    • Specialist Infantry on the build charts..

      Hi all,

      So looking over the nations again for the 42nd time I saw something I haven’t before.

      Specialist Infantry header has a *Build Limit: 2 per turn.

      I couldn’t find any troop with a * next to it so assuming it applies to all the troops in the Specialist table.

      At first I took it to mean only two troops from the various classes can be built. Then I questioned that doesn’t make sense as some of them have a limit built into the troop notes like SNFL Marine or US Elite Marine is limited to two per turn. It wouldn’t have that duplication if only able to build two troops from the table.

      Which leaves only two different type of troops from the table can be built in any one turn.

      So no building a Airborne, Marine, Moutain Infantry, and Elite Marine in the same turn……have to pick only two types to build.

      Example: US wants to build 2 Elite Marines, 4 Marines, and 1 Moutain Infantry. But it can’t because it can only build two of the three types.

      Or is it truly saying only 2 of each type of troop can be made…forget the ones that have specific limits for the troop type. (British Colonial troops limited to 1 per turn).

      Everyone agree that’s what it means or is it a possible hold over “cut and paste” error that just managed to get transferred to every nation.

    • HBG Factories, TBD…looking for costal Subs and costal guns.

      Hi all,

      I have:
      HBG GW 36 Base Pieces
      2 Major Factories
      2 Minor Factories
      1 Factory
      3 TBD
      in Black, OD, Tan, Pumpkin Orange, Italian Brown, Russian Brown, and French.
      56 Pieces

      Looking for:
      HBG GW 36 Base Pieces
      3 Costal Submarines
      2 Costal Artillery Guns
      in Black, OD, Tan, Pumpkin Orange, Italian Brown, Russian Brown, and French.
      35 Pieces

      The above 8 pieces in each color (56 total) for return 5 in each color (35 total) with each paying the shipping of the units to each other.

      Id hate to purchase costal subs and costal guns in each color available then have to many of those too. LOL

    • RE: Union jack round marker

      @Locke888:

      where can I get these? HBG is out.

      They seem to be back in stock as of today!  Of course right after I purchased the large $79 set to get them. LOL

      I figured using them and French Flag Roundels would be a good “Colonial Troop” Marker for GW 36’.

      @Rank:

      Thanks the northman!
      As for pieces counts that kinda depends on the game. Often we have enough at 9 or 10 units. Though sometimes we need more until the stacks attack. Especially for German and Russian ground units.
      Special infantry depends on the strategies but most I saw was 10ish marine infantry for either Japan or US if they are spamming the islands and shipping reinforcement.  4 usually more than enough for the rest otherwise. Mountain troops are a bit more variable. Depending upon placement by enemy, area of stacks etc. 6 is usually plenty or too many.

      Japanese pieces.
      We are okish with 5 each of light tanks, light carriers, motorized, med bombers, rarely get heavy bombers. Oob usually ok for most of Japan otherwise I believe.

      Oh mountain infantry was one I was a little concerned about.  Largely have 6 for each nation. Five purchased as a group and one added from doing the GW 36 set that was offered.  I do have a about 12 white/neutral ones. So thinking the rare times (hopefully rare) that they run out using one of them to signify the count. If it become regular either paint one or two of them up or grab another set of 5 for each country.

      I do I am finding have a bunch extra Torpedo Boat Destroyers.  Think I might sell some of them off….or something.  Think off hand with out looking to confirm have 7 of each of those. Where really only needed one or two for most nations.

      @EBard:

      I’m currently painting my set, once done I plan to take photos of all the pieces and then create some little booklets (maybe index card sized?) for players to reference. Each page of the booklet will include small pictures of each nation’s copy of the unit plus its stats. I’m hoping to theme the booklets to look like those Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) recognition manuals.

      Love this idea!

      Just watched your newest video upload. Nice ideas!

      Me I just transferred “sunk” money from Europa board games to HBG miniatures. :-). In fact have another $500 coming for a few more sold. As soon as know everything is okay and delivered I plan to grab the last large sum of stuff I THINK I need for the game.

      Of course now wondering if some of the minis need more than 9 to 10 of each…even some of the Japanese pieces have a few sculpts that only number 4.

      Well my first copy of it was not damaged.

      The second two definitely were. I should check if the one I gave away at christmas was damaged too.

      @Chris_Henry:

      Very good point Hand Grenade. I forget that others may not realize or catch on right away. Of course I know, I’ve invested a lot of time and money to it!

      I just meant that either way you have a key, right? People won’t know what each color means either. My only question was to have a key of either the color painted, or a silhouette of the unit. Was just seeing if I could save you the paint jobs  :-)

      I plan to have a label inside the lid of the 7300 Plano boxes. Labeling what is in each compartment with a photo of one of the units. Plus the stats for said units for reference.

