    • RE: Monroe doctrine!

Looking at the cards for the US.
      Monroe Doctrine
The USA may declare war on any major power that declares war on/Attacks any zone in the Western Hemisphere. (N. America or S. America inclusive of Islands.)

      Looking at Neutral card:
      Monroe Doctrine
An attack by any Nation anywhere in North or South America violates the Monroe Doctrine and allows the US to declare war on the Attacker.

      Definition of declaring war:
Declaring War: Declaring war is initiating war, meaning that the player declaring it is starting the war. Players may sometimes declare war in response to being Attacked but this is not technically a declaration of war per the rules as war was already declared by the Attacker.

So while a nation can declare war at any point even during another players turn, I am interpreting for the Monroe Doctrine to end up applying some one has to actually attack a country in N/S America. From reading those three things it seems to me that it does require the Soviets to land a piece to declare war/attack.

Which means USSR would have to launch by July 36 to even reach a territory in S. America roughly using movement rates. In addition to using up its entire starting capital Jan 36 to place a transport.

Then again by using the same rules on the nation sheets if the Soviet Union initiates War with a nation known to be protected under the Monroe Doctrine it is in effect initiating war with the US knowing it will force them to declare war on the Soviet Union.

Which the Sleeping Bear rule on Soviet sheet means they do not get go to full production…since they initiated the whole series of events knowing what treaties where in place.  On top of that it says the US MAY declare war. Not that it has to. I am not sure it would be in the best interest of the US to allow USSR getting into full production since it is now a hostile player to US interest. At least that is how I would play it.

So even if I was wrong and USSR could just say I declare war on Uruguay.  The earliest they could attack anyways is Jan 39 meaning the earliest the US income increase would be July 39 where they could use the IPCs for equipment after collecting it at the end of Jan 36.

Definitely a rule I wouldnt allow in a two player game. Might start being fun in a three or five player game though.

As a US player Id wait to declare the counter war and look at western USSR and staging base potential for the eventual clase with Japan.

Of course I havent played the game yet just putting armies together and reading the rules a few times through.

EDITED to get rid of the question marks replacing quotation marks. Have to remember those dont seem to translate…

      @sjelso:

Here is what I did with magnets (some videos).  Had my board printed on steel.  Has worked well.  I think I will might do flags instead of the chips/tokens.  I kinda went overboard but once I began…well…

It makes playing easier, no chips to deal with.

That exactly what I ended up doing for my aircraft. With the longer magnets.

Yea thats what I have done with my aircraft but then your troops might have enough attraction to each other to cause issues.

Got FMG/INWGU stands and did that to most of my aircraft for all my A&A games. As well as carriers put two inside them. I did have a few issues with some of HBG airplanes and their “landing gear” and not lining up on a carrier how I would like them to.

    • HBG Markers Magnetized, troops with Washers…what think?

I saw General Hand Grenades videos of troops being glued to the markers. I like that but same breath don’t….so thought about this idea.

Washer hot glued to the bottom of troops/calvary. (Side bonus gives them even more stability and weight to prevent possible tipping over if not on the marker.)

Then a hole drilled in bottom of the marker big enough for the size magnet you have. (I have a crap load of magnets left over from my days of micro armor when I was magnetizing the turrets so they would spin and yet stay on the tank. (With benefit of showing a tank wreck by separating it and having it to the side of the wreck.)

I wish could find thinner washers but also don’t want to increase cost to horrendous heights.

It pained me to not drill exactly into the center of the markers but since the washers have no center needed to drill slightly to the side so the troop would be in the middle of the marker.

To lift just the troop off the marker without lifting the marker just slightly press down then tip the troop over and comes right up. (2nd Marine marker drilled all the way through on accident and it is attracted more so takes a tad more to separate them.)

I am contemplating painting the troops bases and the size of the markers. For example The US Marine divisions marker I think will paint Red as well as a few of the Marine white markers (or wait for US Marine markers to get back into stock) to represent the Elite Marines which technically could be a max total of 36 but don’t think that would ever happen.

The militia troops I think I am at 98% sure will paint the bases of them yellow just for easier identification.

The airborne think will paint the the airborne emblem on the base of the allied troops and not the whole base. For the Axis nations that dont have that emblem might just paint the general shape of it…or a sticker printed out…or not 100% sure.

Calvary…I am leaning to doing grey for the bases of the piece. Then the markers do the side as well grey. As purchased the US Calvary division markers and German Calvary markers…

I shared an album on icloud that all should be able to look at as didn’t want to mess with trying to size the photos…call me lazy…or wanting to spend my time on doing stupid magnetizing and drilling. :O)

    • RE: 1936 Base Set First Impressions?

I ended up with the base sets (still can’t figure out how missed the preorders on these as been doing the preorders since 2013.) and happy with them.

Industrial complexes:  happy enough with them that it’s convinced me to upgrade my GW 36’ from the tokens to these. Possibly upgrade some of the regular A&A 40 games as well.

      Mountain: great sculp!!!

