If the US goes into the pacific, then the Germans can take and hold london, so they should do this to alleviate pressure on the Italians emanating from African IC’s (most games i play the British player builds an IC in Egypt). Also, I always move 2 German fighters to Southern Italy so to prevent the British from destroying both parts of the Italian navy. The 2 german ones, and the 1 italian one make it so that the British fleet is decimated no matter which side they attack.

    • RE: Japanese Strategy

If the game is gonna last more than 5 turns, and the Japanese want to hold onto their asia holdings, they gotta take out at least one of the 3 allies, the Chinese, the Ruskies, or the English. If you sit back and try to hold on to your territory with out attacking, you will start to lose it turn 5. Plus, if you use your airforce, you can usually take out the chicoms with the units you start with, and in that way you are putting those units to use, where they are rusting doing nothing if you sit back and play defensive.

it uses a mathematical algorith to determine dice roles which prevents you from rolling 18 4’s with your 20 tanks.

If the US goes into the Pacific, the Germans have to take london. If not, they better start trucking to moscow.

I just want to say, that in real life in 1944 the US produced 3x more planes than all other world powers combined. If you make it historical, you have to give the US an income of 200/turn. The idea is that it be an entertaining game and that it jog your memory of history class.

    • RE: India - What to do with it?

well I Will say this, taking the DEI, Defending the DEI, defending asia holdings (taking out india if strategically possible) and denying the US any decisive engagements should be the goals of Japan in that order. However, this does not often happen as I always play as the Germans and Italians, and the Americans has to come to the liberation of the UK or Africa or face Russia getting knocked out. As such, the US rarely has enough to prevent the Japanese from rampaging.

I always take india J3, with 6 trans, 6 inf, 6 art, and every single plane  in in IJA The British have had the opportunity to build a max of 10 inf. With the power of the Japanese airforce, I win every time, and that is before the Aussies can do anything. The US is always occupied taking back London, so there is very litttle they can do other than annoy, they cant do any serious damage.

    • RE: Building IC on foreign soil

I am a firm believer that unless the rules explicitly prevent it, it is fair game. Rules were meant to make the game balanced and fun, not to be a constitution. The Japanese start with that territory, so they can build an IC there if they want. The rule is designed to prevent the Germans from upgrading London, and holding it indefinately, to keep Japan from building an IC in Malaya, and to keep the US from building on in Norway or Korea. IMHO The only reason the chinese symbol is on those territories is to indicate range of movement

    • RE: UK merger income in G40

But with the Split it is as if Japan actually means something, in that all the resources of the British in that theatre are devoted to fighting Japan, not Germany, so the old Idea that expansion for Japan meant less for the Germans to worry about is still true, but at the beginning of the game, the germans are gleaning the benefits of japans being at war, and not fighting the British IPCS. Additionally, if the british are combined, then all the british would do every UK1 is build a minor IC in Egypt, and 10 infantry in UK to show they mean to resist the Germans. At this point the European axis is screwed both ways. The idea of the European strategy is that the British must either choose to defend Africa, or defend England, but they are supposed to lack the money to do both simultaneously. By combining the British can just forget the Pacific, they’ll probably lose it anyway, and then screw the Germans and Italians hardcore.

Horrible Idea. I have not had a chance to use the newest Alpha+2 rules, but in the other versions, barring some extraordinary dice rolling by the Germans, the US simply ignores the Japanese, builds 8 inf for the Wst US 3 or 4 times, and concentrates all its other efforts in Europe. In every game I have played, the Germans take London, and 2 turns later, the US either takes it back, or takes Rome for good. Either case is game over for the Germans. To increase UK money means even harder time for the Germans.