      @GeneralHandGrenade:

      I had given that a lot of thought because I was using different sculpts for each. The thing is you would have no problem identifying your own pieces because you built the game. The other people who come over to play a game with you would have a very difficult time when you consider how many different types of pieces of all kinds on the board. It is much easier to differentiate them if you colour the bases or use the various chips like I do;
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkhMuAEsi70&t=11s

      You did a great job, thenorthman.

      Thanks!

      Yea I plan to play with some folks in Alaska. If not immediately and quickly identified some mistakes might be made. Plus I am planning in also using the HBG markers but might consider not using them later if the troops are easily identified by all.  I also want them identifiable from a distance.  No accidentally moving of militia or mistaking a mountain infantry and need to abort an attack……

      Plus it is fun to an extent doing them up. :O)

    • RE: Country colored Industrial Complexes or generic?

      @GeneralHandGrenade:

      @thenorthman:

      I believe a starting set up requires….

      17 Minor Factories

      24 Major Factories

      It’s easy to see how many factories are in the opening setup. What I need to know is how many you need throughout the game. It will take a number of games to determine that. If anyone has a good estimate please let me know.

      Sorry wasnt replying to you. Someone asked earlier the starting.

      But I bet you having 10 of major and 15 extra minors would probably be enough. That probably even an overkill.

      As to my original post I think for now I’ll stick with the markers and if I do up grade to the complexes it will probably be just white.

      That way they don’t get drowned out with the military units.

    • Troops and easy identification painting the bases…

      Hi all,

      I am painting the bases of my troops for easy identifications while on the board.

      When available I am also grabbing specific markers made by HBG of Historic divisions. Example the US Calvary Chip being used in the example picture. Then SNLF divisions, and the different German units. The sides of these chips also getting the specific type of troops color.

      Regular Infantry I was not going to paint up…

      For Calvary I am painting a Spruce Green

      Airborne units a light Blue

      Milita a yellow

      Marines a Red (Even the dark green for the US, the Complete Dark Green without Red will be the elite Marines I am thinking…)

      Special Forces units (yes not a need or actual rules for them yet but plan on something) I have to decide on a color. Leaning towards a maroon or maybe even a purple…

      Partisans…have to figure a color…as already started making marines red…(Any suggestions?)

      Mountain Infantry are a gold base.  (Not sure why I picked them…Gold in them darn hills… perhaps)

      Commanders (Only have one for each nations so far and no rules so don’t have to decide yet.)

      That is pretty much the only country that does surrender its IPC’s though right?  I swear I saw that no major powers surrender their IPC’s in the FAQ threads.

      @Munck:

      I bought the ‘generic’ ones:
      http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-Factory-Marker-Acrylic-x5_p_809.html

      To me, they are perfect. I do not want real buildings (coloured or otherwise), the board is crowded enough as it it.

      I have those. Just got some of the industries in the Global War Sets for each country and was contemplating going with them too….since they are not really to much larger.

    • Country colored Industrial Complexes or generic?

      Not a rules questions just a preference…

      What do you prefer? Generic white industrial complexes or country specific?

      Right now I am leaning towards white generic ones.  Easier to spot. Just curious what other prefer.

      @thenorthman:

      Was that just a personal thing or was that in one of the expansions?  AM I just being blind? Also saw it has a limit of one per turn.  SO sounds like something from the game but just making sure….

      They originated from the Sealion expansion.

      Ahhh, I didn’t even think to check that!  Perfect!

      I noticed on the sheets that FALLSCHIRMJÄGER was listed as a separately entry right above Airborne.  With higher defense and attack values.

    • Infantry, Motorized Infantry….Artillery...pairing...

      Okay read the rules a couple times as well as nation abilities….just making sure I have this correct.

      Infantry can Pair with artillery on a 1:1 Basis.Awesome…

      Motorized Infantry can tow artillery…Awesome…

      Artillery can NOT pair with Motorized Infantry for them to get the bonus.  Just Infantry Class units can pair with artillery.

      SO that means it can pair with ANY Infantry Class (pg 54) unit then not just Infantry? Infantry, Marine, Mountain, Airborne, and Militia (in the rare case a militia ends up able to attack)?

      Except Calvary CAN pair with artillery like Infantry despite being a armored class type unit.

      Motorized Infantry and artillery do not pair with in terms of attack, just moving the artillery piece, since Motorized Infantry is now know as a armored class unit after upgrading.

      Mechanized Infantry can NOT pull artillery either, right?

      Like how the system kind of makes you buy a variety of units to make the bonuses work if I am correct in my assumptions.
