battelship rule. Needs two hits to be sunk. No repair costs. Will automatically repair after combat.

    • RE: Game 192; Whoops Dave Does it Again

      @taamvan said in Game 192; Whoops Dave Does it Again:

      For game 192, I made Dave play the Axis. We agreed that they need a bid to gain the upper hand before the Allied economy comes to bear, so we decided to put 1 extra infantry on Japan, 1 on Manchuria, and 1 on France.

      I think technically this is not a bid but an adjusted setup :)
      But thanks for posting!

      Question: how did you come to deceide on the location of these three ‘extra’ Axis units?
      Is a typical bid around 9 IPCs?

    • RE: Extended Axis and Allies rules 1999

      @guillermo

      You refer to this set of house rules for Axis and Allies Classic?

      https://web.archive.org/web/20050926034739/http://www.wargamer.com/axisandallies/original/houserules/eaa/eaa_main.html

      If so: I compiled these :)
      I hope you enjoy.
      This was before we finally got new games like Axis and Allies Europe and Axis and Allies Pacific.

      Let me stress I used quite some stuff from this set of house rules:

      https://web.archive.org/web/20050920134547/http://www.wargamer.com/axisandallies/original/houserules/craig/craig.html

      So kudos for Craig Bertolucci for creating these.
