    • Carrier went in with attack force…

      Hey all,

      Have a question.

      I attacked with a naval force the japanese and brought the carrier with the force.

      When can I attribute “hits” to transports and the carriers. Is it the last thing that can soak up hits?

      I can see with transports not taking the hits (thought 50th prevented that) but what about the carrier?

    • RE: Aleutian Islands crossing

      @leddux:

      Just to make sure I understand…
      You still need a transport to go from the Aleutians to mainland Alaska?

      Yes you do. They are islands.  Just like you need a transport from Cylon to India (Calcutta).

      It is the same distance with even more favorable weather.
      @!ACHTUNG!:

      I don’t think so

      What is your reasoning for your thought?  Besides what is perceived as closeness due to the way the map was made.

      Plus during this time, 1940 to 1945, there were even less roads and infrastructure available.  Much less than other areas of the world.  In fact we are still limited on infrastructure. Bridge to Nowhere that was brought up in the last presidential election ring any bells?  People do not understand just how remote it is up here.

      In fact all the cities going towards the Aleutian Islands on the Aleutian Peninsula still do not have roads connecting them today.  It was even worse in 1940.

      In fact it takes the Alaska Marine Highway a three week turn just to get out to Unalaska (which is close to Dutch Harbor which was the only real base on the ALeutians during WWII).  THis is in modern day where ships travel about 3 to 5 knots faster at cruise speed.

    • RE: Statement from Larry Harris in regards to AAP40

      @Brain:

      I’ve got no problems with Larry as his game design is superb. And I can see that Krieghund really cares. That said, typos for a product that you are putting out to market however is inexcusable, especially when they are on the box which is the first thing you are going to see. As far as the pieces go, c’mon how much more could it cost to give us a few more plastic pieces. If they just sold these pieces seperately, then there probably wouldn’t be such a public outcry.

      While they do suck I have not had a single game yet that has not had any typos or errata.

      ALthough I am not liking the set up having to have an errata.

    • RE: Non-Aggresion Treaty

      I like the idea of there being a reason for Japan not attacking Russia and vise versa.

      Then again it also would be fun to allow it.

      I think there definitely needs to be a time slot.  Maybe a punishment if it is done before turn 5 or something.  Neither one wanted to open up another front in real life but perhaps might of….

    • RE: Aleutian Islands crossing

      @spectre_04:

      I don’t know that I completely agree, it is an Island, but why shouldn’t it have land bridging abilities much like canals seen in other AA variants?

      Most of them are a lot farther apart than you’d think. Take it from some one who lives in Alaska.

      Plus besides being far apart they are volcanic islands so very steep in most places.  So getting across is more difficult than say other islands people are familiar with.  I think they are even steeper are more forbidding than the Hawaiian Islands.

    • RE: Compared to AA 50

      @Vareel:

      @MaherC:

      printing IL’s map is costly, kinkos quoted me $159

      Wow, i got a 4x2 of his 42 map printed out laminated and everything for 60 from a local sign store, they quoted me 90 for the native size of the aa50 map.

      I found that a quote from Kinko’s is worthless.  You can ask the same shop two different times and they will give you three different answers.

    • RE: Changes to gameplay when Europe40 arrives

      Well for one I do not think Russia would be sending troops into China.  I bet there would be a political situation that would prevent it.

      Just like if forces land in Russia that are fighting against Japan.  They probably would be interned or something of the like.

      It will be interesting though.

    • RE: Why plane not on island can't scramble?

      @Uncle_Joe:

      on a related note, I certanly hope the UK is one territory in Europe 1940. So they can scramble to protect it just as japan does

      That would mean that Britain could only touch one sea zone (unless they want to make an exception rule) and would almost completely rule out any possibility of a German naval attack or Sea Lion attack.

      It would probably make it too easy to build up and invasion force to clobber Germany since the US can just stack up planes in England and they can defend the entire Brit fleet as well.

      Not sure I’d like that…

      I would have to agree.

    • RE: China too weak

      @Butcher:

      China is plenty strong enough to serve it’s purpose. It can have infantry pop up anywhere, so Japan must cover every front. Also, combining their infantry and Flying Tigers with British units in Yunnan creates a powerful defensive stack.

      So do the infantry have the ability to pop up where Japan took over a territory but do not have a troop garrisoned there?

    • RE: Getting extra pieces?

      @Imperious:

      I’ve added you to the list for the corrected battle strips. Those should starting getting sent out in February, when we expect to receive the corrected ones.

      As for the bombers and mechanized infantry, unfortunately you did receive the correct number of those pieces and as such I’m not able to send any more out. We are letting the A&A team know that a lot of customers are frustrated by the smaller amounts, and may be able to get extras of those to send out in the future.

      Thanks,

    • RE: Getting extra pieces?

      I just emailed them as well.

      While I do not like the card board components I can also live with them.

      I do not mind the no money either.

      But to have incorrect information on the set up boards and battle strip is just crazy.  Poor quality control.

    • RE: Russian territories

      Under Political Situation it says Soviet Union and Japan are in a non-aggression treaty so neither can enter each other territories.

      Hopefully when the Europe side comes out this will be changed. Always fun to explore the different options.