Partisian: I am not to sure what’s on the head…looks like might be a turban…but no…maybe special forces night vision goggles…but WWII…maybe kill two birds one stone and will be used in GW 2025…  So happy to have a different sculpt but not my most favorite. Possibly even meh on getting more (but I’ll probably will still purchase knowing me)

Milita: Nice basic guy. Good decent sculpt. Very easily identified from a infantry unit on board. Although I am considering still painting the round base yellow as well as throwing a washer on bottom of him and magnet inside the Milita chip… still working it out.

Commander: Like him. Very Patton like stance. Or at least how imagined. Hope for more and rules for commanders in 36’. Always have a use for commanders in Struggle for Europe and Asia WWII.

Anti-Aircraft Gun: basically identical to A&A grey generic AA gun. I like but since have A&A 40 2nd ed AA guns not sure will grab more. Although these are much more compact which might be a need since I have the 4x6 foot map.

Costal Gun: I like this more than I thought I would. It won’t be immediately but plan to upgrade to these from my custom creation.

TBD: I do like the detail if one looks close at it. Like how can’t confuse it with anything else. Don’t like have so many now and can’t be built (although some nations start up from 36’ don’t have them but do have them in 39’.  So as a player we can’t buy them but the different set up does allow them so as a player it’s not possible they o duplicate the start up of 39’ if even wanted to. )

Costal Sub:  meh. Like having them but could of just as easily not got them. As will either still place something under it or buy the Costal marker from HBG. (Have a butt ton of bases 1/2” by 3/4” wooded bases 1/8” thick might paint up as original game got them for I do t play any more.)

Overall I am happy with me grabbing one of each color. Would of grabbed more but already purchased stuff the week before. Plus only one black available and miss not able on o get a “blond” for FEC. Wish I had not grabbed a bunch of TBD the week before the Base Sets became available. Probably list some of the extras later.

Italian sets from INWTGU are great!  Very happy with them. Only thing not happy about is have like 10 BBs and CVs now. All them would never get to the table. But only way to get the number of tanks I wanted.

Also I play tons of 18XX games and found poker chips just make income tracking so much better than paper money. Highly recommend the IPC chip set. They are high quality. Not exactly cheap either but we’ll worth it. Grabbed two sets of each and extra 10 “1’s”. Giving me 60 “1’s”, 30 “5’s”, 20 “10’s”, and 10 “25’s”.  Can tell when they had them manufactured they went the full month as one side isn’t always matching if flipped over. Ligned up is what I mean. Usually cheaper sets they could be twisted or turned just slightly. As well as the writing on ththe side of the chips.

Plus INWTGU has excellent customer service. Although I never had any issues with FMG either but think most my dealings with them was before they attempted to put that Singapore game out. Which have a sneaky suspicion started the trouble.

    • RE: [1936] New player quick index project.

This game is the exact reason I purchased a table that can be covered up to “store” a game like this.

This game wasn’t created yet but it’s exactly what I bought the table for originally to have a place to keep a game set up.

Then it’s a normal dinner table during the week.

Concur. The game from reading is awesome and watching g folks on YouTube. My first foray on it should be this upcoming weekend or so. (Have to finish some door hanging and remodeling first.)

I have a few questions that I am compiling. I have things I think I can assume but will look for clarification on what others think. Minor things.

    • RE: Metal Flight Stands - Status update - Jan 21, 2018 - IN STOCK

I have now received 110 of these stands and can say they are awesome!

Grabbed some Italians as well liked them so much….

Just made another order for a tad more Italians to flesh out my army and ordered the IPC poker chips. Have custom poker chips made by Game Knight but these IPC chips well feel right at home playing Global War 36’ or any Axis & Allies game.

Especially since my nine year old son is interested in the games.

Thank you I Will Never Grow Up!

Yea nothing special about my post….

I did just watch the 4 hour long video of HBG doing a play test and potential changes or adjustments to 36’. Interesting.

Little bummed the map is being printed differently as literally just bought one a few days ago.

I did Silver Patron but didn’t do it until January….Some how I missed the 2016 drive for 2017.  Think I still get a badge though from reading the support drive info.

Might jump up to Gold level Patron for 2018.  I do $10 a month to BGG I’d easily do $5 a month for here if able to set that up…

      Thanks!

Ive been preordering their sets since 2012.  Have WAY more than the suggested amount for some categories.  Was just making sure the numbers listed were realistic and not under valued. Contemplating selling some of the overkill of troops that I have……

    • Global 36/39 Recommended Pieces Numbers

      Hey all,

Whats the thoughts of the recommended number of pieces numbers?  People that have played do they find that they have run out of units or not.

Just curious if I should get more than the recommended number or not.

I also had done a lot of pre-orders of sets and I have way more numbers than the recommended numbers so was thinking about letting some of them go with the 39’ Global Map I have.

    • RE: 1939 Map

      Love the map!!!

I was a little hesitant on having all the “roundels” but I like how with the revised map you made the capital roundel normal then all the other territories for that nation subdued or partially transparent.  It made it not so “busy” looking.

Very nice!  Cant wait to pick up the 34/36/39 map this year!

Plus highly interested in the little expansion packs you have coming out.
